I haven't been able to post all day, as my computer crashed this AM.  But due to the fact I wound up having my kids tonight, I will not be able to attend the escort.  But I am planning on the mission Saturday.  Is there a jumping off point in Fargo for Saturday?

Anyone from GF or surrounding interested in meeting up for Saturday let me know.

Curiousity killed the cat, but for a while, I was a suspect.

Mankato Sector Ride Plan.

PLEASE RSVP if you plan to make this mission. I need someone to take charge of this mission and fill in as Ride Captain for the Mankato Sector as I will be out of town. It's very important that you RSVP me at mn.pgr.mankatorc@gmail.com if you plan on making this mission. Thank you.

Mankato will be riding to the Pelican Rapids, MN mission.

1. 4:45am - We will stage at Mankato Harley Davidson, 1200 North River Drive in Mankato. (Just off Hwy 14 and on Hwy 169). Everyone MUST sign a release form prior to departure. Make sure you have a full tank of gas prior to departure.

2. Ride Briefing will be at 5:00am.

3. 5:05am - We will depart Mankato HD and get on Hwy 14 and travel Westbound.

4. At New Ulm turn onto Hwy 15 and travel Northbound.

5. At Klossner turn onto County Road 5 and travel Westbound.

6. At Hwy 4 turn and travel Northbound.

7. Stop and gas up at the Fairfax gas station, it has 92 octane fuel.

8. At Fairfax turn onto Hwy 19 and travel Westbound.

9. At Morton turn onto Hwy 71 and travel Northbound.

10. Continue on Hwy 71 to Willmar where we stop for gas at the BP Station, they have 92 octane fuel.

11. Continue on Hwy 71 Northbound.

12. Continue on to I-94 where we stop at Truckers Inn for gas, they have 92 octane fuel.

13. We turn onto I-94 and travel Westbound.

14. At Fergus Falls Frontier BP we stop for gas, they have 92 octane fuel.

15. At Fergus Falls we turn onto Hwy 59 and travel Northbound.

16. 10:00am - Arrival at Pelican Rapids. This is where we will be holding the final staging for the mission.

Total ride time: 4 hours, 45 minutes.
Total miles: 244.78 miles.

I know this route is a little out of the way, however this keeps us on semi major roads which should provide safe shoulders should someone need to pull off in an emergency.

Bring a 3x5 foot flag and pole if at all possible.

Remember to dress appropriately for the weather, pack rain gear just in case, bring WATER and something to EAT. We must be self-sufficient.

Again, I will not be able to make this mission, however, those making this mission will stage at Mankato Harley Davidson and ride as a group to Pelican Rapids for this mission.

Gathering time in Eden Prairie for the mission to honor SSG Hanson in Pelican Rapids is 4:00 AM - leaving no later than 4:20 AM.

We will meet in the Eden Prairie Mall parking lot closest to the McDonalds where we have met before.

Map quest says it is 41 minutes to Rogers where we will meet up with all Metro Sectors going to Pelican Rapids . Please RSVP if you can attend.

If I can plagiarize Doug Bley's post the ride will follow his itinerary:

5:00 am Arrival at the Holiday in Rogers, MN. From I-94 West take Exit 207/Hwy 101 North and turn right. Stay in the right lane and make your first right on Diamond Lake Road. The Holiday station is on your right and is next to the Burger King. Please fuel as necessary to ride 100 miles. Lennie the Station Manager has promised coffee for all of us! Stage in the back of the station unless there are tucks there. Move to the Burger King lot then. Please sign the mission waiver at this time.

5:15am Mission Briefing

5:30am Kickstands up and rolling

7:00am Arrive in Sauk Centre, MN for a gas stop (87 miles) at the Holiday station. We will take the Hwy 71 exit and go north .5 miles. The Holiday will be on the right. We will probably meet up with the Willmar group at this station.

7:45am No later than kickstands up

9:30am Arrive in Pelican Rapids, MN (93 miles) by going to the Hwy 59 N exit towards Pelican Rapids from I-94. We will stop for gas at the Holiday station on 209 S Broadway. It will be on our right.

9:50am No later than kickstands up

10:00am Arrive at Pelican Rapids staging area. Staging area is to be at the Pelican Rapids Police Department at 33 North Broadway. We will stage in the parking lot south of the building.

Please check this Forum should anything change, we will post any changes here.

We will be traveling at posted speed limits including Interstate speeds (70mph) riding in staggered formation. If this is beyond your riding skills or comfort level, please follow along behind the group on your own, cage it, or pass on this mission.

Helpful Tips & Hints:
For the Ride
Sign Waiver ASAP upon arrival so you don’t hold up departure time
Staggered Formation, 1 sec / 2 sec window
Steady Throttle
Watch for Road Guards and give them room to re-enter formation

At the Mission
We are here to RESPECT above everything else.

Turn Off Cell Phones & Pagers.

Be tactful when taking pictures. Just remember, would it be appropriate at your funeral?

DO NOT leave during ceremonies. Wait or get a push away and be aware of throttle

* edited by wescoot2       Turn Back and ignore, PERIOD

Allow 4’ spacing between flags for uniform appearance and so you don’t whip your neighbor
Do not dip the American Flag 45 degrees is considered tipped.

Be flexible as things change, work with it. And if you have a question, ask a ride captain.

