Fellow PGR members, I'm proud to say this is my first ride, to Spc. Gebor's family I'm also mournful for your loss, and want to thank you for your sacrifice. I will be at the meeting place @ 7 am. I will be in an old pickup truck, that can carry 4-5 people if anyone needs a ride I'll gladly accommodate your request. Also I'll bring a cooler full of icewater, hopefully I can find several cups just incase someone needs water. If anyone has an extra 3x5 ole glory I'd be honored if I could wave her with pride for this occasion.

Choctaw Warrior,

Since we are staging in the soft ground a placard would be a piece of wood or plexiglass or some other material which gives your kickstand a larger footprint. Therefore you don't sink down.

WOW!! what an amazing patriotic experience, I'm so proud of this wonderful group. Just finished Spc. Gebur's ride and let me tell you it was hard driving with wet eyes, and I drove a truck, the entire 20 mile route was full of flags, and thank you Ron signs, the citizens of Pekin and Delavan should be damn proud of themselves. This was my first mission and it will leave an eternal memory of TRUE AMERICAN PRIDE in my mind. Seeing the county road commissinor with a flag mounted on top of his road grader and a sign of thanks and support, all the worker of several local factories taking time off to stand by the road to pay respect with flags and signs, and the lady who was on a paint horse and the end of her drive with a 3x5 flag raised as high as she could reach. Spc. Gebur this was all just for you for all you have done for us. GOD bless you and your family.

Chris, Max, Joe it was great to get to put a face to your name. I don't remember the names of all the folks I met but I know I'll never forget what you've done.

I really wanted to make it to this one since it was right here in Pekin, but life got in the way. I have a misbehaving 3 year old and thought it best to stay home with her since I had no babysitter. The last thing I would want is to have her interrupt something like this!! I heard you all did a beautiful job though, a friend of ours whose son played hockey with Ron was at the funeral and said it was amazing to see you all there. I also saw that you made the front page of the Pekin paper for being at the visitation. I will watch the paper tomorrow and see what it has. If anyone would like a copy please email me. I hope we never have something like this in Pekin again, but if we do I feel proud knowing you all will be there!!! I hope you all make it home ok, fair winds and following seas!!

Thanks again,
Laura

Chris,

Your mission report was very eloquently put. You and your captains did an outstanding job organizing the mission. I can see in your son that you have inspired him and he will make you proud just as the sons of those we honor have made their parents. I believe the first time I met you was in Virden when you rode in as most of us caged in and stood in the snow. Your dedication is to be admired and is appreciated.
Chris, Max and Rose are an inspiration to all of us. Thanks to the Gerbur family for letting us be there to show our respect. Thanks to all those who thanked us, unnecessary but appreciated.

Proud to ride with you all,

Honoring 'a fallen hero'

Friends, family remember fallen Delavan soldier

Wednesday, May 24, 2006

By KAREN McDONALD of the Journal  Star

Army Spc. Ronald "Ron" Gebur was a superhero who chose to use his strength for good. He warmed people's hearts and had this light in his eyes, his sister, Camille Gebur, wrote in a letter that was read Tuesday during his funeral in Pekin.

He was a one-of-a-kind friend with a big heart, dependable and stood up for what he believed in, his best friend, Court Houston said during services.

Gebur, 23, died May 13 when an explosive device blew up near his Humvee during a patrol in Baghdad, according to the Pentagon. His acquaintances, friends and family said they will remember him as an all-American hero.

"God gave him 23 years on this earth. There are people given 100 years who could not accomplish what all Ron Gebur did for us," Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn said during Tuesday's services, where a general also presented his widow, Bethany, with a Purple Heart and several other medals.

Gebur, formerly of Delavan, liked to do the guy stuff. He enjoyed fishing, four-wheeling, golf, hockey, baseball and building fires, family members said. He graduated from Delavan High School in 2002 and married Bethany in August 2003.

Bethany Gebur's mother, Karen Boswell, said the couple had a "fairy-tale love" that made others enviable.

Ron and Bethany Gebur and their 9-month-old son, Gage, had been living at Fort Hood, Texas, since February. There, Ron Gebur was assigned as a platoon leader and sniper with the U.S. Army 4th Infantry Division. His unit was sent to Iraq in December for a tour of duty.

"Ron wanted so badly to make a difference," Boswell said during the funeral.

Brandon Marmion has known Gebur for about five years and said he will remember his permanent smile and unselfish demeanor. "He's someone you could count on - a fun person to be around," said Marmion, a former Pekinite who drove from Tennessee to attend the funeral.

About 50 people stood outside Woolsey Funeral Home holding American flags as guests arrived, although most of them did not personally know Gebur. They represented the Patriot Guard and Soldier's Angels, both organizations that support U.S. troops.

