***UPDATE*** SPC Gullet's body will be arriving at 0900 at the Worthington Airport. I did meet with the airport manager and everything is set up. Details will be given at the briefing. The STAGING/BRIEFING area will be tomorrow, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 at 0730 hours, at the Lowes parking lot at the intersection of US 23 N and Diedrick Blvd (across from AK Steel). KSU at 0745 hours sharp. We will travel to the Worthington Airport and set up a flag line inside a designated hanger. From there we will be escorting Jeremy to the Reed Funeral Home in Greenup. All coordinating plans have been made with Roger Reed, in accordance with the family's wishes. Upon arrival to the funeral home, we will immediately set up a second flagline in which Jeremy will pass between from the hearse to enter the funeral home. The family will follow him inside. After the family has entered the funeral home, the Patriot Guard will quietly depart the area to give the family privacy with Jeremy. For those that would like to ride to the cemetery site, I will be headed out that way so you know how to get there. Following that, I will be going to the Wurtland Middle School where the visitation will be taking place on Friday, 1700-2100 hours, and Saturday, 1200-1400 hours. The funeral will begin at 1400 hours, Saturday. All other info will be provided at the briefing. Please be on time if not early. There's a lot of info to put out for this three day mission. As always, take care and ride safe. Tom 606.571.9022

Spc Gullett should be arriving at Ashland-Boyd County airport at about 9am. Just a heads up, I have been in there before and it's a very foggy airport so I wouldn't be super surprised if there were any delays, just a warning. Anyways, take care, sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner they scheduled it during the day. Be safe out there!

Final Inspection
The soldier stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining. Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, soldier. How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?" The soldier squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep.... Though I worked a lot of overtime. When the bills just got too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord. It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don’t, I’ll understand. There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod. As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God. "Step forward now, soldier you’ve borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets; you’ve done your time in Hell."

Completed mission report Spc. Jeremy R.Gullet: Wed: Airport to funeral home escort: Under RC Tom Epperly approx 13 riders and one cage met at Lowes for the ride briefing then proceeded to Worthington Ky airport to stand a flag line along with the military honor guard for the arrival of Spc. Gullett. It was an emotional expierience, possibley one of the most emotional Ive witnessed in the missions I have been present for. Escorted by two Kentucky State Police cruisers the PGR and several engines from several fire departments rode escort for Spc Gullet to the Reed Funeral Home in Greenup Ky. Again a very emotional expierience as a flag line was formed for the transfer of the Spc Gullett from the hearse to funeral home. Several of us then went to the cemetary to familerize ourselves with the location and layout.
Friday's visitation Wurtland KY, Middleschool: After stageing at the Greenup war memorial on rt 23 for a short briefing 9 riders left for the middle school arriving and forming flag lines at two entrances our number growing a bit later to 13. A large number of family, friends, fellow firefighters and LEO along with a large military presense of different branches of the military attended. The flag line was held until everyone had left the visitation approx at 9.00 pm. Numerous expressions of thanks were offered by the family, military, firefighters, and friends of Spc Gullet for the PGR presence during the evening. PGR members a few at a time passed thru the line to pay their respects to Spc. Gullet. Speaking for myself this was the most emotional time of the mission as the parents and family standing at Jeremy's side greeted me, though having never met me before, with tearful embraces. A PGR plague was presented to the family by RC Tom Epperly during the visitation.
Saturday: Visitation and funeral escort: After stageing at the Greenup war memorial on rt 23 at 10.15 am and a short briefing 16 bikes proceeded to the Wurtland Middle School, where we set up a flag line at the main entrance. There was a large attendance not only of friends and family, fellow firefighters and military, but also members of the community attended the visitation and service. The PGR bikes were joined by several firefighters who wished to ride with us during the visitation. The flag line was held until 2.00 pm at which time the service began and we moved back to the parking area to prepare for the escort to the cemetary. From our postion we could hear the heart rending sound of bagpipes and then the last call for Spc Gullet broadcast by his fire department. Escorted by the Kentucky State Police and several other LEO departments, the PGR along with several firefighters on motorcycles riding with us led the procession, followed by Spc Gullet, being borne on the rear of a fire engine along followed by engines from approx 32 fire deptartments, followed by the family and the rest of the procession north on Rt 23. Other fire departments set up a flag suspended over the procession route. A large turnout of the community were standing on the road side displaying flags and signs to show their respect and gratitude for Jeremy all along the route on rt 23 and rt 2. Arriveing at the cemetary we set up a flag line as military honors were carried out by the military for Jeremy and his family. This concluded the mission.
The PGR would like to thank the staff of the Reed funeral home and the family of Spc. Jeremy Gullet for their concern for our comfort with the continual offering of drinks and food during the entire visitation and service and the offer of dinner afterward. We would also like to thank the Kentucky State Police, all the fire depts, the military staff present, and other LEO for their assistance and support through out this misson of respect, honor, and gratitude for the service of Spc. Jeremy Gullet
I would also like to thank the PGR members who attended Fri and Sat for makeing my job as acting RC for those parts of the mission a lot easier. As always there were minor changes during the mission and you folks adapted quickly and smoothly to them in the best traditions of the PGR.
Respectfully submitted: Ghost

| It was a great honor to stand and ride for this warrior. There are no words that can describe what the memories from this mission mean to me. His mother, father, grandmother and aunt especially, took time from within their sadness to make sure we knew how much they appreciated our being there. I will always remember their hugs and the aunt's brave smile when I know she felt like crying! It was truly a great honor to stand and hold our beautiful flag and ride with respect and gratitude for this soldier who gave his life to preserve our freedom. Thank you, Jeremy Gullet, for your service. Thank you to the family for inviting us and allowing the Patriot Guard Riders this opportunity to show that we care. |
