Terry,

I gotta work some in the AM, and Betty has to doctor sick sheep, then we'll head out.

sc99p, your schedule is workable, we were leaning towards the 123 route also, hate the super slabs.

cannoncl, if you wanna join up, give us a call, 210-710-8420 Jerry, 210-325-6199 Betty.

Talavera, we can work it out somehow, call in.  We could meet up with anyone in the Floresville area, or hook into George West, even Beeville.

sandojo1, don't know where you're coming in from, but there's always room for more.

Bettys' just back from the City Council, lots left to do tonight, don't worry about calling late.

Posting this since it's late and I don't know when web coordinator will be able to set at head of this thread:: apologies if I've crossed a line....

Preliminary Itinerary for Pfc Kristian Menchaca-June 28th 1000am at Brownsville Special Events Center, 1 Event Center, Brownsville,Texas

Staging: Beginning 0800 hrs til kickstands up at 0930.. Jr's Restaurant 5250 Paredes Line Road. Breakfast menu available, I'm buying the coffee.

Safety Briefing @ 0915, release/liability forms available for any who have not signed one previously.

Kickstands up at 0930- straight short ride further down Paredes Line Road to the events center. Will be an obvious right hand turn into the complex, in case you run late and come in after 0930.

Services begin at 1000 hrs at the Events Center. I've had some problems getting in touch with someone who can direct me where they want us to be, was given the phone # for the LEO in charge. Failing that, I'm going to be in the PD office before noon Tuesday to get some info on where they want us to be to avoid any confusion on site Wednesday am. By tomorrow afternoon I should be able to say where we are to be and how we are going to be in procession from Event Center to cemetary.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy. High 93F. Winds E at 10 to 20 mph.

Thursday: A few thunderstorms possible. Highs in the low 90s and lows in the mid 70s.

Dress for the weather, be aware we've had some pop up rains not predicted in the forecasts for the last day or so.

Keep up on the hydration- I'm planning to have a cooler at the Event Center with water/gatorade iced for us.

Get here safely, be it on 2 wheels or 4! Extra flags if you have them, please.

Directions to Staging::

Come down Hwy 77 into Brownsville.. Take the Alton Gloor exit and keep your left lane to turn left and under the overpass. Alton Gloor will intersect Paredes Line Road with traffic lights.

Turn right onto Paredes Line, Jr's restaurant is on the left immediately after the Paredes Line/Alton Gloor intersection. Manager is aware of PGR staging. We need to park on the Northern side between the car sales lot and the restaurant.

For those coming in on Tuesday night: per suggestion, arrangements have been made to save space for a get together/naming faces at CobbleHeads restaurant 3154 Central Boulevard. The restaurant is located at the end of the Motel 6 parking lot. Should be enough parking at the restaurant proper, I will check w Motel 6 about possibly taking up a couple spaces at the end of their lot for anyone local who would like to come if the parking is full for the restaurant proper..

Directions to CobbleHeads: Come down Hwy 77 past Alton Gloor to Ruben Torres exit. Turn right at the intersection light, turn left on Central (very short 1/4 or less block between light and Central intersection). Restaurant is immediately past the Motel 6 parking. They even have a sidewalk connecting the parking to the restaurant.

Paula (Keeper) and all the South Texas riders, our prayers for a safe mission go with you.  The vast size of our state becomes so evident when we think about the distance between us (519 miles from my house to 1 Event Center).  But as Texans we all feel a closeness when called upon to ride for a fallen hero.

To the Menchaca family, thank you for allowing PGR to honor you and Kristian.  May God hold you close in this time of sorrow and give you peace.

27 Jun 2006 7:28 AM Alert
Here's my schedule for the day:

1000: Depart my office
1000-1030: REI for new Camelback bladder
1030-1100: Run by house to let dogs out and grab my bag.
1100: KSU from my driveway in west Austin.
1245-1300: Arrive at first fuel stop at junction of HW281 and I-37.
~1300-1330: wait for any other riders who want to meet. 1330: KSU from first fuel stop. 1330-??: I'll have to plan on the fly from that point, depending on how many (if any) other riders I join up with.

But I'll probably stop every 75-100 miles-or-so for a leg stretch and at least every 140-150 miles for fuel.

 _______________________

My goal is to get south of San Antonio and onto I-37 as quickly as possible, as I think I-37 is probably the best route to link up with other southbound riders. I'm just going to take the direct route through SA (I-35 S to to the 410 Loop, to I-37 S).

I plan on stopping at the junction of HW 281 and I-37, which is just south of Pleasanton (and just south of where SR 97 intersects with I-37), which is exactly 121 miles from my house in Austin. I'm not certain what gas stations are at that exit (between mile markers 102 and 103 on I-37), so I'll stop at the first one on the right after marker 102, which is SR 199/Leal Rd.

My cell for anyone that wants to reach me and arrange to meet on the road is: 512-785-3472 Robbie "Rooster" Cooper.

Just spoke with Jerry from New Braunfels --- they are taking a backroads route and will get a little later start than I am.

I'm going to ride a leisurley pace (with a lunch stop somwhere south of SA), and plan on meeting up with them in Kingsville at the junction of 141 and I-37 (they'll be cutting over from HW281).

I'll arrive in in Kingsville between 1530-1630, and if I'm there before Jerry & Betty and their group, I'll grab a cold Gatorade and wait on them for a while, and then make the last 120 miles down to Brownsville with them.

Fueling past Corpus,,,, Kingsville is about 40-50 miles past CC area, Rivera is another 20 or so past Kingsville,,
Nothing past Rivera for ~50-60 miles til you hit Raymondville
County officer tends to sit and watch traffic between Sarita and the next 10 miles below Sarita.
Been alot more DPS and Sheriffs on 77 lately,,, don't hook and book too hard and end up w a sample of DPS handwriting!

In the evening,,, WATCH out for deer!!

Usually I end up refueling in Rivera and make Harlingen without gas worries... Harlingen is ~20 miles above Brownsville.
