This was my second mission and words can not begin to describe the way I feel. I am honored to stand shoulder to shoulder with such a great group of people. My first mission was Nathaniel Given's service. I was taken back by the number of riders that showed up, and being a newbie, was glad that I had someone standing next to me that was able to tell me what happened next, etc. While the day was long, and I was feeling damp, cold and tired when I got home, I knew it was nothing to what our young soldier Nathaniel had experienced and endured. I couldn't put my finger on it, but I felt different.
The next morning, I got up early and drove my daughter to a volleyball tournament. Before the games started, the announcer asked all the players to hug their parents and say thanks for letting me play. The hug from my 14 year old felt different - I truly cherished it more. But when they started to play the Star Spangled Banner, my eyes welled up (it truly was a "Boomer" moment. I remember standing at the Mt. Olivet cemetary, with flags catching my face, head and arms, and feeling that it was the best place to be on that damp dreary day. It was right then and there, that I knew I needed to be at Dustin's service, because I felt the need to give them, like the announcer at the volleyball tournament, this would be a hug for the family, thanking them for sharing their son with us.
Thank you PGR for this opportunity, it truly was a heart changing and life changing experience.
God Bless each and every one of you.
I missed this this morning on the news, but thought that you might like to see it...

| Our mission for Dustin was an awesome success. The turnout of new and experienced members was by far the largest I have ever seen. Everyone acted with the utmost respect and discipline. I am very proud to have been a part of this mission with my fellow PGR brothers and sisters.
I got to be in the front section of Flag Bikes that led the funeral procession from the church to the cemetery. As we slowly traveled the route, we saw hundreds of folks who had gathered outside of stores, a firehouse, subdivisions and a school. They lined the streets and stood by with their own flags, or with their hands over their hearts. They were there of course to honor Dustin. He must have touched a great many lives in his community. Lord knows I had to dry my eyes more than once along that route.
May God bless the Donica family and their many friends. Thank you for allowing us to participate, and to honor Dustin too.

Once again the PGR has came through with the support for the family and community. We can only hope that the next time we can all come out it will be for a Welcome Home ride. Wouldn't that be great to have that many bikes out and to have tears of joy. I'd be proud to stand with any of ya. |

Mr and Mrs Donica, thank you for allowing us to Honor your son. I hope that our support helps you to find some peace during this difficult time.
It was a long day for Fireman and I, as we came in from Austin. The ride down was cold, but when we arrived at staging the overwhelming warmth we found from all of the PGR members there was enough to keep the cold at bay for the ride home.
I am Proud to be a small part of this grassroots effort to show support for the men and woman that give the ultimate sacrafice in the defense of our freedom. Yesterday's support effort proved to me again that I am doing right by paying my Respect to the true heroes of our time.

| I was a first time rider and was overwhelmed by the turnout of 241 bikes for this fallen hero. To the parents of Dustin R. Donica please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of this great soldier. To my fellow PGR brothers and sisters, you are best family an old vet biker could ask for. I look forward to some welcome home rides and may God bless you all. |

I received this from Mr. Donica today and wanted to share this. I have seen the story on Fox and it is very moving:
John, The Donica Family wishes to thank each member of the Patriot Guard Riders for their tribute to our son, Specialist Dustin R. Donica, at his funeral on January 8, 2007. We were humbled by the number of riders, and the respect shown during the funeral. Please post this email in the appropriate place on your website, so that we may thank each member who participated. We were both impressed and appreciative of your presence. I encourage you to take a few moments and view the attached link before it expires. Please pass this along to all of your membership. Fox has taken Dustin's last email to us, and done something fairly remarkable. It is a tribute that all veteran's, past and present, deserve.
