I was told by a member in WV that the stone should go through PA around West Alexander 8/23 in the A.M. Can anyone confirm this for me, as I was planning on going.

Thanx!

OHIO PGR:

Butch, We're anxiously awaiting this priceless piece of history.  After the hand-off we plan to have breakfast, we hope you will join us.  Place may get a little crowded, but heck, a box of donuts and a cup of coffee between friends is a 7 course meal.

[i][b]I'm a little at a loss for words right now as I just returned home from transporting this piece of our history from Shanksville to Wheeling.  I think I'll let Joe (Zinoble) to make the posting regarding the ceremonies during the transfer from our VA/MD/DE contingent to those of us of PA/WV.  At this point, all I can say is it was extremely moving and something I shall never forget.

As I was driving back toward Wheeling, being led by two bikes, trailed by one cage and six other riders, I had many opportunities to let my mind wander occasionally and think about what was sitting in the bed of my truck.  Yes, at first glance it is nothing more than a piece of ordinary limestone, what you might see on the facade of many buildings throughout this country.  But this is by no mens ordinary.  I asked myself many times....Where on the Pentagon was this located?.....How was it recovered and from where exactly?  Questions I'll never find the answers to but the simple fact that it was attached to OUR Pentagon, where well over 100 of our own countrymen lost their lives with no prior warning of what was happening, makes this particular piece of limestone EXTRAORDINARY, to say the least.  Being afforded the opportunity to transport this valuable piece of history is something I will be eternally grateful for.  Thank you, Joe, for accepting my offer.

To all my PGR brothers and sisters in attendance today, I just want to say a very simple thank you.  To have come together as you did, during the week, on a journey of this magnitude makes me extremely proud to among your number.

Suzy Q, it was an extreme pleasure to make your acquaintance today.

To all who may be interested, as a reminder, we will meet tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at the West Virginia Welcome Station on I-70W at 0830, with kickstands up at 0900 for the trip to the Shenandoah Truck Stop just east of Cambridge, OH for the transfer to our Ohio contingent.  Any who are able, please make every attempt to assist in this escort.

22 Aug 2006 7:42 PM Alert

PENTAGON STONE MISSION ILLINOIS PORTION UPDATE:

Here is the current and most up-to-date itinerary we have available.

POC:  EAST - Sean Aaron (PGR Ride Captain) / Joe Tracy (Road Captain

            Mission Support:  Arne Dahlgren

WEST - Chris Brocksmith (Illinois State Captain) / Rose Connolly (Ride Captain)

ITINERARY:  Meet the Patriot Guard Riders of Indiana on Interstate 70 at exit 154.  Time will be 1:30-2:00 pm.  This is a change due to Indiana running on a different time zone.  We will pass Pentagon limestone to the Illinois National Guard, 1344th Transportation Unit (based in E. St Louis, IL).  Illinois State Police are working on providing an escort.  There are no facilities at this exit so be gassed and ready to ride.  Kickstands will go up as soon as possible.  Leader:  Sean Aaron/Joe Tracy

We will travel west on Interstate 70 to Effingham, IL.  Approximate arrival time in Effingham will be 3:15 pm.  ISP Captain from District 12 believes exit 159 would be a logistical nightmare as it is at a light where Semis often go through and you have to make 2 turns to get into this service station which has very limited room.  That being said, the exit will be changed.  There will be a photo op for local press.  The Lt Gov (Pat Quinn) may or may not be there.  The local sheriff’s office is working on providing an escort west out of Effingham.  Harold Davis (PGR) is setting up Effingham for this mission.  He will have the exact location on Wednesday (23 AUG 06) in the a.m.

The Rally Point in Effingham will be at the I-57/70 interchange, Exit 162.  Take US 45 North for 200 yards to the old (closed down) Four Seasons Restaurant next to the CITGO station.  Gas and restrooms are available at CITGO.

