"It appears we have appointed our worst generals to command forces, and our most gifted and brilliant to edit newspapers! In fact, I discovered by reading newspapers that these editor/geniuses plainly saw all my strategic defects from the start, yet failed to inform me until it was too late. Accordingly, I'm readily willing to yield my command to these obviously superior intellects, and I'll, in turn, do my best for the cause by writing editorials - after the fact." Robert E. Lee, 1863

| All the sources I checked online lists the Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834 address as 1335 Mt. Sterling Rd, Flemingsburg, KY. The phone number for the VFW post is listed as being (606) 845-6101. However, none of the online mapping sites I normally use nor the GPS software I use could pinpoint that address correctly. |

Everything went great tonight. There were 10 members show up. The family was very appreciative of us being there. We request a large turn-out tomorrow. VFW was on top of everything as well and had a large spread laid out.

I have an additional comment to make. Bill Miller the Louisville metro ride Captain lost his mother this day and called and advised that he is still coming to Flemingsburg and bringing all the new 50 large AMERICAN fLAGS ON THE 10 FOOT POLES. People that do not know Bill...Well he is a stand up guy. We will be coming together along with some Kosair Shriners now PGR members. People ask why do you all do this..........Respect for our American fighting force. I believe in our Military.

Take I-64 to the Mt. Sterling exit, and then go on Kentucky Highway 11 north. The Interstate will be your quickest route, and the roads are better than going through the other state and US highway backroads. Today from Frankfort we went the shorter way through the country roads going there, but we came back on I-64. It was much quicker coming back the longer way because the roads were much better with far fewer hills and curves. Be careful as you get closer to Flemingsburg because there is some construction still on Highway 11 as they are straightening and widening that road. There is construction in front of the VFW building, and from there on in to Flemingsburg. It is about 3 miles from the VFW to the high school.
Drive safely tomorrow! The roads were wet tonight and there are a lot of curvy sections on Highway 11 from Mt. Sterling. |

Mission Complete Report
The PGR provided an Honor Guard Escort to the Boone Nichols Funeral Home on 1/24/07 at 1300 hours on 1/24/07. On 1/27/07, the PGR posted at 1600 hours an Honor Guard Flag Line at the Visitation Services which were held at the Flemingsburg HS, Flemingsburg KY. the Honor Guard stood down at approx 2030 hours. On 1/28/07 the PGR arrived at the Flemingsburg HS at 1200 hours to provide an Honor Guard and flag tunnel to honor the memory of Sgt John E Cooper. There were PGR members from over three states in attendance to pay tribute to this Fallen Hero. There was a large police detail, a large military delegation attending form Fort Knox,KY, Fort Campbell,KY, and Fort Bliss, Texas. Lawmakers from city state and federal levels attended this service.
The threat from antiwar protesters was contained, due to the excellent of Flemingsburg, KY Chief of Police Danny Carpenter and the Kentucky State Police.
The PGR was represented by Kentucky State Captain, Greg Newman. He had numerous Ride Captains from all over Kentucky join him in honoring Sgt John Cooper. He presented a plaque from the PGR and an encased flag to the family members.
The funeral procesion proceeded to the Cemetery, with a flag tunnel awaiting them.
A word of recognition to the Franklin Sousley VFW Post in Flemingsburg, KY. They welcomed the PGR with open arms...they provided warm food and drinks for us the temperatures were frigid and they did what they could to make us comfortable. The post is named after one of the Marines that raised Our Flag over Iwo Jima in WWII. He lost his life there. These folks were very kind and are great friends to the PGR.
The other word of thanks goes to Chief of Police Danny Carpenter..he went out of his way to help us accomplish this mission. He welcomes us and supports our work.
The colors were struck approx 1600 hours, and after a brief staging at the VFW Post, we proceeded to Owingsville, KY to the visitation services for Sgt Phillip McNeill.
I feel honored to have paid respect this this young man. Coop, rest easy, your work is done here. Thank You for your Sacrifice.
I standby for my next mission.