"We're out here for honor and respect and to show our support," said Patriot Guard member Jim Wood of South Pekin.

Glenda Spinner drove from Assumption, south of Decatur, to Pekin to represent Soldier's Angels. "It feels good, but sad at the same time because it's a fallen hero," Spinner said.

A graveside ceremony at Orendorff Cemetery near Hopedale included a gun salute and an honor guard. Bethany Gebur, a U.S. Army medic dressed in uniform, saluted her husband and sobbed as his casket was carried from a vehicle to the grave.

"He was a good man, a strong person, a loving a caring father, husband, brother and son," sister Camille Gebur said. "We will never forget the way he made us all laugh, love and hope for a safer tomorrow."

Received this card from the Gebur Family Oct 2006

Received this card from the Gebur Family Oct 2006:

To All Patriot Riders,

We just want you all to know, as we approach our son Ron's birthday (2 Oct), the days were becoming a little more difficult. You again, gave us hope and strength and we want to thank you all for being here for us on that Sunday, 1 Oct, 2006.  We just loved you all being present at our home, to give us the flag case. Thanks You Again!  Also, we will always remember what you did the day of our son's funeral. This was the saddest day of our lives, but the patriotism was such a beautiful act of kindness and this truly touched each and everyone present. I Do Believe!!!

Thank you kindly,

Larry, Deb and Camille Gebur

I was there, and must say, I was so very very proud to be there. I am not a veteran, I am not in a branch of service, but I have a brother, and many many friends in the service. Every day I know I may loose one of them, and I feel proud to know that there are people out there that will support them without having known them, like I did this day.

when there is so much negative media, when there is so much misunderstanding and confusion, it's good to have groups like this, that stand up for what is right, but do it with respect and class.

I am proud of me, and many things, but most of all, I am proud to be American, and Proud to ride with you all.

In my previous post, I stated that we had a awesome responsibility as Patriot Guard Riders.  Little did I know that later, that evening, that responsibiity would grow even greater.

My son, 7, has 1 day left of school, so he was bring things home for mom and I to look at.  He pulled a picture out of him standing next to an old man in a wheel chair.  I asked him where he got the picture from.  He stated, "Well dad, since I am not old enough to go with you a patriot missions, I thought that I could do something for our troops.  I went to the Soldier and Sailors home and gave a vet some flowers that he liked."  Talk about touched.  Has the missions for Sgt Harper, Spl Wright, Lcpl Price, Sgt Pinson, CWO Hartwick, Lcpl Settle, Lcpl Lasswell, CWO Donaldson, and Spc Gebur cause me to not see how proud he was to be an American and how appreciative he was of our heros?

Man...did I miss the boat or what?  These heros moved me, which moved him to do his part to honor and respect.  My little boy was soon growing to be a man, American....a Patriot Guard Rider.  He will be with me at the "Gathering of the Guard".  I honor him.
Makes me also very proud of your son and you Chris. Look out he will want his bike soon.

What an emotionally draining day.  I know our hearts sink when we get news of a fallen hero but when we add the faces of the family; my heart sinks even more.  One of the Army NCO's thanked me for our honors and shook my hand.

I too was impressed at the lady holding a flag on the horse as we drove the rural procession.  The cemetery was on the wide-open plain open to the welcoming skies.

Thanks to all those who did back-to-back missions within the last 5 days. It was nice to see your smiling faces again (Uhhh mournful faces I mean).  Thanks Lloyd for staggering with me.  Thanks Joel for all you've done with LE support.

Blessings to all in attendance.

it was definately an experience that I will never forget. It was my first time and also my girlfriends. It really was hard to hold back the tears as your riding and you see people on the side of the roads with their hands on their chest looking in awe....It would be nice to never have to do another mission like this, but if there is one, i'll do my best to be there...

does anybody know how soon pictures will be up?

RIDE REPORT for Specialist Ronald W. Gebur, Delavan, IL 23 MAY 06:

Once again, we gathered to honor a hometown hero.  Ronald left behind a loving wife, adorable son, parents that loved him, and other family members that held him close.  Ron also left 1 other thing behind.  85 Patriot Guard Riders with the ability to say, “Thank you Ron and the Gebur family for your service to our country.”

I left Quincy at 4 am with many thought running through my head.  In our day-to-day lives we move from priority to priority and some don’t even faze us.  Our daily lives take on an ordinary presence.  This day would be different.  All my priorities were for the Gebur family.  I even forgot to call my wife to wake her up and take our son to school.