We will then proceed west on I-70 to the Illinois National Guard Armory at 2931 State Street, East St. Louis, IL 62205-2233.  Expected arrival time is 5:30 pm.

At 8:00 am on Friday, 25 AUG 06, Ride Captain Rose Connolly, will meet with other riders, at the Illinois National Guard Armory again.  The Guard will transport the stone to the St. Louis Gateway Arch for turnover to the Patriot Guard Riders of Missouri at 9:00 am.

BADMAN / "Doing the right thing for freedom"

A great letter that I do not want to take away from. I just believe the credit should go to whom credit is due. This was actually a column written by  Doug Patton, a freelance columnist and political speechwriter. The e-mail-circulated version leaves off his two opening paragraphs and adds a closing "I don't give a sheet either about those sheet heads!" statement that wasn't in his original, but it is otherwise a faithful copy of his article, which was first published on the gopusa.com web site on 6 June 2005 under the title "Ask Me if I Care About 'Mishandling' of Koran" and which has since been reproduced on a number of other web sites. Go to Snopes.com and read all about it.

Personally I agree, "I don't care!"

Was just returning from Philly on Sunday. travelled US 30 from Lancaster, PA to Greensburg, PA, then cut down 119 to I-70. Along US 30, pulled off to the Shanksville Memorial. It was a sombering experience. With over 80 people there, the only sound one could hear was the mighty ruffling of the flags erected at the temporary memorial. I even videotaped a couple minutes of the sflags as I walked around the memorial and will put it up on my home page this week. I am looking forward to be part of the IL/MO ride across Missouri.

Just a warning. On I-70 thru Indiana there are a couple of sections of one lane travel. Traffic was backed up miles at each area during the day as I was rolling East bound to Philly last Wednesday. Coming back on Monday evening, traffic was nil and smooth going, as construction was not active.

Be prepared for long delays, causing bike heatups on I-70. US 40 may be an option in those areas as there was no construction. The towns with lights might pose a problem, but not like an overheated engine sitting in a 5 mile backup..

Same problem going from E. St. Louis over the river to the ARCH. Traffic is just a snarl trying to get over the Poplar Street bridge. OK. Construction has been finished on the Poplar Street bridge, so I've been informed. But!  Be careful if you are not familiar with that stretch. I-55, I-64, & I-70 all merge into one big mess trying to get over the semi-Mighty Mississippi. Be prepared for delays.

Just an FYI for those in the group.  Adding some photos taken Sunday at the Flight 93 Memorial.

See you at the ARCH!

Hi Crazy I am a relatively new member from Hillsboro.  Great pictures!  I have yet to ride my first mission but am hoping maybe to be on this ride.

And to the post that had the article about "Laying it on the Line".  AMEN.  I don't care who the author is, every American should stand and salute.  My dad served in the Korean War. He had people ask didn't he feel bad about all the civilians that were caught in the cross fire.  His statement, "When a people are so fanatical that they will take their own children strap grenades under their arms. Then send them into a camp so that they would explode when picked up by a soldier, he felt sorry for the kids, they had no choice.  But you were just as dead, didn't matter whether it was an enemy soldier or merely a pawn."

So I  am another American who heartedly agrees, I don't care!

23 Aug 2006 6:31 AM Alert
Good morning all!

Well, where do I begin?  Yesterday was so incredibly moving and the thoughts that have been flying around in my head are a challenge to filter and put down in a manner in which all can understand - even me.

Yesterday morning, TUESDAY, 22 August 2006, was a beautiful, but not quite as clear as the morning of TUESDAY, September 11, 2001.  That has to be the first thing that registered with me yesterday.  The second that occured is that yesterday was Tuesday.

