We salute you ,Sir.
Final Inspection
The soldier stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining. Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, soldier. How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?" The soldier squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep.... Though I worked a lot of overtime. When the bills got just too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord. It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don’t, I’ll understand. There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod. As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God. "Step forward now, soldier you’ve borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets; you’ve done your time in Hell."

My deepest sympathy to the family of SPC Joshua R. Anderson,. I appreciate all of his contributions to our country and may there be a special place for him in heaven. He gave his 'all' so young. He has joined the ranks of heroes and I love him for that. He is America's son, and I am an American. That makes him partly my loss too. I will never forget. ~ Rose

I had never heard of the Patriot Guard before Pfc Anderson's visitation, but just driving by with my kids to show how importiant it is to honor our fallen soldiers - I was in awe over your display.

Mission Report : Spc. Joshua R. Anderson - Jordan, MN
On Thursday, January 10th, 2008 at 1:30 PM, approximately 12 Minnesota Patriot Guard members met on Water Street in Jordan, MN to stand in Honor of Spc. Joshua R. Anderson.
As we were gathering for our briefing, a van pulled up, the passenger window rolled down as a man inside looked at us and said, “You are here for my boy!” He was a very nice and brave father who thanked us many times over the next two days. We indeed were there for his boy; Spc. Joshua R. Anderson of Jordan, MN who died January 2nd, 2008 in Kamsasia, Iraq of wounds suffered when an IED exploded near his vehicle.
After a short briefing we moved to the funeral home which was one block down the street and formed our flag lines to honor Spc. Anderson. For the next seven hours we stood in snow, freezing mist, and I think a little rain in honor of Spc. Anderson. As the day waned, our numbers grew to a total of 36 Minnesota Patriot Guard Riders who came to respect the man Joshua was and the sacrifices he and his family made. The CAO had asked me how many people I thought we would have because Joshua’s mother wanted to provide coffee and sandwiches for us. I nicely explained to her that we did not need to be fed, and we were a self contained unit that did not want to place a burden on the family so she should not provide anything for us. When told this, Joshua’s mother, Lynn, replied “I don’t care.” and we had sandwiches, coffee and hot chocolate provided. I am amazed that at such a time as this, these wonderful, caring people thought of us and took care of us as if we were family. Lynn presented me with a Thank you card that read:
Dear Patriot Guards, Our Family would like to express our sincere gratitude for your support during this most difficult time. We are grateful that there are people like you to support our “Hero” and what so many have paid the ultimate price for. “May God Bless you”
The Family of Spc. Joshua R. Anderson.
It was a beautiful card from beautiful people.
We stood the flag line until approximately 8:45 PM. When the family came out, Lynn gave everyone a hug and Keven, Joshua’s father, shook everyone’s hand and thanked them for honoring his son.
On Friday morning, January 11th, the day of the funeral, we staged in Shakopee at 8:30 AM. A small group left early to arrive at the funeral home no later than 9:00 AM as directed by the funeral director. This small group met at the Ballard Sunder Funeral Home while Assistant Ride Captain, John Stolte, gathered the rest of the attending PG members for the briefing in the parking lot of the empty school across from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. John did an excellent job with the briefing and getting everyone in place and ready on time.
As John was setting up the flag line, those at the funeral home formed a flag line as they bought Joshua out and placed him in the hearse. Joshua’s family got in their cars, and the Patriot Guard Riders with our flags, walked alongside the hearse for the four blocks to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where the visitation prior to the funeral service was to take place. Joshua was placed in front of a large window looking out over the flag line. Lynn and Keven stood by Joshua during the visitation greeting friends and family.
During the visitation I was approached by the priest (I apologize I did not get a name), who asked if we would come into the attached school and explain to the children what we were doing. Since I believe that teaching children about patriotism is very important I agreed, but since I was the RCIC, I did not feel I could leave the flag line so I recruited the perfect person for the job, our Assistant State Captain, George Winslow. George was assisted by South East Metro Ride Captain, Indian John. George and John talked with 160 children that day telling them about the Patriot Guard Riders and answering their questions.
After the service the PGR formed a flag line around the front doors of the church where Joshua was bought out and placed in the hearse. With the Patriot Guard Riders gathered around, almost 80 of them, John Stolte and I presented the plaques to Joshua’s parents and his wife, Hannah. Presenting plaques to the widow and parents of a fallen American Hero is the most humbling and emotional experience I have had since losing my own parents. I pray that there was some comfort to the family and widow from the experience because it is still hard for me to think about it. I really can not properly explain the emotions I felt as I presented the plaques to these wonderful people in such a time of loss. As we presented the plaque to the parents and widow of this American Hero my words seemed inadequate to convey our condolences and respect for their son and husband.
After presenting the plaque I turned to the Patriot Guard members and lined them up on each side of the hearse, single file on each side, and with the assistance of the Jordan Police department blocking the traffic for us, we walked Joshua in the hearse the four blocks back to the funeral home. I stepped off the curb and wondered what I was doing at the head of the line of such a group of amazing people that the Patriot Guard Riders are. I glanced over my shoulder and saw the flags lining the road in honor of Spc. Joshua Anderson. As we escorted him back to the funeral home, my hair stood up (and I have a lot of hair to stand up), and goose bumps came all over me. I still tear up at the memory of that sight. We took Joshua back to the funeral home and formed a circle around the hearse. Joshua was taken out of the hearse and taken inside to wait till the burial at Fort Snelling in a few days. I then dismissed the Patriot Guard Riders as our mission was done for that day.
I want to express my appreciation to:
Lynn and Keven Anderson, Joshua’s parents, they raised a wonderful son, who put himself in harms way to take care of other American Heroes in the fight for Freedom, God Bless you, and for the coffee, hot chocolate and sandwiches at the visitation.
The Jordan Police Department, for doing a great job of protecting us in our march with Joshua and to our PG LEO liaison, Phil Pesheck, for making the arrangements with the Jordan Police Dept. John Stolte and Joe and Pat Fucile, our wonderful ARCs whose assistance helped accomplish the mission.
George Winslow and Indian John for educating the children about what we do.
The Ballard Sunder Funeral Home, for their help and cooperation, and for providing a warming room for the Patriot Guard Riders.
And most of all, the members of the Minnesota Patriot Guard Riders for coming to show Joshua, his family and the community appreciation, honor, dignity and respect for their friend, neighbor and family member, Spc. Joshua R. Anderson.
Spc Joshua R. Anderson was laid to rest January 14th 2008 at Fort Snelling National Cemetary, RCIC Indian John Thompson, Mission Report to follow.
