| On behalf of all TEXAS PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS and in support of the family of Staff Sgt. Wosika we offer our deepest condolences to the family and our brothers and sisters in the MN PGR for your loss.
A member of the Staff Sgt’s. family is one of our riders and informed us of the family’s loss. We are a tight knit group down here as the PGR is everywhere. When one feels a loss we all do.
There is no greater deed than that of laying down your life for a brother. I salute you Staff Sargent, you protected your troops and gave your life for them.
May God Bless you and your’s. You’ll be walking with some great troops who have paved the way for us all.

Excerpt from a local news story about SSG Wosika. He will also be posthumously awarded the Bronze Star for his actions.
Let us come together as Americans to help his family heal from this tragic loss. We will not forget James, his service, his sacrifice, and that others lived because of his selfless actions. He is a true hero and we shall honor him as such!
============================================ 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS learned Thursday that Staff Sgt. James Wosika Jr. actually saved nine other soldiers in his final moments. He will now receive special honors as the military prepares to deliver his body to his family in Saint Paul. His father spoke about his son, the mission, and the president's new plan for Iraq. The military told Wosika's father Thursday morning his son has been promoted posthumously to Staff Sgt. and will receive the bronze star for saving nine Minnesota soldiers with him that day. ============================================ |

The Bronze Star ...

The Bronze Star is awarded a person in any branch of the military service who, while serving in any capacity with the Armed Forces of the United States on or after December 7, 1941, shall have distinguished himself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service ... in connection with military operations against an armed enemy.
The award recognizes acts of heroism performed in ground combat ... recognizes single acts of merit and meritorious service ... such service must have been accomplished with distinction.
The medal is in the shape of a five-pointed star. In its center is a smaller raised star. The small star is set on a raised ten-pointed figure, from which rays extend to the points of the outer star, giving the whole a sculptured effect. The reverse of the medal also has a raised center, with rays extending to the five points of the star. Inscribed on this are the words "Heroic or Meritorious Achievement" encircling a blank space for the recipient's name. The ribbon is predominately red, with a narrow blue center stripe flanked on either side by a narrow white stripe, and a narrow white stripe at the outer edge. A bronze "V" on the ribbon denotes combat service.
------------------
Thank you for your service and your heroism, SSGT Wosika. Thank you to all his family and friends.

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. Colossians 2:6-7 ESV

A Soldier's Prayer (author unknown)
Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die.

I received the following e-mail yesterday about SSG Wosika. It is being posted with the author's permission. =======================================================
Dear Sir or Ma'am,
I am writing on behalf of "The Outlaws". This group is made up of the infantry soldiers that spent most of Jim's career with him. I had the honor and privilege of being Jim's squad leader from the time he came in to the end of our tour in Kosovo. Jim's was one of the genuinely kind souls one rarely encounters throughout life. He had a way of putting a smile on your face even when things were at their worst. I want to thank you for taking the time out of your lives to provide this ride for Jim and his family. Jim died doing what he believed in and a part of the Outlaws died with him on the 9th of January. I hope that your ride finds you in fair skies and the sun shining so it will be a reminder of what Jim was like. Thank you.