VA PGR met at the Iwo Jima Memorial and folks started arriving very early.  Stage time was 9:15 A, but many of us were there as early as 8:15A.  The levity of what the day had in store for us was evident in everyone's faces.  Arlington County, Virginia police escort arrived at 9:30A, right on time and escorted us to the North Pentagon parking lot.  While this was occuring, Frank Baranyi took the time to secure a chaplain for a blessing of the PGR and stone before we departed.  The Pentagon Police were awaiting our arrival at the North Parking lot to keep us secure.  I shook each officers hand and thanked them for being there.... just wish I had the forethought to have gotten their names so they could be properly addressed in this post.  Apologies, fellas.  You will always be a part of this mission.

Todd from the Congressman's office arrived with the stone.  2 PGR moved it from his vehicle to mine into the box that Frank and his neighbor built specifically for this part of American history.  Thank you Frank and Gary.  The chaplain then blessed us, the stone, and the mission at hand and reminded us how important this stone is.  While just a piece of limestone at first glance, when you think about it, it is just so much more than that.  We all know this.  With shaking hands, I laid my personal flag over the stone for the transport.  It only seemed right and my fellow PGR agreed.

Departure from the Pentagon with Frank in the lead, onto the busy highways of the Washington DC area and then gracefully onto the roads of our urban neighbors in Maryland and Pennsylvania.  Another symbolism of transition, if you will.

We joined up with a few of our fine MD PGR  and Steve from MD and Frank of VA took the lead.  We went through our day without incident.  When we found our way onto the rolling roads of Pennsylvania, I could feel a "hush" over us all, even though you could plainly hear the bikes.  We stopped just a couple of miles away from Shanksville to unfurl our flags for arrival into Shanksville.  When we turned onto the small road that lead us to Shanksville, I turned on the National Anthem from Leahann Rhimes (sp?).  By the time we arrived at the parking lot of Shanksville, Ray Charles' America the Beautiful... don't know if anyone heard that or not.

The minute I crested the hill before I saw Shanksville, I welled up.  You see, I've never been to Shanksville.  I got my truck situated and all you could hear were the flags blowing the breeze.  The PGR, all of us, brought out the flags that we had and the box lay covered in my flag.  Steve from MD and I uncovered the stone and there was another resounding hush.  The media was there, although I don't know from what stations or newspapers.  They converged on the sight and took so many pictures, which I am glad of.  Yesterday and the coming days of this mission can never be forgotten either.

Steve and I got the box out of my truck and gently laid it on the ground and more photos were taken.  Then Frank, Steve and I carried it to the memorial stone at Shanksville that say's "Let's Roll".  By then I was pretty much a mess, so I don't remember what the rest of it said.  Bob Beck with PGR graced us with a beautiful prayer and blessing.  Thank you, Bob - it was perfect.

Frank said some words, and as he described later, what he had intended in his brain, didn't come out - what was in his heart did.  He asked if I had a few words and through tears and a very shaky voice (and behind sunglasses thank goodness!) all I remember saying is this, "There are no words to express the honor that I have had in transporting this stone today."  and then something to the effect of, "The transportation of this stone from our nation's capital to the middle of our country goes to show that September 11, 2001 will NEVER and I mean EVER be forgotten."

And it won't.  Ever.

And neither will yesterday.  Ever.

The MD PGR and VA PGR then performed what I call the "Changing of the Guard of Stone" with the PA PGR and WV PGR.  The 4 captains, 2 on either side, exchanged the box containing the stone.  Then the PA PGR and the WV PGR and Joan carried the box to George's truck and loaded it into the back.

Leg 1 of Pentagon Stone Transfer:  MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

After this ceremony, many of us heard the presentation from one of the ambassadors of Shanksville.  She (and boy, I wish I could remember her name, but those of you who know me, know that I am not good at names!) was so appreciative of us, and us of her and for the other ambassadors that manage the Shanksville site.

We all know that there was so many other things that happened:  feelings that were felt, commaraderie that was experienced, and worlds that were said, that like I wrote at the beginning are a challenge to filter and express in a way that is concise and understandable... even to me.  All I know is this:

I will never forget September 11, 2001.
I will never forget those serving today to protect our precious freedoms.
I will never forget those who have served for centuries to secure our freedoms in the first place.
I will never forsake those that will serve in the future.

