Though I did not know EO1 Rovinksi personally, I do have the pleasure and honor to say that I served in the same unit with him. From what others around me say, Gary was a great man, a "man of many seasons", who enjoyed doing things a little differently. My good friend and fellow Seabee Culinary Specialist 2nd Class, Mark Clark could hardly express his grief and condolences at the Memorial Service held at our location in Iraq. Gary and HM2 Jamie Jaenke who died in a convoy in the Al-Anbar province, in Iraq, will be sorely missed. Please look for a ride mission for Jamie to come soon.

Godspeed Gary, my sincere condolences to you and yours.

SK3 Joseph Losier
NMCB Two-Five
Iraq

My Friend and Fellow Seabee, Builder 2nd Class McArthur found an e-mail that Gary had sent to him last year after they had attended a leadership school together. He normally deleted Gary's forwards but for some reason hung on to one entitled "The Final Inspection".

THE FINAL INSPECTION

The Seabee stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, you Seabee,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"

The sailor squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the sailor waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you Seabee,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell.""

WITH WILLING HEARTS
AND SKILLFUL HANDS,
THE DIFFICULT WE DO AT ONCE,
THE IMPOSSIBLE TAKES A BIT LONGER
WITH COMPASSION FOR OTHERS
WE BUILD, WE FIGHT
FOR PEACE WITH FREEDOM

I just booked a 2 person cabin in the campground for Tuesday night.

I am coming alone, however, so if anyone needs a place out of the weather to put their stuff...or if someone needs a place to crash, just let me know and we can make arrangements. Its a bring your own bedding cabin, so if you need to crash you should bring whatever you need.

Anyone intersted can email me (chris@inaharabladecrafts.com).

Best.

Chris.

Mission for HM2 Jamie Jaenke is currently a STANDBY Mission. We have not received an official DoD press release as of 12:00 noon today. I will be RC for this mission if and when it becomes a go.

NOTE: This is in response to Jolonco's post above. It is NOT part of the PO Rovinski mission.

Ride safe,

I have searched around but did not find an answer: Can someone please explain what the 'kickstand placard' is and how we can get one?

I am a new member and this will be my first Honor Mission...so its important to me that I'm fully prepared.

Thank you very much.

Chris.

Ah, yes. I completely understand...I just had not heard that term before. I have heard 'kickstand coaster' but not 'placard'.

No worries, I will be sure to bring one along.

Best Regards to all.

Our own lives just don't seem to give us enough opportunities to honor those who have given their life for us. God speed Petty Officer Gary Rovinski, and may your family find additional comfort knowing how much so many care. It's an honor to honor you.

Pekin area PGR-- anyone interested in joining up for ride to galesburg to honor Petty officer Rovinski on wednesday june 14th. we will meet at rally point we used for spc GEBUR. which is at foot of court st. by pekin bridge. we will meet at 5:45-- leave at 6:00 sharp--- This puts me at galesburg rally point around 7:00. i will be helping our captain chris and max. therefore i need to be a little early. weather looks like chance of rain. be prepared. be fueled up and bring kickstand placard. be prepared to present and conduct yourself in a respectful manner. Petty officer rovinski his family and friends deserve nothing less. any riders with questions can call me 309-348-2028    309-267-0605   or post and i'll answer------veach

Veach forgot to update the route from the Pekin rally point. We will procede across the Pekin brige to US24 east to I474 north to I74 west. Riders coming in from the east along I74 be advise I74 through peoria is under construction and your best route is to use the I474 bypass of Peoria. ETA from the Pekin Rally point to I474/US24 @ Bartonville aproximately 0615.

Ugibugi,

If you would like to meet us at the Pekin Bridge you are more than welcome to ride along. However it would not be your closest route. I belive you closet route will be IL97 north to I74 north.

Is there any more escort info?

NMCB 25 lost two sailors this week in the same attack.  EO1 Rovinski was one of them.  It hit home because my wife is a 'BEE with NMCB 17 here at Ft. Carson.  She knew EO1 Rovinski.  She told me just tonight that she lost two BEEs the other day.

Godspeed, EO1.  Rest easy, Shipmate, we have The Watch.  We'll see you on the Glorious Last Day.

Mrs. Rovinski, to you and your children, the First Class Brotherhood thanks you for your husband's loyal and dedicated service.  We feel the pain of your sacrifice, although we cannot comprehend your grief.  Know that your husband served with honor, courage and commitment and did not die in vain.  The SEABEES "Can Do" spirit is doing great things every day over there that the news will never tell you about.  God be with you and comfort you.  On behalf of a proud Navy, we thank you and grieve with you.

I wish I could make this one to bring a Shipmate home, but Illinois is just too far.

Incase you didn't check the Media/Press section, there's a media link to the Macomb Journal there regarding this mission that says it all....
http://www.patriotguard.org/MediaPress/MediaSightings/tabid/72/Default.aspx

I learned more from this article than in this itinerary.
