It appears that we may have to execute all aspects of our mission objectives:

Patriot Guard Riders Mission Statement

The Patriot Guard Riders is a diverse amalgamation of riders from across the nation. We have one thing in common besides motorcycles. We have an unwavering respect for those who risk their very lives for America’s freedom and security. If you share this respect, please join us.

We don’t care what you ride or if you ride, what your political views are, or whether you’re a hawk or a dove. It is not a requirement that you be a veteran. It doesn't matter where you’re from or what your income is; you don’t even have to ride. The only prerequisite is Respect.

Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family. Each mission we undertake has two basic objectives.

1. Show our sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities.

2. Shield the mourning family and their friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors.

We accomplish the latter through strictly legal and non-violent means.

To those of you who are currently serving and fighting for the freedoms of others, at home and abroad, please know that we are backing you.  We honor and support you with every mission we carry out, and we are praying for a safe return home for all.

We had an EXCELLENT group here today for the flag line. THANKS to all that attended. You were awesome, and the sight of the flag line along the sidewalk before the visitation was a powerful one. And the constant attention you gave the line until 4:00pm was incredible.

The family, friends, and soldiers were obviously touched with our show of support. It is amazing to see the impact on these fragile people that occurs by only our presence...no words necessary. What we do is SO IMPORTANT.

The weather will be cool in the morning, but sunny. I'm sporting some red from today's sun. Bring sunscreen, even though it is cold.

Staging is as posted on the front of this thread. We'll see you in the morning. For those unable to attend, keep us and the family and the LEO and the soldiers in your prayers for an event full of honor, dignity, and respect.

We also picked up and/or met several new PGR members. FRANK

I am a student at SIUE and actually was unaware of the funeral taking place on campus until just recently. The school only tonight sent out an email mainly to say beware of traffic. Unfortunately, my bike is in pieces in the midst of winter mods, however I will be there to support Specialist Garbs with my truck bearing flags. I will have to briefly slip away to take a mid-term but will return in time to help with the escort to JB.

God Bless you Specialist Garbs.

MISSION COMPLETE - RIDE CAPTAIN REPORT

Today was an incredible day, and you made an incredible impact on a grieving family and community. THANKS PGR !!!!

We had 43 bikes and 55 total people signed in for this ride. Thanks to all of you who rode in the cold cold early morning hours to arrive early for the staging. I learned that PGR is always early !!!

Thanks to Arne and Jim and Roni for leading the PGR to SIUE while Lloyd and I went to the funeral home. We were escorted to SIUE with six ISP Motorcycle officers who continued onto Jefferson Barracks after the funeral.

Staging at SIUE went very smoothly, and the ride was very safe. It is always an amazing sight to see all the big flag bikes going down the interstate.

The community was rallied together for this event by a local business woman, and she did a GREAT job. Edwardsville truly showed its support for this family.

At Jefferson Barracks, we participated in the burial of Ryan at the gravesite. PGR completely surrounded the family with flags at this point...eyes were NOT dry !!!!

There were riders from Illinois, Missouri, and Indiana between both days. THANK YOU for your dedication and support. I also appreciate the guidance and counsel shared with me during my first Ride Captain mission. Several Ride and Road Captains were present on both days...from various states...and your input was valuable for an even better mission.

Sorry to the guys from Herrin and deep south...my posting about plans changing didn't make it to the top of the thread. That is just one of the things I learned on this Mission. Another thing I learned...bring extra flags. I have a nice spot on my crossover exhaust pipe where the flag "leaned" against it after parking. Luckily the VFW were present, and they graciously folded the flag for proper disposal later.

There were VFW, American Legion, and many other supporters present at the funeral at SIUE. The students and press were extremely courteous and respectful. Every press member respected the family's wishes for no interviews as they approached PGR. Several times I simply said "The family has requested there be no interviews. We are here for the family. Please respect their wishes." EVERY SINGLE REPORTER showed great respect and understanding...a nice change.

Special thanks to the all the soldiers in attendance taking care of Ryan and his family; the Edwardsville Police Department and Chief Bopp and Lt. Mills; Mike Weber, Ed Rodney and Joe Kalmer of Weber and Rodney Funeral Home; Carol Stolze for her assistance in rallying the community; and PGR members (please forgive me if I don't remember everyone) Chris Brocksmith, Jim and Roni Storck; ARNE and Arne Jr; Ken Brumley for holding the Army flag; Parachute for holding the big American flag at the funeral home; Russ Bauer from IN; new and "seasoned" PGR members; and Lloyd Zacheis for his friendship and dedication to PGR.

God Bless each and every one of you. And may God provide comfort to the grieving family and friends, and may God provide courage and strength and wisdom to Ryan's fellow soldiers who are fighting for our freedoms!!!!!