And I will never forget 22 August 2006 with my treasured Patriot Guard Riders.

Always -

Our Land is Free Because of Brave.  And God Bless them All.

Just a heads-up that construction on the Poplar Street Bridge between East St. Louis, IL and downtown St. Louis, MO is FINISHED!  Trust me -- it makes someone like me who travels that bridge every single day to and from work very, very happy when the project gets finished two weeks ahead of schedule!

Pentagon to Dodge City, KS – Special Mission – Leg 2

Shanksville to Wheeling:  Mission Accomplished

As I write this, the PGR in Wheeling have begun Leg-3 of the Pentagon Memorial Stone's journey to Dodge City, KS.  Godspeed my brothers & sisters!

Got to Shanksville early & it was busy with reporters, tv people, and PGR arriving from distant points.  And then we heard the rumble from over the hill, out of sight.  First came VA SC Frank Baranyai with large US flag outstretched in its full glory, followed by other flag bikes, and the cars.  A wonderful sight.

In addition to what Suzie wrote, something caught my attention as we busily got ready for Leg-2 … a reporter was looking for Bill Beck, one of our Members who belongs to the Christian Motorcyclists Assoc.  (Bill had earlier asked God’s blessing on our activities.)  Someone called out “Where’s the Chaplain?”  I liked that.  We have us a Chaplain now!

At least 3, and maybe 4 or 5 of our team were on their first mission yesterday.  Congratulations:  Labluvr, Simpleman & Ramp (and others, sorry I didn’t write down names)!  Sure was nice to have Simpleman as wing & Ramp on sweep with their CBs!  And a BIG "thank you" to the PA State Police & Ligonier Township Police Dept. for traffic control ... safety's 1st & we greatly appreciated that help!

Our Stone-Bearer, WV RC Joe Cumblidge + Empress Paula, followed me & Ramp, with Labluvr behind in the Cavalier, followed by the other 6 or 7 bikes.  What a beautiful ride through rural SW PA!  And what a humbling honor to ride in honor of the victims of 9-11-01 from the final resting place of the fighting heroes of Flight 93.  Even while focused on all the blind hilltops, driveways, and intersections, I often thought of the precious piece of history right behind us ... and all of the precious lives that were lost or altered at the same instant it was dislodged from the Pentagon building.

We arrived at the rendezvous point just inside WV at about 7:00 p.m. to jubilant raised fists, beautiful flags, and the smiles & waves of our WV brothers & sisters.  After greetings, photos, and transfer of the Memorial Stone & command of the mission to WV RC Ron Jones, most of us rode along to Cabela’s for the welcome activities and public display.  Leg-2 of Pentagon to Dodge City, KS Special Mission accomplished.

Ride on.          Joe Z

All I can add, regarding the PA leg of the mission is: it was an honor to be involved in such a historical happening. Like ultraclassic said, this stone makes one wonder about it's specific history, and is absolutely somthing that I'll never forget. It certainly gave one cause to pause and reflect on the solemnity of the occassion, and to remember those "who gave all". Also those that are currently undertaking the seldom thankful task of defending our right to life, leberty, and being secure in our homeland. Not to mention the pursuit of happiness - the right to do what we do. Both domestically and overseas.

It was a pleasure meeting all PGR members that were at Shanksville, and the WV handoff point. New friendships born out of common beliefs and shared philosophies - what better bond is there?

Susie Q, the ambassador's name is Mary Alice, and she was so grateful to the PGR for what we were doing (and what we always do), that we expressed our appreciation to her and the other ambassadors for what they do. If any of you get to Shanksville, ask for Mary Alice, she embodies the amabassadorship, and takes this all very seriously (although I imagine all of them do, she in particular is interested in the PGR mission).

