My sincere condolences to the family and friends of LCpl. James Gluff. I am forever grateful for your service to our Nation and for the defense of our freedom.
It was an honor to stand with the GA and TN PGR for this Fallen Hero today. |

| School Children with a "Thank You" sign. An elderly lady on one crutch with her hand on her heart. Hundreds of Townspeople by the side of the road with flags and banners. Fire Departments with large flags out. A Marine holding the young son's new Teddy Bear while taking care of James' widow. A Marine rendering TAPS in a respectful manner. A new ride captain breaking down in tears at the end of a remarkable first leadership mission. Caring people everywhere offering their support. Truckers stopping their rigs GOING THE OTHER WAY out of respect. I was speechless at the outpouring of emotions for this young hero who gave his all for our country. I got carried away today and made 184 photos of what was happening all around us. It was one of the best run missions I have seen in a long time. The photos I made can be seen at ..........http://andrews3.gotfamiliesonline.com........and if anyone wishes to save any, just right click on what you want and save them to your computer. Special thanks to the BMW Patriot Guard Rider who protected me as I made the photos during the escort. He made my efforts a lot easier. God grant the family of this HERO a measure of peace that passeth understanding as they know that James has gone ahead to a better place. |

My wife and I attended LCpl Gluff's services not as members of PGR, but as the parents of a fellow Marine who fought alongside Big James on 19January2008. We were impressed with the turnout by members of both Georgia and Tennessee PGR and enjoyed the time we spent chatting with all of you prior to the visitation on Sunday. Cricket, nobody would know this was your first mission as a RC. Congratulations on a job very well done and thank you to all who were there.
To the residents of Georgia and Tennessee who took time out of their day to line the roads and overpasses, to the LEO of both states who blocked intersections and every on-ramp on I-75 North, to the firefighters who paid their respects, and to all of the southbound travelers who stopped simply to pay their respects to an American hero: you are what makes this country great.
Respectfully,
Dave |

Wednsday night 1/23/08 I made a phone call to the first funeral home on my list, to prepare for getting a confirmation to Honor our Marine. I have never made this type of phone call before, and I was scared. I thought if I dont get the funeral director to see my heart, we might not get invited. I happened to call the correct funeral home on my first try from the list out of Dalton. I talked with the director for few minutes and he said, "hold on, Michaels wife is right here you can talk to her". I panicked, I was in the car with my family going through Burger King. I got out of the car, sat on the sidewalk and heard this small voice, Hello?
It was the hardest thing to do, she and I both cried. She asked us to be a part of everything, she wanted us there without question. THus began a worldwind for me, being my first mission, knowing we had 1 chance to get it right. After talking with Hope that first time, I had the huge sense of wanting to protect her, and for us to be the source of peace for her and the family. I sent out a call for help, and we had 8 people in a flag line/airport escort the next day.
The first in a series of amazing events. And because we are an organization without borders, we had TN, FLA, AND Alabama PGR and folks from so many riding clubs that I cant begin to name them all. But we all have the same heart. So it was no wonder that we had 32 folks on Sunday for the visitation.
The weather for the funeral started out at 24 degrees, but that did not stop some from riding, some over a hundred miles, some from out of state, but all with the same goal, honoring this family, and our Marine. THe family was due to arrive at the funeral home by 10am, Monday morning, so we did a small flag line there, with about 12 people. As Hope arrived, I greeted her with as big a hug as we both could muster, she stepped back and said, Cricket, do I look pretty? I said you look beautiful, baby. And so it went.
Hope held her head high, as she went into the funeral home to say her last goodbye. She told me she did not want to say goodbye to him. Her pain was a visible reminder to all, the cost of freedom.
I watched in amazement as over 70 bikes pulled into the staging, with riders taking off layer after layer. It was cold! And I was so proud. We all were there with one goal, it did not matter the cold, the overcast skies, the distance, and from every walk of life, with one heart, we were there. The flagline at the funeral home went almost end to end with the building.
Tall and Proud our flags flew. I cant ever remember walking around in between a state of awe and anxiousness, that so many different clubs were represented, that friends of Michael wanted to ride, and praying that we got it right, and safe.
We left for the short ride to the Chattanooga National Cemetary, taking the long way through MIchael and Hopes hometown. And the sight along that entire route will never leave me. The people standing next to eachother to pay there respects to the family, saluting Michael as he went by, waving banners and American FLags, covering the overpasses. One man traveling down 75 south, I think, standing on the hood of his cement truck saluting. The Tennessee Army National Guard standing in formation.
What an unbelievable outpouring of love for Hope and her family. THe town of Tunnel Hill, and surrounding towns, got it right. As did all the support of the Law Enforcement, DOT and just more people than I can put name to.
As the service was winding down, and nearly over, off in the distance, under a now beautiful blue sky, a train was leaving the station, its horn sounded in the distance, fading the farther away it got, I thought of MIchaels journey toward the arms of God. How fitting an ending to a sad, hard emotion filled two days, we all watched little Michael Wayne toddling his way around the casket, knowing the rough road still ahead, in my mind was WE WILL NEVER FORGET. Thank you all to those who came out to honor Big James, to the LEO, the funeral director, the Red Knights, and to GA, TN FLA, and Alabama PGR and so many more riders and clubs then I can name. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and Hopes, thank you. |

Firefighters don't choose the fires; The Armed Forces don't choose the wars. The alarm sounds: we go.
And then came a rumbling felt - and heard - from miles away. It was the Patriot Guard, As they rumbled away, retired Marine Col. Don Beaver, one the parade's organizers, flashed a smile.
"That," he said, "is the sound of patriotism."

| Cricket - Thank you just isn't enough. You did a wonderful job, I would never have guessed it was your first mission as an RC and I know how much Hope appreciated having you there. I attended with other parents from the 1/8 and the outpouring of love and support left us speechless. Our boys in Iraq are grateful to all who attended and supported the family. I have sent the pictures we took to the BN so that our boys can see the tremendous support and respect given to their brother. |

What is seen in the eyes tells a story. Great Job Cricket
Hero Home
We wait for months
To see you again
All the while praying
Not knowing when
Talking with you on the phone
Your calming voice
I ask you when you’re coming home
You say I don’t know
That is not my choice
When I hang up the phone
I do not want to say goodbye
For at that moment you are home
So I said I Love You with a sigh
I watch the news everyday
Hoping to see you
Just to know your ok
All it does is make me blue
I woke up today
With the phone ringing
And a knock at the door
The Angels stopped singing
I plan your return now
Knowing you’ll be home soon
Greeting you with love
On a cold afternoon
You arrive on time as always
The whole town waiting
To show love in so many ways
For my brave one
What long days
You look sharp in colors
Red, White and Blue
Always looking after others
That is just you
Hero Home

The Fallen... Through Their Memory They Still Give...
We thought of you with love today But that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday And days before that too.
We think of you in silence We often speak your name.
Now all we have are memories And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake With which we'll never part
God has you in His keeping We have you in our Heart.
Life is unpredictable, so to try and predict what is ahead is only asking for disappointment. Just live it as we can. Love and love of life will help us be guided in our decisions as we go forward. Todd Moyer/ 2008 |
