Patriotism is more than a sentiment; it is a conviction based upon a comprehension of the duties of a citizen and a determination loyally to perform such duties.

Rest in peace Raymond,
It was an honor to stand for you and your family today.
Family and Friends, you made us feel very welcomed today.
My wife, step daughter and step son commented on the turn out of family and friends.
The line was all the way down the block and then some.
I have been to many missions and to see (I think) the entire town, officers, fireman, guards and so on, I can't name them all, What a show of honor and respect for a great Hero.
There is one thing that I did get to see, while the line was all the way down the side walk there was a few younger girls maybe 20 years old or so, one of them unfolded a quilt (I think that's what it was) in honor of this fine young man, I don't know how to explain it except that it had all kinds plans, tanks, choppers, and 2 people holding hands in the center,The detail was unreal and it was hand made, but the one thing I can say. Thank God for sunglasses. I know they looked over at me once they folded it back up and I'm sure they could see my eyes watering, then they all knodded at me. I gave them the same back. Wow that was hard.

Jim

I pray that even when I'm gone that our younger generation continues to show their Respect and Honor (war or no war) as we do in the PGR for all of our Hero’s.

Thank you Raymond for a perfect day. Today because of you, I had the pleasure of meeting some of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure to meet. You are still having a profound and deep efect on many who knew you and many that didn't. No one will ever forget you, your service or your young life,
I don't even know how to begin to thank all the great people who showed their respect today in this very patriotic town of Dwight. To begin with, the Victory Lane folks went way above and beyond to provide for us today. They had a buffet table loaded and ready for us when we got there this morning. After the service a few of us went there and had sandwiches and said thanks, they thanked us and reminded us to come back tommorrow. Even though it's their normal day to be closed, they will be open for us. They will have their staff and extra food ready for us Monday before and after the funeral. I wholeheartedly recomend them. The whole town of Dwight was just so grateful that we were there, they just kept telling us thanks while we were trying to thank them. There are many who should be named but I don't want miss anyone so I'll say thanks to all for today.
It is said that Pride is one of the seven deadly sins. Well after leading the PGR in todays mission, I must be terminal.
Thanks, goodnight and see you tomorrow.

P.S. I'll be at Victory lane at 9am. We go to the church at 10am. Hope to see a big turn out.

In this war on terror.

It was an honor and a privilege to stand guard for you Lcpl. Raymond J, Holzhauer.

I bow my head in your honor and thank you for your courage.

I am humbled in your present as you are a true patriot of freedom.

God bless the family for providing such a patriot guardian of our freedoms.

I have taken the oath that

Never again will grieving parents, families and friends alone bear the toil.
Never again will hard-won freedom of speech be used to debase and destroy.
Never again will their sacrifice be dishonored upon their home soil.
No, Never Again.

I am only a civilian but allow me to salute you,

I just received this from Annette the leader of Operation Support Our Troops from Dwight .  Thought I'd pass along her thoughts on the Guard. Also told her to check the web site or contact you as I don't know how donations work.

I have to tell you, the Patriot Guard Riders are AWESOME.    When we were around the section, we could see all of those flags, we were just awestruck.    It was such a beautiful sight.   And when they went inside the tent and presented the family with those flags.....

I am going to ask the VFW Ladies Aux if we can make a donation to you guys.    Can we do that?    You could use it to buy more flags or something.    I know that you don't take anything for coming, but I just feel that we should give something back for the next family.

Annette

From the State Captain...it was truly our honor to be invited by this family and community.

                                                    Ride Report

This was the first time, and I hope the last time, that Dwight experienced this side of the Patriot Guard. The Patriotism and Support of this Community was immediately obvious and was inspiring through the end. From the open doors offered by the owner of the Victory Lanes Bowling Alley, to the citizens that lined the streets from town to the cemetary, and everyone and everything in between! Dwight, you are Awesome! Thank You.

I wish to acknowledge that the Funeral Director and local Police were teriffic to work with, and again the owner of the bowling alley and staff. Your support was well above and beyond anything we could have expected.

To the GoldStars, I am proud that you were "out there" with us. To have you in our ranks is indescribeable and awe inspiring! Please continue to do so.

The CAO and all other Marines were outstanding, Semper Fi ! And thanks again Msgt. O.

Dave W. and Mike S. did an outright stand up job handling the visitation, and it carried through for the day of the funeral. Thanks guys.

To the support vehicle operators, especially Fred, traveling the distance that you did, being there, and setting up the flag line at the cemetary, with the other riders, impressively fantastic! Thank you.

To all of you, your presence means more to those folks than you will probly ever realize. I know why you were there, you know why you were there, and now, several several others know why. Hats Off.

Tom H., great attention to detail noticing the young BoyScout with the flag, and suggesting to bring him up front with us, that was great.

To the family of Lcpl Holzhauer, again I thank you for allowing us into your lives during this tragic and challenging time. Although we were there for you and always will be, it helps us as well, as fellow Americans and Patriots. Please know that you are not forgotten, and that you may call on us at anytime, anywhere, Nation Wide!

Lcpl Holzhauer, GodSpeed Marine and Semper Fi ! We can never do enough for your sacrifice.
We are here for your family, and I know that you are still with us.

Semper Fi,

SlingBlade

That those are great photos by Mike Voss.
Seems that when distance and duties prevent me from standing there, but I go to work in a building where I must pass by a pole with a  half staff flag, the slide show helps bridge the gap between concern and absence.   It warms me to see the big crowd of support.

“Lest I keep my complacent way I must remember somewhere out there a person died for me today. As long as there must be war, I ask and I must answer was I worth dying for?”
