My condolences to the family of Eddie Livingston. Bike's going in the shop tomorrow, but I will be waiting at exit 63 in Duncan, SC, at 0830, to ride with Eddie for at least 23 miles, to exit 40, where the bike shop is. Bike's got a gremlin that comes and goes. If it stays gone, I'll ride further. Does anyone know if the escort will be flying PGR colors?

On May 13, I was asked by Eddie's niece to carry Eddie's wallet and favorite hat on the Southern Route of our Run For The Wall, from California to Washington, DC. Eddie's ashes were traveling on the Central Route, but his niece wanted something to be on the Southern Route also. I was humbled and brought to tears standing at the main entrance to our host hotel.

Eddie was Airborne, and a Pathfinder: I was Airborne and riding on the Advance Team. There seemed to be a poetic connection.

For the next ten days, Eddie's belongings were carried by the Southern Route Advance Team through heat, rain, and hail as we made our way across this great nation via CA, AZ, NM, TX, LA, MS, AL, TN, VA and finally into DC. On one leg we carried the package in the Missing Man Formation.

Each member that carried that precious package entered notes on our itinerary for Eddie's niece....and most left a token of their trip to Honor Eddie's heroism, and for his niece to remember us by

We will always keep Eddie in our hearts and minds.

Strength and Honor

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now,soldier.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime.
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord.
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now,soldier
you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets;
you’ve done your time in Hell."
