Unless there is a different plan there will be a staging at the Mermaid on hwy 10 and H2 in Mounds View at 4:00 am. we will leave there at 4:20. if the north metro crew wants to roll that way we can hook up. due to road constuction on 694. the best route would be hwy 10 to 35 E to 52.

Attention Mankato, MN Sector:
We will meet at Mankato Harley Davidson, 1200 North River Drive in Mankato (just off Hwy 14 and on Hwy 169). Everyone MUST sign a release form prior to departure. Make sure you have a full tank of gas and be ready to ride the 93 miles (2 hours) to Stewartville, MN to meet up with the rest of the Patriot Guard Riders from Minnesota.
4:00 am Stage at Mankato Harley Davidson
4:10 am Ride Briefing
4:20 am Depart Mankato Harley Davidson
Take Hwy 14 East to Hwy 52 South Hwy 52 South to Hwy 63 South Hwy 63 South cross I-90 and go 3/4 mile to Stewartville Kwik Trip.
6:30 am Arrive at Stewartville Kwik Trip, gas up for the 71 miles (1 hour 11 minutes) ride to LaCrosse WI. Then fall in line to the west of Kwik Trip on Schumacher Drive, 2x2 for an easy exit. If needed, the Builders-Choice parking lot is available for overflow. The road may have soft asphalt, so bring kickstand puck or pop can.
6:50 am Ride Briefing
7:00 am Depart for LaCrosse Harley Davidson
8:25 am Arrive at LaCrosse Harley Davidson for the final staging.
Please check this Forum should anything change, we will post any changed here.
We will be traveling at posted speed limits including Interstate speeds (70mph) riding in staggered formation. If this is beyond your riding skills or comfort level, please follow along behind the group on your own, cage it, or pass on this mission.
Be sure to bring plenty of water, something to eat, and appropriate riding gear for the weather forecast. Also bring a 3x5 foot flag and pole (if at all possible).
I look forward to seeing old friends, and meeting new friends on this mission. Everyone ride safe.

The latest so far:
Staging at the La Crosse area Harley Davidson Dealer (use exit #4 off of I-90) at 0830. Stanfield Vending is donating 500 pastries for us. Panera Bread resturant is about 1.5 blocks from the dealer and will be open if you wish to purchase coffee or even breakfast. We will be kickstands up at 0920 to move to St Paul's Lutheran Church parking lot (about a block from where the service will be). Onalaska Police will be providing traffic control for us. We will be going up 12th Ave South to Main Street and then left to St Paul's Lutheran Church. We will be providing a flagline on Main street during the visitation and when the service starts we will be realigning to provide a tunnel of honor from the church to the cemetary which is about 2 blocks away. If there are enough people I envision forming the flagline into the cemetary as needed.
Once we are parked at the begining of the visitation there should be no major movement of the bikes so as not to disrupt the church. The Onalaska Police may direct some bikes to form a line of honor from the church to the cemetary but most of us will be parked at the Lutheran church. Stay flexible!!
For planning purposes, it looks right now that the service will be over about noon. |

Henry, great job setting this up. I'm sure everything will go off without any major issues.
One questions, though. We are setting a flag line to and possibly into the cemetary. Have we been asked to stay for the burial and form a wall of flags, or are we to leave once the family and guests have entered the cemetary? |

If you plan on coming up US Hwy 14 from Madison or Hwy 61 from Dubuque, there is a detour west of Coon Valley to just south of La Crosse. The official detour will take you south on Hwy 162 to Stoddard, then north up Hwy 35. A more direct route to Onalaska is Hwy 162 north from Coon Valley to Hwy 33 and then east to La Crosse or all the way to Bangor and east on I-90 or Hwy 16.
For the return ride on scenic roads, I suggest:
East: Hwy 33 or Hwy 16 above or through the La Crosse River valley North or south: Hwy 35 along the Mississippi River West: Hwy 16 through the Root River valley
Also Bliss Rd up to Grandad's Bluff is washed out. If you want to go up to the Bluff, take Hwy 33 (Jackson St or State Rd in La Crosse) to CTH F and come in the back way. You can see 3 states from the Bluff and if you've never been, it is worth the effort.
Another scenic overlook is up Elm St N/Scenic Dr CTH 29 and CTH 1 from La Crescent. This is just off I-90/Hwy 14/61.

