The Patriot Riders presence at Tyler's services gave me the opportunity to learn, as well as to teach.  I was unaware of who you were... I only learned after seeing you standing at attention outside, at every service, holding the flags and showing your support and respect.  My inquisitive 6 year old son was in awe.  He appreciates the flag that was given to him.  We tried to explain to him that Tyler was not only special to his family, but to many others who appreciated his efforts and sacrifice.

Upon return to Kindergarten this morning for the first time since the funeral, we walked in to the start of the Pledge of Allegiance.  For the very first time, he stopped in his tracks and spoke those words clearly, loudly and with the wisdom of a much older child.

I can't speak for anyone other than myself - but THANK YOU for everything you do.

My son and I drove up from Waterboro. It was a honor to be at the service. The pastor gave a beautiful sermon. The patriot guard stood strong and honorable in a snow filled day. It means so much to the family. thanks for all you do and bless Tyler.

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now,soldier.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime.
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord.
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now,soldier
you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets;
you’ve done your time in Hell."

I wish to express my condolences and my great admiration and thanks for the character that is embodied in a person who is willing to serve our country and dedicate a precious portion of their life to freedom. Tyler has left a mark on our world and in our hearts. He will truly be missed.

I would like to thank everyone who attended Pvt Smiths services on Monday May 19, 2008. We had
a couple from Mass and a father and son come over from Vermont (good to see you again Dan). We
had about 16 bikes and 5 cages. We met at the funeral home in Oxford and were given the honor
of leading the escort to Newry, Me. All the bikes lined up in front of the hearst and the cages followed
the family members. When we arrived at the cemetery we all parked and marched with the family
up the road to the cemetery. The family would like me to thank all of you who came out yesterday to
honor their son. They were really thankful we were there. Job well done everyone.
