First off, my deepest sympathys go out to this young man's family. I don't know if anyone has heard yet but I just checked those church protesters website and they ARE planning to be at this funeral. I only wish they would just let these brave men and women rest in peace but since they cannot lets make sure this family is sheilded from their hatred! I will try everything in my power to be there, but am not sure if I can make it. Keep me updated though and keep up the good work!!

If they do show up; they should get arrested. If I understand the information and picture on the home page; The Pres just made it a Federal Offense by signing H.R. 5037, the Respect for American's Fallen Heros Act.

Also; I need to clarify, that O'Hare has been having delays when experiencing heavy DEW not due.

See you at the VFW in Park Ridge tonight.

Is this mission for tonight (Tues, 5/30) or tomorrow (Wed, 5/31)? The posts here are a little misleading.

Just as an FYI, the detailed post on page 1 of this thread shows the escort mission as taking place tomorrow. I am trying to switch some things around so I can make this mission. I will do my best.

Regardless, I will be there in spirit and my heartfelt condolences are with the family and friends of Pfc. Lufkin.

30 May 2006 1:57 PM Alert

The fed “Respect for America's Fallen Heroes Act” only applies to National Cemeteries and still allows for demonstrating.

Restrictions are:

-          not on the property

-          not within 150 feet of a road, pathway, or other route of ingress to or egress from such cemetery property

-          not within 300 feet of such cemetery and impedes the access to or egress from such cemetery

-          not during the period beginning 60 minutes before and ending 60 minutes after a funeral, memorial service, or ceremony is held,

And it includes the following passage:

SENSE OF CONGRESS ON STATE RESTRICTION OF DEMONSTRATIONS NEAR MILITARY FUNERALS.

It is the sense of Congress that each State should enact legislation to restrict demonstrations near any military funeral.

The IL state “Let Them Rest in Peace Act” also allows for demonstrating.

Restrictions are:

-          cannot knowingly obstruct a person’s entry or exit from a funeral site

-          not within “200 feet of family and friends as they mourn soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice”

-          prohibited 30 minutes before a funeral, during a funeral, and 30 minutes after the funeral within that 200-foot privacy zone.

However – since the PGR are invited guests of the families, that means - in IL - the protesters would have to be at least 200 feet away from PGR members – so the protesters would need to be at least 200 feet from wherever our line is established…

Let’s all hope the LEO’s can (and I know they will want to) enforce the laws to protect the families…

I hope to make the escort mission tonight, but it's not looking good.  But I will be there in sprit if prevented from being there in person.

I'll have to settle for being with you in spirit on this one. My thoughts and prayers will be with the Lufkin family, and with all of the Riders making that long trek on roads that may turn dangerous. Ride safe. I'll be watching for a post that says everyone got there safely.

Bogiediver, at the CW2 Donaldson funeral the day after the Illinois bill passed the State Police kept the slime 200 feet from the funeral and let us closer, but didn't keep the slime 200 feet from us. I hope you're right that it's being interpreted differently now.

30 May 2006 4:23 PM Alert

Lufkin escort - Princeton, IL staging - Weather reports from Quad Cities TV show some bad weather. NOT severe weather.  Lousy in some parts of the Quad Cities right now but moving northeast.  Looks like scattered rain showers, some heavy, with nothing we cannot endure for this patriot.

I will be at the Road Ranger truck stop at 8:00 to 8:30 PM tonight.  Ed will be calling me when they depart from O'Hare with Pfc. Lufkin.  I'll make one more post at that time for a more accurate ETA in Princeton but it looks like they will arrive in Princeton around 9:00 PM.  Ride safe.  I'll see some of you soon in Princeton.