North Metro Staging area-
For those of you heading down from Elk River, Ramsey, Anoka, Andover, Coon Rapids, Champlin, and the surrounding areas, here is the plan...
Meet at the Holiday Gas Station on 169 & Champlin Drive (across 169 from Super Target and in front of Lifetime Fitness). Leave the station at 4:00 am, but please arrive by 3:45-3:50 to fill out waiver forms. From there we will travel south on 169 to 62 East (crosstown), and then 55/52 south to meet up with the Metro group at the Petrol station in Inver Grove Heights. The total ride time (according to Map Quest) should be about 50 minutes.
If anyone wants to hook up with us along the way, we should be at 169/394 at approximately 4:15-4:20 am, and then at 169/62 at approximately 4:25-4:30 am. We will just be driving by, so join the group. You will have to fill out waivers in Inver Grove Heights.
Dave and I ride a red Suzuki V Strom with a Givi trunk, and will be at Holiday with the waivers. Kevin, the official NW Metro RC may not be able to make the mission, so we are planning this staging area with his approval.
Any questions, feel free to email me.
Until Saturday,
Alena Hunter

It is with great sorrow that I make another entry in these forums.
To the family and friends of Sr. Airman Servais: My family and I wish to extend our deepest sympathies to you in this troubling time. Words are a terribly small comfort for the price you have paid ensuring the freedom so many take for granted, and the words of a stranger even less so, but words are one of the few things I can offer.
I and thousands of others join you in your grief at Adam’s passing. I am humbled and proud to be able to take a small part in honoring the sacrifice he made for us.
I will be there. To stand with our flag. To shed my tears. And honor a man who paid the ultimate price for liberty!
God bless you all!

My sympathies to the family and friends of Airman Servais. Thanks to
the family for allowing us to pay our respects. May our presence give
you some small comfort in your time of grief.
Hagtwo, I'm planning on meeting you at the Mermaid. Our route will take
us thru the construction on 694 heading to 35E but it will not pose any
problems as the traffic will be light to non-existent.
Godspeed to all.

Twin Cities Southwest Metro Sector:
Since we will be leaving the Petrol Pumper in Inver Grove Heights at 5:20 AM I want to leave the Eden Prairie Mall no later than 4:20 AM. We will meet as before in the Parking area between Wildfire, Barnes & Noble and Sears, closer to the McDonalds end of the lot. There is a BP station right across the street if anyone needs gas, etc. The McDonalds is not open at that time of night.
Just a reminder to bring some water, some food, arrive with a full tank of gas and have your 3' X 5" flag with you.
We will leave the Eden Prairie Mall and take 494 East to Hiway 52, then 52 south to the Petrol Pumper. I have been that way many times and know where the Petrol Pumper is but I am not sure how long it will take us to get there so I am giving some extra time in there. Mapquest says 32 minutes so we will want to leave on time. I know we will have to have some time at the Staging area to get organized with the rest of the Metro so we want to be there around 5:00 AM
Please let me know if there are any questions.
Thank you!

It is with mixed emotions that I post for the first time, excited to meet the group, wish it was under different circumstances. Kindest regards to the family.
As we depart from the service, I'll be heading to Minnesota through Arcadia WI, which is 1.5 -2 hours away from Onalaska via scenic (curvy) roads. From there I'll be heading north more or less parallelling WI 10 back to MN and heading north of Forest Lake. All of this will be on curvy roads, unless I get tired at which point I'll make a bee-line to WI 10 and proceed home. If anyone wants to join me for the ride back, respond to this post and we canmake arrangements.
See you all Saturday. |
