THE YOUNG DEAD SOLDIERS DO NOT SPEAK
Nevertheless they are heard in the still houses: who has not heard them?
They have a silence that speaks for them at night and when the clock counts.
They say, We were young. We have died. Remember us.
They say, We have done what we could but until it is finished it is not done.
They say, We have given our lives but until it is finished no one can know what our lives gave.
They say, Our deaths are not ours: they are yours: they will mean what you make them.
They say, Whether our lives and our deaths were for peace and a new hope or for nothing we cannot say: it is you who must say this.
They say, We leave you our deaths: give them their meaning: given them an end to the war and a true peace: give them a victory that ends the war and a peace afterwards: give them their meaning.
We were young, they say. We have died. Remember us.

Mombowman and I are hoping to be a part of the run from Princeton to Aledo. We are new at this, but with the experience, and encouragement, of our 4 sons, we look forward to this mission. We will be on 4 wheels, not 2.

Our deepest sympathy to the Tharp family. And Thank You Jerry, for what you have given to attain the freedom we all enjoy.

If any of the McHenry county folks are planning on participating, and are interested in riding to O'hare as a group, let me know the when & where. At this point (it depends upon the time) I am not sure if I will go as far as Princeton & come back or go all the way to Aledo - with work committments, looks like it may be the shorter version.  This mission really hits hard... my Dad was a SeaBee (reserves) until he retired at the age of 60.  My Dad taught me to ride.

PRINCETON, Il RALLY POINT INFO

To all that are interested in the Escort Mission. Word has come that the flight will arrive at Ohare at 18:28 hrs. We are scheduling the rally point in Princeton, Il for 20:30 hrs at the latest. We will probably be waiting for the family and the hearse for a bit but WE DO NOT WANT TO BE LATE FOR THIS. Greg and I will be there before 20:00 hrs to line things up. The bikes will use the front parking lot on the west side between the 2 driveways for staging. The family will use the back conference room of the restaurant as their waiting point.

Remember, this is where the Tharp family will be meet the flag draped casket for the first time. Respect, honor, dignity are of the greatest importance here. I know it's a truck stop, but treat it as if this was one of your own family members.

Please keep an eye on this thread as any changes will be posted here as soon as they are known

Thanks to all, Mike Bowman

Escort From Ohare...........THIS IS FINAL (unless I need to change it in the future)

Those wishing to join the escort from the Ohare area, are asked to meet at our staging area. The Park Ridge VFW, located at 10 W. Higgins Rd. Park Ridge Il 847-825-4588

Staging time between 17:30 and 18:00 hrs.....

PO1 Tharp is expected to arrive at 18:28 hrs, and I'm expecting the hearse to arrive NLT 19:00 hrs our location...although this is a variable....

The VFW will be open, so if you show up a little earlier, you can go inside and relax in air-conditioning....

Please have your tank filled on arrival our only gas stop is a little over 100 miles in Princeton Il.

If you will be joining us, please be experienced in Night riding in a Pack. We will be traveling at highway speeds between 65 and 75mph. If your flying large flags, please make sure they are secure and can take that type of punishment. Test them out if you haven't ran for any distance at those speeds. Accidents do happen, and flying flags and poles is not something a pack on scoots needs to deal with.

4 wheels are also welcome to run behind the pack and hearse.

If you have any questions, my cell phone number is 847-217-1862

Currently the weather looks like it will cooperate.......

As with any Escort Mission, last minute changes are sometimes necessary. Please check this thread prior to heading out tomorrow for last minute updates.

P.S. Please stop e-mailing me with requests for permission to ride, if you feel that your qualified, please join us.

Respects,
Ed

Escort Mission Questions and a few answers - Ed is correct, you don't have to ask us to be there but there are some qualifications that you should know. The 8 bikes that will lead the hearse are chosen but anyone can ride in the escort. BUT, BE AWARE that this is close quarter, 2x2 formation at interstate speeds for the ENTIRE trip till we exit the interstate. If you feel that you are an experienced and qualified rider you can join in. If close riding conditions at high speeds are a problem then this is probably not for you. No one will think the less of you. Make sure your flage are all sturdy, strong, and tested for interstate speeds. I have followed a 3x5 flag at 80mph for 100 miles before and if I wasn't sure the mount was solid I would have had a problem. We have lost flags and mounts before and they are a real problem for the bike behind you in close quarter riding.

Thanks, Mike Bowman
