I'm pleased to see that the distinguished Patriot Guard will be present at the funeral of Lance Cpl. Hines. This fallen soldier will be given the respect and dignity he and his family deserve during this difficult time by the presence of the Patriot Guard.
God bless and ride safely!

I'd love to be able to be there in person , to stand in honor of this fine American, but work all these days. I cry with sorrow for your loss, though. I will be there in spirit, with all present, to give support, strength, and love to all. Lance Cpl. Hines is the prime example of our youth, and so I thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Hines, for raising a son, who had pride for being an American, and gave his all, for all Americans. I thank-you, Cpl. Hines, God Bless and keep you in His arms today, and your family, friends, community, as they say their farewell to you. I will say my prayer, again, because of another who gave his life for all of our freedoms and privileges we enjoy EVERY minute.

Last nite it was my honor to stand for Cpl Joshua Hines as his family came to Indpls Airport to welcome him home. My heart broke as I heard his mother crying. God Bless her and all that have the courage to know and love a soldier.
I have to also describe the courage of the riders from Illinois that attended Sgt Babb's funeral in Evansville yesterday. Then rode 3 hours to the Indpls Airport to escort Cpl Hines home another 100 miles or so. That had to have been a 20 hour day, with most of it outside in the rain and cold. Then the ride to Illinois in the dark. It is dangerous, uncomfortable, and just plain difficult to ride a bike in these conditions. I salute your courage and sacrifice. If I had not seen it with my own eyes, I'm not sure that I would believe it possible.

Subject: Services for Joshua Hines
Date: Wed, 1 Nov 2006 20:29:02 -0800 (PST)

Sean,

I wanted to send a thank you to all of you in the Patriot Guard.  A close friend of mine, Lance Corporal Joshua Hines was KIA on the 15 of October in Iraq.  The Patriot Guard was at his wake and funeral service this past Thursday and Friday in Casey, IL.  I just wanted to thank you on behalf of Joshua's friends and family.  It meant a lot to not only see the community support of Casey but also the turnout and respect of the Patriot Guard.  Thank you very much.

Brad, you did an outstanding job on the mission, I just wish I could have been there by your side and with all the others that stood strong in the rain to honor a true hero Lcpl Joshua Hines. I was glad to have the opportunity to meet his father in law while getting the mission set up, he seems like a great person also, I just wish I had the chance to meet everyone and personally give them my condolences, although I was in the hospital I was still with you all in spirt and I truely if possible would have left the hospital to be beside you all, Randy thank you for taking the escort.

To the Hines family, we know you are grieving and we all mourn with you. I just can’t believe he’s gone.  You know we are by you with the showing of Patriot Guard, the people who lined the streets between the funeral home and the cemetery. What you didn’t see was those that went out of their way to aid in the comfort of those standing with flags to make it happen. This includes the owners of the parking lots we needed (BP and IGA).

The ride through the streets of Casey, IL had the most impact.  I rode through the streets of a town I’d never been to so looking around my surroundings was busy on the eyes.   I had to concentrate on my ride, safety under the conditions, but still brief moments to give eye contact through the, rain drops on my helmet shield to those standing on the side of the street with their flags.

For me, it was a gloomy day and an early start.  It was about 125 miles and a vacation day from work to pay respect and honor to this fallen marine.  Only humbled by patriots from all over Illinois, out-of-state; some from Indiana and one from as far as California.

I didn’t feel rain soaked at all and was almost tempted to ride my motorcycle home that was brought on the trailer there by my husband and myself.  However, it was not practical and on the way back, the realization of how wet we were seemed to soak in (no pun intended).  It took awhile to watch my water wrinkled finger-tips to go back to normal after this mission.  Again, lunch resulted in a loss of appetite.

This former marine mom's highlight of the day was hugging five marines afterward.

Brad, you helped get things arranged to make it happen and I know you did it from the heart.  You are a Patriot Guard as am I and many others!

Lance Cpl. Joshua M. Hines Mission 10/25/26/27/06
.
10/25/06
Staged at BP, Rainy, cool and getting towards dark...Randy Smith Escort Ride Captain left approx 4:45 P.M. with 6 bikes including his own... Arrival back to Casey, IL after 10:00 P.M. Hearse, several family vehicles and approx 20 bikes made the arrival at the funeral home with full Police escort, fire trucks from more than 1 town and other emergency vehicles... VFWs, American Legions, other Veterans groups from several towns along with the general public lined the north main street for several blocks and many many flags... Simply wonderful outpouring of love and care by every one to the bereaved family, especially considering the time of night and then compounded by the unruly wet weather...
.
10/26/06
Visitation, PGR posted with flags from 5:00 P.M. until shortly past 8:00 PM... The weather was cool breezy, and a constant combination of mist, drizzle or sprinkling rain, it never deterred a very large number visitors...
.
10/27/06
Staged and briefed at BP according to schedule... Approx 25 bikes total, 2 support vehicles and numerous cages moved out to PGR parking area of north IGA lot... Assembled our flags and moved across to Church and formed flag lines... A quick double count of flags came up with the number 54 both times an impressive number indeed considering the constant precipitation... At 10:20 A.M. we began to shift from the Church property back to the IGA lot to begin our move to the cemetery... A double flag line was formed of PGR lining both sides of the hearses route end, also present a detachment of Marines numbering no less than 27 , Army JROTC, Bag Piper, Bugler, VFW, Marine Corp League, and other Veteran groups and many individuals... PGR presented to family of Lance Cpl. Joshua M. Hines, American Flag, Illinois State Flag, Linus Project Quilt, condolences print out from PGR website, PGR plaque, Soldiers Angels Coin...
.
This report may seem bland and emotionless as I kept my personal emotions out as not to bias or slant any thing... I assure you this was emotional roller coaster as no other for me and I'd do it again in heart beat for any family in need...
.
On behalf of Sean and myself, I'd like to thank each and every one for your patience and help with the Lance Cpl. Joshua M. Hines Mission...
.
Final word, no less than 6 Marines personally shook my hand, looked me in the eyes and expressed the most heartfelt thanks for being there and doing what we do... Each and every one of them also said to pass it on... With that my Brother and Sister Patriot Guard Riders, to you all, from the Marines "Outstanding, thank you, for doing what you do and being here"...
