I am especially sorry to have to miss this particular mission. Notably absent from the "thread" is mention as to why the passing of Kristian and his comrade in arms Thomas Tucker is of paramount and symbolic importance marking as it does a historic turning point in the war. My brothers and sisters, stand tall and be proud of the ultimate sacrifice paid by this Texan for the eternal cause of freedom and liberty for all people everywhere. We are many but our spirit is one in the service of liberty and victory over the dark forces of tyranny. My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Pfc's Kristian Menchaca and Thomas Tucker.

While the death of any and all US Soldiers weighs tremendously on my heart, the circumstances of this fallen American son's death are especially difficult for me to come to terms with.
It is with a profound sadness but steeled sense of resolve and purpose that I will do whatever it takes to ride in honor of this too-young-fallen Soldier, who paid the highest price for his country.
I feel an urgent sense of responsibilty to bear witness to the passing of this young hero. I shall not let his death pass unnoticed. I cannot let his death pass unnoticed.
I'm working out a schedule with my boss this morning to make plans to leave early on Tuesday so that I can be in Brownsville on Wednesday morning. I know that there are other PGR riders doing the same. If possible, maybe some of us Tuesday night riders can meet up Tuesday night in Brownsville for dinner? |

sc99p -- your words: "I feel an urgent sense of responsibilty to bear witness to the passing of this young hero. I shall not let his death pass unnoticed. I cannot let his death pass unnoticed."
Those were the words I was searching for. It does not matter that it is a weekday and it does not matter that the miles are many -- we will be there. Call the location and time of your PGR meeting and we will be there too.
Ride safe, ride proud, ride with respect, and ride for Kristian Menchaca.

Ya'll are going to have to put up with me again as RC. Going back out today to make sure of staging and route. Ran into the city heads meeting at the event center yesterday-didn't know they were having one, couldn't stay for their meeting since we were staring at an ugly looking cloud coming in and needed to get home before it hit. sc99p and all coming in,,,yep, let me know if you want to have supper or just sodas/coffee etc on Tuesday night. I know one person has reservations at the Motel 6 and it has a nice lil place right across the parking lot for food, beverage and relaxation. Has a patio on the resaca. Easy access and no worry on getting lost. I've been there before and their food was good enough for repeated visits by husband and me. Patio or inside preferences? If you are coming down Tues night, give me a head count so I can let CobbleHeads save enough table space for us. |

PFC Menchaca "First Strike" young man, You will forever wear that title proud. As a long ago "First Strike" soldier I know the heritage and I know the pride, of one of the greatest fighting units of this great nation. I know when the rest of the Battalion is called for role call you will be standing tall. I am looking foward to honoring you and your family for your sacrfice. Departing San Antonio Tuesday morning.
“Rest your head now, weary soldier. Cast your weapons to the ground. Close your eyes and feel the peace. The light of Jesus fold around. Heed not our earthly battle cries. There is no post for you to stand. So rest now as he carries you within His loving hand. Do not look back upon us. Disregard our selfish tears. Walk in the sunlight of the spirit free of war or pain and fear. Your duty here is done now as ours will someday be, so go with Him now to places only heroes ever see.”

I'm booked at the Motel 6 also...hope to be there no later than 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Would
enjoy the chance to meet some fellow PGR's --- and I'll certainly be
ready for a meal and a few cold beverages after 6-7 hours on the road.
Cobbleheads
sounds as good a place as any to meet. I'll plan on being there around
9:00 p.m. (after a shower and change out of my road clothes). Any and
all are welcome to join me. I'd enjoy and appreciate the company. |

Count me in on the Motel 6 and Cobbleheads at 9pm.
BTW: I am planning on towing the scooter down and will follow behind any riders that would like a safety net (i.e. broken bikes on trailer, good ones on the road). Also, have spare room in my Mazda Tribute for those that want to bring flags and get a ride. ** HOUSTON AREA RIDERS **

I just got a reservation at the Motel 6 as well. I have other things going on, as we all do, but this is a mission I have to make. Pfc. Manchaca made the ultimate sacrifice under extremely difficult circumstances and I have to be there with my fellow PGR Riders to honor this brave young man and soldier. I also look forward to honoring, thanking, and hopefully consoling his grieving family and friends for standing by Kristian and supporting him during his difficult mission.
I will be at Cobbleheads to see my faithful PGR friends, Terry, Dave, Keeper, sc99p(I see we have been on a lot of missions together), and many more I hope can make this mission. Ride safe. |

Sadly, I cannot make this mission. Too much chaos at work right now. I will be with you all in spirit, brothers and sisters of the PGR. To the family of PFC Menchaca: Words cannot express my sorrow for your loss. Please know that we are grateful and sorry for your sacrifice. God speed, PFC Menchaca and a job well-done. Rest well, warrior-brother.

Betty and Jerry,
I have to work from 6:00 a.m. -- Noon tomorrow.
As soon as I get off, I'll stop by the house, and hope to be on the
road to Brownsville before 1:00. My plan was to take 35 south to San
Antonio, to 37 South to Corpus Christie, and then 77 down to
Brownsville. (although I might take 123 S from San Marcos to Stockdale,
and then 97 S/W to through Floresville to the junction with I-37 near
Pleasanton).
If others are planning a staging area in or around San Antonio, I'd be
happy to alter my route to ride down with others. But don't wait on me
if you're wanting to get on the road earlier (or if you are planning on
leaving later). |
