I wish to express my deepest gratitude to the Marion family for allowing the Patriot Guard to participate in honoring their son. The escort to bring Adam home from the airport this morning is something that I will never, ever, forget.
I never had the pleasure of meeting Adam, but I knew for a fact that he was a fine young man, willing to face danger to make the world a better place, a patriot and a hero. After meeting his gracious parents and sister at the airport, I understood even more about him.
But the true revelation was from the participation of the entire Surry County, NC. As soon as we crossed the county line on the highway, there were vehicles stopped and people standing at every on-ramp, with flags and salutes and their hands over their hearts. I lost count of how many bridges we crossed under where a family or a couple dozen people were hanging a BIG American flag over the side, for the family to see. There were "Welcome Home Adam" signs and "We love you Adam" signs. Even vehicles coming THE OTHER DIRECTION on a 4-lane divided highway stopped, many people got out and stood at attention as the LEO escort and the bikes with flags and the hearse with our hero came by. I believe that every Law Enforcement Officer and every Fire & Rescue person in the county was at one intersection or another along our route, standing at attention and paying their respects. When we went through the towns of Mount Airy and Dobson, the streets were lined with people and flags, businesses emptied and the employees and patrons were all out at the street. There were red-white-and-blues bows on EVERY telephone pole along the route in Dobson, Adam's hometown.
This is small-town America, a rural county at the edge of the mountains. Patriotism lives! Fine young people still step up with a sense of duty, honor, country, and gratitude. I've never been so proud to be an American as I was today. |

| I arrived at Landmark Aviation around 7 am this morning, for an airport it was quiet, light wind blowing and one of my favorite times of day. As I waited for my Brothers and Sisters of the PGR to arrive I had a while to ponder to what the day was about to hold .The Hearse arrived and a gentleman stepped out and greeted me who was a personal friend of the Marion family .He spoke of what a incredible young man Adam is and how he was so eager to serve his country and just wanted to” Make a difference". As I stood in the flag line holding my flag When Adam s plane landed I could not contain my tears .I just wish that their was something I could do to help ease his families hurt .Well as I rode in the envoy to escort Adam back to the Fine town of Dobson NC I have never seen or felt such a since of gratitude and patriotism in my life .When we crossed the Surry county line Proud Americans were everywhere showing their support for this Hero and his Family .The over passes covered with families waving Flags ,Holding signs ,and wiping tears . Volunteer Fire departments blocked exits and stood paying respect to Adam as well as Law enforcement from every county we passed through. When we arrived in Downtown Dobson I was not prepared for what I seen through my tears, It looked as the entire community was lining the streets.”INCREDIBLE" I hope that the display of respect shown today from all of these people helped to ease the pain of the Marion Family and I pray for you all. Your son will always hold a special place in my heart as a HERO and will never be forgotten .I thank you for allowing me to ride and "HONOR" Your Son, And finally Pfc. Adam L. Marion, Worry not Brother "You made a Difference” Much Respect Rick Rohme, Jamestown NC |

| I would like thank the Family for allowing me and the PGR to ride and honor their Son. It is hard to ride a bike and cry and wipe tears after seeing people stopping on the side of the road and stand by their cars and in Dodson to pay respect for Adam. I am the one that said about the foam on the sunglasses that stops tears from running down your face. So, I guess I need to go get my sunglasses back on. Adam "You made a Difference" |

| I too would like to express my thanks to the Marion family for allowing the PGR to participate in Adam's homecoming. After riding in what appeared to be too many mission rides and standing in too many flag lines of late, along comes this one. Frankly, I have felt a bit hardened, a bit worn, and tired. But, having witnessed the flow of love and respect displayed for this young American Hero by those of his home community and more, I can say none of the previous rides have tired me as much as this one has rejuvenated me. We do live in a great country. Adam was a warrior for each of us. He has made the greatest difference one man can make. Thank you Adam, and thank you Surry County. |

| My heart goes out to the family of Pfc. Adam Marion. My heart breaks for your loss.
Thanks to the family for letting us be a part of something so personal and painful. It was a very emotional day for us, but nothing compared with the burden of living without this young man while still on this earth.
Many prayers for his loved ones. Many thanks for his unltimate sacrifice. |