God bless and grant safety to all for the rest of the mission (as well as all missions)

Hi Jimbo, I've been keeping an eye on the Missouri Regional Forum (Thanks Ladyhawk!).  There's a lot of new info on it.  Go to Forums, Regional, then Missouri and you should be able to see the thread.  If not, email me.... anya.f.ferrin@us.army.mil

No problem, Anya.  Glad to be of assistance to a sister.  Hopefully I will see you at the arch, if not maybe at the meet and greet in Sept.

Ladyhawk, I won't  make it to the Arch *stubborn bosses*  hehehe but I WILL be at Jefferson City to ride to Kansas City on 2 Sept.  How blessed it turned out we're keeping the Stone here in Missouri for a week before rolling on to Kansas!  I'm SO excited to be participating.  My first PGR ride!  I'm hoping to have a big flag mounted and EVERYTHING!!  I've invited all of the folks I ride with down here but not sure how many will be able to make the trip.  Jeff City is quite a leg from here (3 hours) but it will be SO worth it even if I have to ride up alone!

I'm watching for the specifics on that morning of 2 September.  I can't wait to meet up with everyone!  I finally feel like I can be a part of something meaningful and so important to our Country's history!  I just want to belong!!!

Hey once again, No problem.  It is a handful to type everytime.  I understand completely about work.  I may not get to do the Arch because of work either.  I don't know if you have heard but Missouri PGR is having a Meet and Greet in Columbia Sept. 23 and 24th.  It is at the Finger Lakes state park.  Might put that on your calendar as a way of meeting more of your fellow Missouri brothers and sisters.  Hope to meet and ride with you soon.  If you would like more info on the meet and greet you can email me at    ladynighthawk75@yahoo.com

HEROES

THE WORD IS USED SO FREELY THESE DAYS THAT IT SOME TIMES LOSES THE REAL MEANING ,TESTERDAY I STOOD AMONG SOME OF THE GREATEST HEROES I HAVE EVER BEEN WITH THEY LOOKED LIKE YOUR EVERYDAY CITIZEN AND IF WE LOOK AT THEM AND WATCH CLOSLEY WE WILL SEE THEM AS THEY REALLY ARE TRUE PATRIOTS .

THER WAS EVIDENCE ON THAT SITE THAT SOME WERE CHANGED IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE ,THEYMAY BE GONE BUT NEVER WILL BE FORGOTTEN WE THE LIVING HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP THEIR MEMORIES ALIVE .

I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE A PART OF HISTORY NOT JUST READ ABOUT IT ,YESTERDAY I WAS ABLE TO HAVE MY PRAYERS ANSWERED IT WAS NOT THE WAY I HAD ENVISIONED IT ,BUT GODS WAYS ARE NOT MY WAYS .

THIS GREAT NATION WAS BIRTHED BECAUSE A SMALL BAND OF PATRIOTS STOOD IN THE FACE OF INSURMOUNTABLE ODDS AND SAID WE WILL BE FREE ,THIS IS THE TIME FOR ALL PATRIOTS OF THE USA TO ONCE AGAIN SOUND THE CLARION CALL LET FREEDOM RING .

ONE NATION UNDER GOD WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.

HEROES ARE BORN HEROES DIE THOSE THAT HAVE DIED MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR THOSE THAT LIVE TO REPRODUCE .

THANK YOU PGRFOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE FOR THE CONTINUING CAUSE OF FREEDOM.

You have nothing to appologize for.  What you wrote came from the heart, and no one cares whether anything is misspelled believe me.  Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the everyday things we forget to say thank you to the ones who give so much so we can enjoy what we have.  I would love to shake your hand and call you friend.

May the Great Spirit walk with you.  Ride safe and ride free.

We arrived home from Shanksville about 9:30 pm Tuesday. I must say it was a very moving experience for both my wife and I. I've included some pictures of the passing of the stone from leg one to leg two of the journey. Hope you enjoy them. Ride safe!