Be sure to bring plenty of water, something to eat, and appropriate riding gear for the weather forecast. Also bring a 3x5 foot flag and pole (if at all possible).

If there are any questions Please let me know.

I know we are spread thin this weekend so this is the time to make your membership in the Patriot Guard count. We have 2 heroes to honor, they did more that their part, now it is time for us to do our part.

May God Bless all the American Heroes we honor this week, their families and loved ones, and May God Bless America!

Thank you!

FYI on Holiday station in Pelican Rapids.

It is now a BP station (same location). There is also a Citgo travel center on the south end of Pelican Rapids.

Thank you to all the riders tonight for the escort of the Hanson family from Hector Field in Fargo. Over 130 bikes.

To SSG Joshua Hanson's Dad,

It was a honor to shake your hand tonight. What you did tonight makes us all stand a little taller, a little prouder, a lot more emotional and helps define why we do what we do.

God bless you and your family.

I was not able to make the escort ride tonight due to work but I saw it on the news and it looked like an awesome turnout.

For SSG Hanson's family: I am a former member of of the 2/136. Although I'm older now and most of the members I knew are gone from the unit I still feel a close bond to all the members of the 2/136. Currently two of my club brothers are with the unit in Iraq and I watch the news everyday in fear of hearing one of their names listed as a caualty. With my club brothers, their relatives and the people we know it's nearly impossible to not feel connected to each member of the 2/136. One of my club brother's family members works with SSG Hanson's famiy member.

We have had 4 losses in the past 6 weeks: 2 fathers, one step-mother and now, one son. As with each of them I wish there was some way to reverse the loss or at least to ease the pain of it: Unfortunately I don't have any way to do this. Although I believe in the saying that "Freedom isn't Free" and I believe in our nation's need to help promote world peace and stability the loss of even one US soldier seems to much of a price to pay.

I'm sure that Joshua was an excellent soldier, a terrific son and a good man. My condolences and prayers are with you. If there is anything that I can personally do to help you in this terrible time of mourning don't hesitate to call on me.

Standing by in Moorhead, MN.

When Tomorrow Starts Without Me
By David Romano
Posted in memory of Anthony "Tony" Elliot Fabri
August 26, 1982 - June 22, 2000

When tomorrow starts without me,
and I'm not there to see;
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
all filled with tears for me;
I wish so much you wouldn't cry
the way you did today,
While thinking of the many things
we didn't get to say.
I know how much you love me,
as much as I love you,
And each time you think of me,
I know you'll miss me, too.
But when tomorrow starts without me,
please try and understand,
That an angel came and called my name
and took me by the hand,
And said my place was ready
in heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind
all those I dearly love.
But as I turned to walk away,
a tear fell from my eye,
For all my life I'd always thought
I didn't want to die.
I had so much to live for
and so much yet to do,
It seemed almost impossible
that I am leaving you.
I thought of all the yesterdays,
the good ones and the bad,
I thougth of all the love we shared
and all the fun we had.
If I could relive yesterday,
I thought, just for a while,
I'd say good-bye and kiss you
and maybe see your smile.
But then I fully realized
that this could never be.
For emptiness and memories
would take the place of me.
And when I thought of worldly things
that I'd miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
my heart was filled with sorrow.
But when I walked through heaven's gates,
I felt so much at home.
When God look down and smiled at me,
from His great golden throne.
He said, "This is eternity
and all I've promised you,
Today your life on earth is past,
but here it starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow,
but today will always last,
And since each day's the same day,
there's no longing for the past.
But you have been so faithful,
so trusting and so true,
Though there were times you did some things
you knew you shouldn't do.
But you have been forgiven,
and now at last your free.
So won't you take my hand
and share my life with me?"
So when tomorrow starts without me,
don't think we're far apart,
For everytime you think of me,
I'm right here in your heart.

Vinnie, I don't know if there will be a "true" support vehicle with us this time.  Perhaps, we should include a of the chairs and coolers of water.  I have three chairs similar to yours and quite a few coolers.  I can pick up some bottled water today since I'm off work anyway.  I'll email you directions to my house if you want to stop by this evening to pick up the chairs, coolers and water.

At the funeral home in Pelican Rapids after the escort mission, a young man came up to a few of us standing there, and said to pass on thanks to everyone who was there from the friends and family of SSG Hanson.  He said several of the people he was with will be pall-bearers tomorro.  He said they so appreciated all the support of not only the PGR, but everyone who came out.  So am passing along the thanks for a job well done!

Dave, I'll be there, God willin' and the creek don't rise.  I'll try to link up with the riders from up north here first, then ride there.

I've had computer problems the last couple days, so my response time has been slow.

Kingpin, maybe if somebody has a first aid kit just in case..........

Ral, water at the staging area is great, but we may want water to drink during the course of the day once we get to the mission site.

I picked up 4 cases of water, and I have two big coolers to put the water in, along with the 20 bag of ice so we can keep the water cold.

Anyone interested, coming from the north (GF, etc)  for the funeral escort, we are meeting at the Stop N Go in Hillsboro and leaving by 8 AM to head down.  STop N Go is right off the Interstate, for those not familiar.

Just a point of interest for riders coming into Pelican Rapids from 108 off of I-94 , right before you get to town there are rough road signs, well they are not rough roads , they are loose gravel ( found out last night ) about a 100 yard stretch on a curve.
Just take it easy. don't need anybody getting hurt. Ride safe.
