Diverdan, at Rittiman on the east side of San Antonio, Loop 410 and I-35 are all one road running north and south. The sports bar will be inside the loop, west of the intersection of
I-35/Loop 410 and Rittiman. If you need better directions or have any other questions, feel free to email me direct. I spent 9 LONG years in San Antonio. My email is in my signature line.

Wish I could be there for this one but it's another day off that I'm having to work.

ALL RIDERS!! Please stay hydrated. There are some members coming in cages so if ya'll can work something out to have water available there, please utilize the assistance. Wear sunblock, stay as cool as possible. Take care of each other. Remember, we're family.

Is there anyone who is meeting at Waco HD and going from there. I intend to make this as my first mission with the PGR. I have several options from where I live. If no one is leaving from Waco, I will cut across and meet the Killeen group. I am a paramedic and will be carrying basic med supplies .....just in case.

My condolences to the Funkhouser family and I am standing ready to honor this fallen hero.

Rick, MuddyDuck will be the stand-in Ride Captain for the Austin area members as carrington and myself are both unable to attend. I received an email from him last night stating he should be able to post staging information for Austin area some time today. As soon as I see the info, I'll make sure it gets posted here and gets forwarded to all the Austin area riders who are on the email list. If you're not on the list yet, forward me your info (name, location, email) and I'll see that it gets added asap.

To any other Austin area riders/members, if you want to be added to the Austin area email list for these types of updates, email me your info and I'll get it added. My email address is in my signature at the bottom of this post.

Final Itinerary for the Patriot Guard Mission to honor Cpt. James Funkhouser, Katy, TX Service in: San Antonio Tx.

This is the final itinerary for the Patriot Guard Mission to honor Capt. James Funkhouser, Katy TX, who made the ultimate sacrifice in Baghdad, Iraq. The mission is a 'go' and all contacts have been made.

Services: The service will be graveside at the Ft. Sam National Cemetery Pavilion #4

Time: 08:30 9 June 2006

Ride Captains: Terry Smith (Hawgr60) and Brad Pierce (Hawkeye62). Their cell numbers are (210) 355-2647 (Hawgr) and (210) 391-3151 (Hawkeye).
Staging Site and Time: From 0730 to 0800 hours at Stacy’s Sports Bar (1033 Rittiman Road) parking lot. Located on the north side of Rittiman Road, Stacys Sports Bar is 1.3 miles west of I 35 (EXIT 164A) in San Antonio, TX.

Weather Report: Mostly Sunny with a morning low 72 and a daytime high of 99 degrees. However, this is Texas and the weather is subject to change. Dress accordingly with copious amounts of sun block for your own protection, and hydration is of the utmost importance so bring water.

Bring flag poles and flags if you have them. Flags mounted on bikes would be great, but if you have to "cage" it, bring your big flags anyway, plus any extras that you may have.
From this location it is less than a 5 minute ride into the cemetery. KSU 0800 following safety Brief

Departure : All members are requested to complete the Liability Releases prior to safety briefing. The safety briefing will begin at 0750 hrs. Departure (KSU) from staging point will commence at 0800 hrs. All bikes will present a uniform appearance as we ride approximately 1mile to the Cemetery in a staggered formation.

Please note: Remain flexible as to mission requirements during the day.

Please remember that our mission is to honor this fallen soldier and pay our respects to his family. Stand tall and be proud as we salute an American hero.

Let’s all be safe and let the PGR stand tall and proud, RANGERS Lead The Way!

Austin Area PGR: After talking to Hawgr60 a few minutes ago, we'll need to stage at Cabela's in Buda at 0530 (if you want breakfast or coffee come earlier) and go KSU NLT 0600. If you're Southbound on I-35 and need gas exit at 221, if not continue over the overpass and take Exit 220 (Niederwald) right on the southernmost end of over pass in front of HEB. You can't miss Cabela's. If you're going North on I-35, take Exit 221 (Niederwald). Conitnue on service road thru the first light. When you get to the second light, make sure you're in the far left lane and double under the overpass to the left and stay on service road. Can't miss Cabela's. FYI: there is a Mickey D's on the East side of I-35 but you have to take Exit 221 for that if you're Southbopund. If not, there is a Sonic, Jack in the Crack and Cracker Barrel at exit 220, but I have no idea what time they open.

Weather: Sunny with a low of 70 and a high of 99. Use of sun block (30-45) STRONGLY recommended, not to mention drinking and carrying a lot of water (Gatorade and Powerade are great). If you are not used to excessive heat (the trip back will be warm), you may want to consider caging it.

Route to San Antonio: We will take I-35 South to Rittiman Rd (Exit 164A)and go right approx. 1.3 miles to Stacy's Sports Bar, which is just before Harry Wurzbach and arrive prior to 0800 for final staging. This is about a 58 mile ride, so we should have ample time.

I will be there, and will be bringing the Director of the Texas Military Family Foundation, her flag, US Flags, and coolers of ice and bottled water.  I have a 3/4 ton pick up and will offer truck bed space for gear and supplies or equipment.

I have written articles about Capt. Funkhouser, and want to be a part of the final ride with him and join you in helping the family see him there with the dignity and grace he deserves from all of us.

Houston Itinerary to travel to San Antonio for services for Captain James Funkhouser of Katy Texas 6/9/06.

SE Texas PGR,

Captain Funkhouser’s services are a long distance away but he is from our community. Please join us as we travel to pay our respects for this American Hero who was killed in the bombing that killed two CBS camera men in Iraq.

This will be a long hot journey, be sure you and your bike are up to it. We will be traveling there at the surrounding traffic flow rate in a staggered formation at 2 second intervals; you need to be able to keep pace for the safety of the group. If we have over 20 riders will break into two platoons.

Cages are welcomed but must travel behind the bikes; a trail vehicle (with an ice chest) would be nice to have on this mission. For those who will be traveling the day before to the services, we will meet you there.

Houston Staging Area: Loves Truck Stop, 612 Pederson Road, Katy TX. Exit 737 Just on I-10 north side past the Waller County line. See  Map

Date: Friday June 9

Time: 4:30AM KSU 4:45AM Sharp!

Travel Distance: 162 Miles

Travel Time: 2.4 Hours
We will make one 15 minute fuel stop break around the 90 mile mark. ETA to the San Antonio staging area is 7:30AM.

Return Trip: We will break on the hour on our return ride as it will be much warmer. Please stay hydrated! If the traffic is heavy on I-10, I will poll the returning group on if we will stay on I-10 or take Hwy 90 back.

Houston Ride Captain: JohnnyD

Weather Report- Hot and then hotter! Bring alots of water and sunscreen. Start drinking lots of water the night before. As we are leaving eary Friday, get a good nights rest tonight.

All times are now final.

Watch this tread on the PGR web site:

Please respond if you will be traveling with us via my e-mail as we honor this fallen hero.