What an awesome responsibility we have, as Patriot Guard Riders, to honor our fallen and be there in the family’s time of need.  This mission responsibility cannot be taken lightly and is held in reverence.  Today I witness 65 bikes, 6 cages and 85 riders that took on that responsibility with humility in their hearts and a sense of purpose.  The faces all showed true concern that this day of remembrance would not be marred with signs of hate or words of vile filth.  They were prepared to honor, respect and shield.  My riders, my PGR fellow brothers and sisters were a wall of strength and the flags held high were a barrier that could not be penetrated.  Each and every one of you made me proud to be a Patriot Guard Rider in the State of Illinois.

Our rally was strong and our brief ride to the funeral home was…brief.  Each of you took a flag from TOP’s (Max) van.  Your procession around the funeral home, encircling it with red, white and blue was eye catching.  To the young scouts that held our honor flag high, and never waiver, thanks for holding Old Glory high.

Inside the home, I offered our condolences and handed her the Patriot Guard Rider plaque that was made to honor Ron.  She came out and wanted to shake each riders hand.  Many offered hugs.  One rider couldn’t turn around for the tears in his eyes.  I saw it.  You are a patriot sir.  After she greeted each rider, she took me to meet the cuties little thing (their son).

She went back inside and we stood guard over this family.  The Lieutenant Governor arrived and I presented him with a “Mission Accomplished” pin and proclaimed him a Ride Captain for the PGR.  It was his direct efforts that allowed us to ride with fear for this family.

When they brought Ron out, each rider held their flags high and stood at attention.  A small, yet fitting, tribute to this hometown hero.  As we escorted Ron to his final resting place, you could see the vets, wives, husbands, children, fathers, mothers and others come to the roadside and pay their respects as well.  We even had a Patriot Guard Rider (faux) on a horse standing guard on the road to Ron’s final resting place.  His hometown turned out to remember their fallen son and brother.

At the cemetery, we stood in honor and mourned our loss.  As the scout folded Ron’s ride flag and Joel presented it to Ron’s wife, I choke up.  This woman loved his man.  There will never be another Ron….for any of us.

To LT Lowe, SGT Dickson, County Market of Pekin, Concorde Inn and Suites, the Pekin and Tazewell County officers (you too Chief), City Council, Woolsey Funeral Home, my fellow Illinois Ride Captain (Rose), the Soldiers Angels, Sgt Koslowski and especially my co-captain in-training (Joel) and his family…thank you for all of your assistance to this family and my riders.

This mission, as each has, touched my heart again and made me thank God I am an American.  Thank you Ron for allowing me to enjoy my freedoms and rights.

Thank you to the family and friends of SPC Ronald Gebur for inviting us to join you on such a beautiful day to honor your soldier and our local hero. My thoughts and prayers are still with you and may the gracious arms of the creator wrap you in his warmth during this time of sorrow.

Thank you to the local citizens for your turn out, it was an awesome sight to see. A local hero could not have asked for better welcome home. The citizens of Delavan, the AMVETS of Pekin, and the many business that took time out to stand by the road and honor the fallen.

Thank you to all the local media (television and radio) for you support of the fallen and your turn out. It will be interesting to see what the newspapers have to say tomorrow. As soon as local media updates their sites to include the evening news, I'll post links.

Thanks to "Top" for bring the flags, as always above and beyond the call of duty.

Thanks to our ride captain (Chris) and assistant ride captain (Joel) for a wonderful ride. While I hope we don't have to ride together for another fallen soldier, it would be a pleasure to ride with you again soon. Please keep us posted about the escort ride in mid-June of our returning soldiers.

Thanks to the Soldiers Angles, your contribution is always welcome.

Thanks again to the Pekin AMVETS for the get together and chow after the ride.

And to all the other guard members, it was a pleasure even thought I didn't get to met you all.

I didn't get many photos, I was too busy paying my respect to our local hero. Photos below.

Chris and crew Stand Tall man, you men did one heck of a job. I'm proud to have stood with you guys (I hope I never have to do it again, however I'm standing by if needed.) I was listening to 1470AM radio on the way home and they did a wonderful coverage on the services. The only mention of the PGR was stated at the end that we rode in the procession. I'm greatful that they kept all focus on our hero and they did do him justice. This station had one of their press people standing out by us at the funeral. With all the media I was worried the focus would go to PGR and not Spc. Geber, however that was not the case at least on the AM radio station. I can't remember the fellow from Pekin who assisted you but Great Job my friend.
GOD Bless & Stand Tall
Rod

"To Care For Him Who Shall Have Borne The Battle" - Abraham Lincoln

President Abraham Lincoln stated in the Gettysburg Address:

"From these honored dead we take increased
devotion to that cause for which they here gave the last full measure of
devotion - that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in
vain."

Dying for Freedom isn't the worst that could happen...BEING FORGOTTEN IS