Part 1 – Final Mission Report
We staged at the airport in Greensboro. There were 8 bikes and 1 cage, (Bruce with our flags). We met with the Greg, the funeral director and his staff as well as the military and the LEO’s. The family arrived about an hour ahead of the flight. When the time drew near, led by a single American Flag, we marched onto the tarmac in single file and took our position. The charter flight arrived and after some preparation, PFC Adam Marion was brought from the plane as we stood with salutes and hands over hearts. We showed him the respect that he so richly deserved as he was placed in the hearse. Adam’s mother and father came by and shook each of our hands and thanked us for being there for Adam.
Then the journey began… a journey like none other in my experience nor of the other PGR members serving that day. A journey that wet the eyes of most. When we reached the Surry County line, there was virtually no traffic in the South bound lanes and no one had passed us on the North bound side. Everyone had pulled off of the road and was standing in respect. Some saluted, some had their hands over their hearts, and still others were waving small American Flags. There were even 3X5 flags and signs being held at or near the ramps. Every overpass held people holding flags and signs to welcome Adam home and to show his family that he was their hero too.
If you ever wondered where patriotism lives… visit Surrylace County in North Carolina. When we reached Mountain, it seems the entire community was out at the street to wave ol’ glory and show their respect. We felt overwhelmed by the support. We then reached Mt. Airy and again, the streets were lined with caring citizens showing there love and support to Adam and his family. With the thought that it couldn’t get any better, we arrived in Dobson only to again find the community out if force. They were even in the streets. There were hundreds of patriotic citizens along the route. I have never seen such an out pouring of patriotism.
After arriving at the funeral home we joined with the LEO’s and were led in prayer by a member of the Surry County Sheriff’s Department. We then departed… taking our damp eyes and our full hearts with us. I don’t believe I’ve ever been more proud.
My thanks to all of you who turned out and shared this experience with me.

Part 2,3,4 Final Mission Report; Escort and Visitation, and Funeral
Saturday afternoon close to 20 PGR members arrived at Moody-Davis Funeral home to pay our highest respects to PFC Marion. We escorted our Hero from the funeral home about 5 miles to Piney Grove Church where he would rest for visitation and our final farewells on Sunday. The majority of us stayed for an incredible showing from the community later Saturday afternoon. I would have to estimate that possibly 800-1000 members of the community lined up outside the church, which wrapped down the sidewalk and snaked around the parking lot. Although visitation was not supposed to begin until 6pm, folks were there at 4:30 when we set up our flag line. The doors opened an hour early, and the droves of guests began filing in. In the 2 years that I have been a member of the Patriot Guard, I have never witnessed such an outpouring of love from a community such as Dobson and Surry County. I was honored and touched very deeply to see such acts of love and respect for a fine young hero and his family. At 7:30pm we could see the end of the line. And we stood down for the remainder of the evening.
Sunday afternoon, we joined back together at Piney Grove Church to pay our final respects for PFC Adam Marion and his family. We had a showing of 28 motorcycles, and 3 cages. We again, set our flag line an hour before the service, and the community began filing in immediately. By 1:30, the sanctuary was full, and by 2pm, the overflow room was packed, and community members and dignitaries filled the hallway in order to pay their final respects to Adam. PFC Marion was buried behind the church in Piney Grove Cemetery. With bagpipes playing, the entire community of Surry County and surrounding counties joined in saying goodbye and thank you to another Great American Hero who gave his life defending the freedoms that we all enjoy everyday.
I was approached after the service by Adam’s aunt, and Keith Arbuckle and I were invited into the fellowship hall to meet with Adam’s parents. We presented them with a Patriot Guard Challenge coin, of which they were very moved, and of course, hugs ensued. I am once again astounded by the strength I witness from the parents and families who lose their loved ones in battle. I will continue to pray for each and every one of them, and I pray that peace, understanding, and God’s love will continue to bless them and lift them up.
Thank you to those of you who took the journey with me over the 3 part mission of which I had the honor of overseeing. Your dedication to our troops and their families is recognized and appreciated. I have the utmost respect for each and every one of you, and without you, my job would be most difficult. Your flexibility, positivity, and ultimately your respect for our Fallen Heroes and their families had made another Mission a success and I take away from it a deeper respect for what we do and why we do it every time. Thank you for allowing me the honor.
Mission Complete.
