The loss of master Chief Carl Brashear touches me in more ways than I could explain. I recived the movie about his life just a few months before I had my stroke. Before I was released from the hospital to come home the Dr told my wife it would be months before I could walk again due to the partial paraylisis I had on my left side. I told him I would walk out of that hospital under my own power. The day I was released I made the nurse stop the wheelchair 50 yards from my vehicle, she protested but complied. I walked that 50 yards by myself and climbed into the van on my own. I still watch that movie when I'm feeling down or frustrated because of my limitations that still plague my life. through his story I have been inspired to push my limits and overcome my limitations.
Though I never met the man personaly his story along with that of Gunnery Sgt. Carlos Haithcock still touched my life and inspired me to push my limits and overcome the obstacles set before me. My heart goes out to Master Chief Carl Brashear's familly in their time of mourning. I only wish I could be there for his funeral to pay my respects but It is just not possible for me due to my financial situation. I will be there in spirit for sure.

At last count there are 47,920 members in the PGR. That means there are about 47,000 of us who wish so much we could be there tomorrow to escort this American Hero, but can't. We therefore look to the members who will be there to represent us all. Please pass on our respect and honor this great man, and thanks from all of us for doing so.

Respectfully,

John

Words really can't describe the sorrow that I feel when I learn of the loss of another great American Hero.  A man who faced both blatant discrimination and the loss of his own limb face to face and overcame to acheive HIS dream.  I have nothing but the greatest respect and honor for American's of Mr. Brashear's caliber.  May God extend the comfort of his love to all the loved ones of this most admirable of American warriors.

Master Chief Brashear, you are reading what is in my heart tonight. I did not serve under you, but I would have gladly done so. For you were a representative of what I learned the Navy was really about. Your leadership and example, and those fine Chiefs like you, have impacted my life in many ways.

God bless you, and hold you close.

One day we will meet Master Chief, until then, fair seas…

Condolences and prayers to the family. This man was unique. A pleasure to talk with. I had the pleasure to talk to this man one day in 2003 when I was at the hospital for an appt. I could have sat there and listen to him for hours. This gentleman will reamin a mentor and hero to a vast multitude who served, knew him or watched the movie. The Dive Locker has received the greatest and finest diver.

To the family of MCPO Brashear, my sincere and heartfelt condolences. Carl, I salute you with honor. Your story is one of struggle in a narrow minded world, and you fought and won the good fight. The world is a little darker with your passing. Rest well, my brother....

All PGR members nation wide... please take a moment of silence... and Join us in spirit... you're PGR Brothers & sisters that have converged on to Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek, Virginia Beach, VA, escort and send Master Chief Brashear to that devine Dive Locker in heaven. CW3 Phillip Brashear, USANGR said it best.... "I was there when we took his last breath.... his body stopped working... but his spirit was still there and strong."

Woody beat me to the punch. When CW3 Breashear saluted US last night, I know that I blushed - and that doesn't happen often... The Master Chief looked at peace, as well he should be; he fought the "good fight" and won. Stand tall at noon, PGR - we're all better people for having had Carl Brashear on this Earth!

I am so sad to hear of Mr. Brashear's passing. A few years ago, he visited the Norfolk Detention School during our recognition of Veteran's Day. His presence and words of encouragement touched the hearts of students and staff alike. Those attending will never forget the experience. On that day, we told him that if we ever named our school, we would want it named for him. He smiled and graciously agreed to allow us to use his name. Our plans were to complete the school naming this year in a big celebration. While some of us thought our dream of a Carl Brashear Academy was lost, others were determined to persist in the effort; one teacher even commented that it would honor him even more if it was not easy because he never looked for the easy way. Yes, we could name our school another name easily, but Mr. Brashear's story has become a part of our curriculum and we refer to it frequently to push our students beyoond what they think they can achieve. If you know how to reach the family, please contact me at Norfolk Detention School (757/892-3310). Mr.Brashear saw the potential in our students and spoke words of affirmation. His place in history is secure. His movie, Men of Honor, continues to ignite fires of hope in spite of tremendous obstacles. He never gave up, and that is the message we convey to our student--NEVER GIVE UP. May God bless and comfort his family and friends during this time of transition. Sincerely, Catherine Towler, Teacher
