| Great turnout to honor this hero - thanks to those who braved the weather to stand tall. I took this pic before the deluge...

yes what a big turnout, I want to thank all those who ride today esp those who had stood tall in the bad weather. ( I like to think of it as God crying over us, when it rains on the days of funerals) I am a family friend of Dan's and behalf his family and of the Vietnamese community I would like to give a heartfelt gratitude for all of your support and prayers. Thank you all and have a blessed Memorial Day weekend! |

You are more than welcome, vietexan. We were honored to be there for Dan and his family and friends. We all wished we could do something more to shield Dan's family and friends from the unrelenting rain. It felt terrible watching you all get soaked and not having a way to help.
Spc. Dan Nguyen was a strong man and great patriot. He will always be in our hearts and we can only hope his family and friends can come to peace with his great sacrifice. We thank you and honor you Spc Dan Nguyen.

| I am a Viet Nam vet and I fully support Johnny's decision to honor the wishes of the family to fly the Vietnamese flag. Just as this country has tried over the years to heal the open wounds with Germany, Japan, Italy and all the other Axis countries, we should let our wounds heal with Viet Nam. If I lived in another country I would expect my family to fly the American flag at my funeral. This was a Vietnamese funeral, with a Vietnamese hearse, performed at a Vietnamese temple. I think it is great that his family was able to escape tyranny and make a better life in a better land, that's the premise America was built on. Yes, Dan was an American citizen, but his familiy's culture was ingrained in him by his parents and I believe that is a noble thing. |

| To Charles (aka Stormchaser)......I, too, am a member of Soldiers Angels. I am sorry for your loss, since these soldiers begin to feel like extended family as we get to know them during their deployment. I have emailed you a few links of pictures from the service. Below is one from Houston TV station.

The weather could not have been more rainy ..... but the PGR and community turnout was awesome. Because of the weather and the Memorial weekend, I think this is one of the more touching missions I have attended.
A BIG SALUTE to all the PGR members and especially to the Road Guards and LEOs that helped us make it safely in the inclement conditions!!!! You guys rock!!!

Thank you all for being there to honor Spc Nguyen, his family and his community. You braved some terrible weather and still stood tall and silent. Unfortunately that monsoon took out my scoot with a short and I had to trailer home. I am so sorry I was not able to make it to Houston National but knew you all where in good hands with Rick.
Thank you all for your dedication to our fallen heroes. |

Yesterday was a day of change and adapt. The rain was predicted to start in late afternoon. The LEO's had an adjustment on Beechnut. The family escort was 30+ cars instead of 5. This was still ok until we entered the families street which is a culdisack. The first traffic jam of the day. When we entered the church area, I was touched deeply by the sight of all the flags. The rain started at 10:30am but passed 5 minutes later.
At the end of the church service the rain threatened again but we figured it would pass again and headed to the cemetery. Along Bissonnet a Taxi cut into the procession just after the bikes. He then stopped at a red light even though a cop walked up to his window and told him to go - he just sat there (i guess accumlating minutes on the meter). Once the light change the rest of the procession was out of sight. Then our NEW lead car did not enter the freeway at the first entrance. I pulled out and realized all PD must be with the group that had left us behind. We had one PGR road guard (Kaoz) so he and I escorted the entire remaining procession to the cemetery with the help of one recruit (thanks Larry), About 30 cars and the hearse. rain was unbelieveable at times. The toll at the FM249 exit was backed up. Then We lost the everyone but three bikes on the feeder, not sure why but we where together when a light changed, and when the arrived at the next light they were going about 5 mph. I hurried them up and there was the PD holding the traffic at the entrance to the Cemetery. They said we were about 5 minutes behind the last car of the previous group.
When we rode in the cemetery through the flag line, there was more than water in my eyes. Thank you. While at the cemetery the rain got harder and lightning started. Since all the Guests where huddled under the cover and the service had started I had the PGR put up the flags to avoid the lightning. Even with PVC poles, the water makes them conductive. Plues we are the tallest thing in a cemetery. Non of the quest noticed your depature.
I stayed at the service till it concluded and many thanked us for being there and commented how extra special our presence was because of the terrible weather. Some comment how proud they were of the seeing all the flags.
It is said that A picture was worth a 1000 words. on this mission I saw a thousand pictures that will stay with me forever.
I have now heard of two that had bike problems because of the rain. These are being repaired and no other problems have been reported. I hope this means that all got home safe. If not let me know.
I hope to see some of the Nguyen family at Fort Bend's Memorial Day celebration. If not they know that I will keep them in my prayers.

Even though this seems pretty late (about several days late, but better late than never)...I never had the perfect chance to personally thank you all for your support and for your presence for being there for the entire Nguyen family since day one. From Dan's arrival back home from Iraq, to his gloomy and very "wet" funeral, ya were there to show your support and gratitude.
I sincerely thank PGR, for your good works and for showing support not only for the Nguyen family, but also to the many other families who also lost their loved ones serving this very awesome country. Thanks again, and God bless.
Here are some pictures taken by friends and family during the wake/funeral service of PGR in action.

PS. and to mnray...less hating, and more cooperating please. (I'm vietnamese by the way, and fyi, my big brother Dan was born and raised in this free country we like to call AMERICA. Just wanted to let you know that this topic...was, still is and has always been about Spc Dan H. Nguyen, from Sugar Land, Tx, not about Mike Ray and his protesting friends. That is all.)
and thanks again PGR, keep up the good work..you're making a difference!!
