Also, many general mission questions can be answered on the site’s FAQ area. Please read!
http://patriotguard.org/PGRFAQ/tabid/250/Default.aspx

Helpful Tips & Hints:
For the Ride
Sign Waiver ASAP upon arrival so you don’t hold up departure time
Staggered Formation, 1 sec / 2 sec window
Steady Throttle
Watch for Road Guards and give them room to re-enter formation

At the Mission
We are here to RESPECT above everything else.
Turn Off Cell Phones & Pagers.
Be tactful when taking pictures. Just remember, would it be appropriate at your funeral?
Do Not leave during ceremonies. Wait or get a push away and be aware of throttle
UG’s, Turn Back and ignore, PERIOD
Allow 4’ spacing between flags for uniform appearance and so you don’t whip your neighbor
Do not dip the American Flag

Be flexible as things change, work with it. And if you have a question, ask a ride captain.

Be sure to bring plenty of water, something to eat, and appropriate riding gear for the weather forecast. Also bring a 3x5 foot flag and pole (if at all possible).

‘Bring your flags, your tears and your respect.’

I plan to ride in from Papillion, NE. Are there any riders or groups riding in from the Omaha or Council Bluffs area that I may join for the ride to Le Mars? I would like to take this opportunity to express my sympathy to the family of our fallen brother and may all riders traveling on Saturday have a safe ride.

The rain stayed away and we had a smooth ride to the Sioux Falls airport. Everything went well and we were soon on our way again. The ride away from the airport was quite something. The LEO’s did an outstanding job of blocking all intersections both in an out of town. Once our wheels were turning they stayed turning all the way back to Orange City.

As we approached Inwood, IA we started to see people standing at the end of their driveways with flashlights and flags. Some just stood in the darkness but we could see them. The closer we got to Rock Valley (Willy grew up there) the more people we encountered. As we pulled into town the scene was one that makes your eyes leak. People lined both sides of the highway from one end of town to the other. For a town of 3000 I swear there were 5000 people paying their respects. Then onto Sioux Center where they had a huge illuminated garrison flag suspended over the road and many people were in the streets there also. After the casket was in the funeral home in Orange City we quietly went our separate ways. It’s very obvious Willy’s community is proud of him. For me it was another humbling experience riding with the PGR.

See you in Orange City tomorrow.

We did the escort for the remains of Pfc. Thorne last night, truly yes truly an honor to be a part of this mission. Started out with what we thought would be maybe 20 riders. PGR came through and showed their colors again, over 40 riders showed up. We gained some more and lost a few along the route but all-in-all, It stayed at right around 40 for the full detail. Clouds in the sky, forecast for rain and cool temps, but between Pfc Thorne and the big guy above, We stayed dry the whole route. Well almost dry, if you were on the mission you'd understand.  A biiiiggg thank you goes out to all the LEO's for providing support. Iowa Highway Patrol for the car that went with us all the way there and back, Sioux Falls for their escort out of town, 3 cars and 2 bikes (I got to get me some of those lights), local sherriff dept's for blacktop help and local LEO's for their support through their communities. You guys are the best.
Left Sioux Falls with a 7-bike Missing Man formation, Hearse, Family, with the rest of the bikes covering our back. As we got closer to Willie's hometown of Rock Valley you could see the support start to pick up. Families standing at the end of their farm driveways with flags out, (some in pajamas), Gravel roads with cars and people, then into Rock Valley. Had a hard time driving cuz my eyes started leaking, but when we rolled into town, to start off, a bunch of people with red-white-and blue sparklers, Then it was pretty much wall-to-wall people. I think the whole town was out lining the highway through town with Flags of all sizes. When the LEO slows yuh down to about 10mph with that support I guarantee your eyes will leak. Kudos to the town of Rock Valley for their pouring out of respect and honor for the family. Sioux Center had quite a few people too, and right in the middle of town hanging off the ladder truck was a big flag. Thanx Sioux Center FD. Made it all the way to Orange City without hitting any deer or without getting wet, still can't explain all those spots inside my glasses though. Thank you to everyone that showed up, hope we never have to do this again, but if we do I want to see all of you, and would be honored to ride with all of you again. Truly another humbling yet honorable expierience.
Until tomorrow, ride safe, and God bless.
