If the escort is at 6:00 pm...my husband and I should both be able to make it.  He's working in Mattoon and he said he could go straight to Altamont from work.  He won't be able to go Friday, but I will.  My son may ride with me...he's not sure yet.  If he doesn't, I'll have at least one extra flag if anyone needs one.

Just to let you all know, I Spoke with Lynne Donaldson this Morning.  The family just got back from AK for their other son's college graduation.  I had not spoken with Bill Donaldson and asked if he would like to talk with me (they are not together).  I explained that I didn't want to leave him out and she understood.

I had conveyed the outpouring of condolences in the forum.  She had suspected this but she seemed relieved to hear it was true.

She had expressed her feelings toward the others that died with Christopher and hoped they would be treated equally as well.  I then assured her of our National PGR network has done this nationwide.  How touching to think of the others at a time like this.

I explained that she could expect to see an alley way of flags on arrival.

I look forward to meeting her Tues.

Effingham Motels - - There are several adjacent to I-70/I-57 with Motel 6 usually being the cheapest. Becky is trying to find a better rate, but the problem being there is a lot of construction in the area and the motels are housing workers. Good old supply and demand at work! The Illinois State Rt 33 exit is the best for access to Shumway.

I plan on being there Tuesday for the escort. GSFDResQ....dinner may be a possibility if you don't mind eating with an old medic! I may also be around the Thursday visitation and definitley there for Friday. Becky and I have done some recon of Shumway and found a possible staging area. We have given IVETRET the information.

Let us know if any of you need local information.

My heart and prayers go out to the family of Chief Warrant Officer 2 Christopher B. Donaldson. Being born and raised in Paris Ill. this really hits close to home for me in my heart. There are alot of good young men and women in Illinois. Patriotic, faithful to God, family and country. I wish I could only be there other than in spirit. Ride safe brothers and sisters and do this young hero proud.

I just talked to Kurt at the Abe Lincoln Motel, he has 3 rooms available in the $35-48 range. It is a older motel but clean and well run. The phone is 217-342-4717. I have a call out to see if we can get special rates at some other motels but have not heard back from them yet. Will post when I hear. CWO II Donaldson was also a shortstop on my youth basball team and his Dad and I coached together for several years as my and his sons were going through the leauges. A young man related a story about Chris to me last night. Chris was a Senior on the football team and a natural leader. Seems Chris hated smoking and caught some underclassmen smoking at at party. I guess Chris was quiet but when he spoke he had something to say and you better listen. Seems to have stuck with the young man I spoke to after all these years. Thanks to everyone for your thoughts, prayers and dedication for Chris. Hope to see many of you this week. Dan Sams

I'm assuming based on what I've read on blogs from other areas that y'all won't mind having some 4-wheel company. Will someone please let me know if that isn't true? Is a car with plenty of patriotic stickers acceptable if I stay behind the bikes?

Bill, I don't know the procedures in these matters but the one ride I was on in Kentucky had Jeeps, cars, and a old VW microbus. It is about respect, not how you get there. Please come over.

Thanks, Dan. My condolences on the loss of your friend. Sounds to me like you have the "moral authority" to invite me along -- I'll do my damndest to be there. The least an old vet who came home standing up should be doing. I just hope there aren't too many missions close enough to home that I feel like I can be there -- The Guard unit that meets in Lawrenceville is currently in Iraq.

Thanks to all for the hotel info. A special thanks to Ofc. Sean Aaron for his consideration and care for his local brother.

I hope to see a large number of our PGR family Thursday evening and Friday morning. Let's show the town of Effingham just how big the heart is of the PGR!

Best regards, and a wish for everyone's safe ride.
