Joe(ultraclassic),

You are not doing a small part in this honorable mission, you are doing a HUGE part.  To go all the way up to Shanksville, and help our family in PA is not small, it is very honorable and commendable.  To give unselfishly like that is great.  Thanks so much and see ya at the transfer at the rest area.  Be careful, all coming from Shanksville.

                                                                                                       Ride safe,
                                                                                                         Ron J.

Greetings Fellow Patriot Guard Riders!

I would like to participate in this Historic Event, specifically from the hand-off at the Indiana/Illinois State Line to the St. Louis Arch. However, after reading all the threads on this post, I am somewhat confused as to what date/time the IN./IL. hand-off will be! Could someone please confirm the DATE & approximate TIME for this? Thank you.

The hand off from Indiana to Illinois will be at the I-70/IL-40 interchange, Exit 154 around 3:00 pm.  There is an old store there that is closed down.  Meeting point will be in that lot.  Make sure you are fueled up before you arrive there.  There are no services (restrooms) or fuel at this interchange. Be there no later than 2:30 pm.  Indiana may arrive early.

We are trying to arrange for the Illinois National Guard to transport the stone in a Humvee and for the Illinois State Police to escort this mission.

It will be about 80+ miles to Effingham. Media stop will be there for 20 minutes. West riders will also join up there. Exact spot in Effingham will be Exit 159 at the Citgo gas station, who's address is 1507 W. Sayette, Effingham IL.

ATTENTION ILLINOIS PGR:

I was reminded by some of our folks that thee is a time change between IN and IL.
Indiana is on EASTERN time now so the handoff (which is set for about 3:00PM) is INDIANA time, that's 2:00PM Illinois time.
I think the confusion is because the hand-off will take place a couple of miles into Illinois.  That just happens to be the best and closest spot to the line we could find.
Joe & Sean, you need to make sure your riders are aware of that so we're all on the same page here.
Sean originally suggested 2-2:30 anyway so this should work better for you to our west.

Ladies and Gents, I'm happy to announce that the journey has begun. 8 glorious and honorable riders with Suzy Q as tail-gunner pulled out of the North Parking, Pentagon at 10:11 am under a motor and cruiser escort from the Pentagon PD. It's a warm and sunny day in DC with our vets smiling down from the Great Briefing Room. After introductions and a brief blessing, the historic peice was loaded and carefully drape in red, white and blue. My heart and warm wishes are with the riders who make this honorable journey.
I have start-out photos if someone can let me know where to send them so I can share with all. God Bless the PGR and all she stands for.

Suzie Q just called at 10:35 Eastern time.  Frank Baranyai, VA SC, is leading the group, the Pentagon Memorial Stone is in the bed of Suzie's truck in a box that Frank had made with handles for easy transfer, and it's covered with Suzie's flag for the trip.

ETA at Shanksville still 3:15 to 4:00.

Joe (Zinoble).....Leaving the house now (11:20).  Couple stops along the way to rob a bank then fuel up.  Gonna take that much I'm sure....LOL!!!

Seriously, God willing, I'll arrive about the same time as you.  If not, shortly thereafter.  Any questions/problems, call my cell (304) 588-1278.

Ron and Mike...thank you for the kind words but, while trying NOT to sound argumentative here, I just feel as if I'm doing a small part of this entire mission.  While being a lengthy trip for me, it's nothing when compared to what those brave men and women endured on that fateful day almost 5 years ago.  Guess what I was meaning here was my part in this mission palls in comparison.  Again though, thank you both very much.

May God watch everyone participating in this most historic mission.

Everyone, please, RIDE SAFE!

I would like to join the riders at the St. Louis stop.  Please advise where and when riders will meet up on the 25th in St. Louis.  I'm looking forward to my first ride with the PGR.  I have at least one more rider who would also like to roll along through the Missouri thread.  Please forgive me if I'm in the wrong place, but I'm just a tad confused.

Hello all I recieved a phone call from "Suzy Q" at approx. 1:00p.m. Central time, she advised that the stone is in route to Shanksville, they had a small ceremony this mornigr and the stone was blessed by an Airforce Chaplain. Suzyy Q has her personal flag draping the stone during transport, after this mission she will retire this flag. As i understand it the next flag will be one that was actually in Iraq from one of our ladies in the Military. I'm not sure if that flag will stay with the stone but if someone has a special flag they would like to send with the stone through your state please do.

Frank called my cell about 5:15 pm. The handoff in Shanksville, PA took place approx 4 pm. He estimated the next stop, Wheeling, WV should occur between 6 and 6:30 pm. I apologize for the late post but I just got home from work. He mentioned the media being there and a very nice ceremony. The cell connection was terrible but Frank sounded extremely ecstatic about today's events.

Dodge City is tremendously appreciative of your help and support for this project. I have heard from a several of different folks that are on the 'crusade' today and it sounds amazing. I would very much like to be along for the entire experience. Everyone has stated that it is has been a moving experience.

Photos... feel free to please upload them to the site to share with everyone. Additionally, those of you willing to burn them off or upload them to me at ryanc@dodgecity.org or City of Dodge City, attn: ryan carpenter, po box 880, Dodge City, Kansas 67801 I am the others here onboard with the project would appreciate it. We plan to use the photos in a weathered kiosk that will be added to the Liberty Garden site in the future for people to view and see the creation of this amazing memorial.

Other item.... Our official dedication and 9/11 memorial ceremony will be Monday, September 11, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. in Liberty Garden at Wright Park, Dodge City, Kansas. Any and all of you are welcome to attend the ceremony as you have played a tremendous part in the timeline and history of this process. Further information about the event will be forthcoming.

One more point... as your photos come in we plan to temporarily place them on our Liberty Garden site which is at http://www.visitdodgecity.org/attractionsfolder/libertygarden/liberty.html. This site will update periodically over the course of the next two weeks. We will also keep you posted on that.
