Rose,

Thanks for the info and understand completely about time of escort on Monday being up in the air.  Even after a confirmed arrival time on a previous mission, we've had an unexpected 3 hour airport delay.
Right now I'm focusing on the mission for the funeral on Friday.

Rest In Peace Chief Warrant Officer 2 Christopher B. Donaldson

I just want to thank everyone.  I am from Effingham, and I knew Christopher a little bit in High School.  I just wanted to say thank you for coming here and helping to protect his family at their most trying hour.

THIS JUST IN FROM EFFINGHAM COUNTY SHERIFF - - ESCORT FROM ALTAMONT TO EFFINGHAM WILL BE TUESDAY - - NO TIME GIVEN - - (1640 HRS 12MAY06)

Itinerary Update.

As of now this mission is in two parts.

1) The return from the airport on TUESDAY has now been changed till Tuesday. This is ESCORT ONLY with times to be determined.  I appreciate any local support available.

2) The funeral is on Friday, May 19th at 10:30 at Faith Lutheran Church in Shumway, IL.  Staging at 9:00 AM in an area TBA.

The first part, sad to say, is still vague because the Army has not communicated the exact arrival time with the funeral director.  All this is hampered by a weekend no less.  I hate to see folks come a long distance with an inconclusive time.  You could be waiting hours.  Please decide if this is in your heart to do.  I plan to be at both events.  I have been pressing the LEO for a time of their briefing so that we can go from there.

I would like to gather all available members of the Patriot Guard Riders and Supports on Friday at 9AM at a place to be determined by my local coordinating staff.  At least this is a firm time and YOU WILL BE NEEDED.  Please bring 3 by 5 flags.   I have been informed that permits have been requested by others.

I also spoke with Officer Sean Arron.  (note he's posted this forum)

They have escort to meet at the Baptist Church just north of the 1-70 exit.  It is across from a McDonald's, Subway and Stuckey's.  There are two gas stations and one if not both have premium (for the big V-Twins).  The church lot is large, completely paved and has a long wide drive that we can line-up on.

I'll be riding down Thursday from St. Charles, IL. Can anyone local recommend a hotel near Shumway?

Thoughts and prayers go out to the Donaldson family.

Thanks Rose and Ed for the coordination, again.

John

Old Coastie...

Your best bet is Effingham, not too far from Shumway, maybe 5 miles. Motel 6, Comfort Inn, several others all at I-57/I-70/Rt 33 crossroads. Plenty of eats around too.

Coming from the North, I will be arriving Sunday and staying the night in Altamont.---F.Y.I.---- I reserved a room for myself at Knights Inn, I spoke with a Rene who confirmed she will offer us military rates (because of the situation, she realizes I am not in the service now) The rate is $34.20 for a single person. You can call directly at the Knights Inn in Altamont or you can use the 1-800-843-5644 number and save yourself a dime and they call Altamont and confirm. They attached a memo as to this is a PGR group. Will meet up with whomever at the Kelly trucking on Monday a.m., I will have my lap top with me for any further confirmation from the site.

Old Coastie, ParrotHD is correct, there are lots of motels & eats at that location. However, I don't know if you get the $34 room as in Altamont which is 11 miles further south of Effingham on I-57. Shumway is north of Effingham on Rt 33.

I just spoke to my chief in Altamont, the last report he received was that Chief Warrant Officer 2 Christopher B. Donaldson will be arriving in St. Louis around 4 - 4:30pm on Tuesday afternoon. Altamont is about 1hr to 1hr 15mins from St. Louis which would probably put the escort around 6pm or later possibly, I have notified Rose and I will try to keep things updated on this the best I can. Thanks

John I also want to welcome you back and thank you for what you did...

I would see all of you on Monday but I got the bike tore apart for some maintenance and some of the parts won't be here till Tuesday, but she will be ready for Friday.. If I remember correctly Effingham is 3 1/2 hours from Geneseo, IL so I should be pulling in at 9:00 a.m. to report for duty... It's a sad but respectful thing we do and I'm proud to be part of it..

Altamont.  As mentioned earlier, LEO is concerned about interstate traffic.

The City of Effingham has the route following US 40 to US 45 through the downtown and then to the funeral home on the northside.

Sorry Ed--Rose,

Due to change of plans of escort on Monday, will have to cancel out. Tuesday is already a committment. Will see about Friday.
F.Y.I.,
I researched the area for hotels, close to Shumway is 5-6 miles; Effingham and all rates are in the 60's, even with PGR. Perhaps someone higher up in PGR can get the group a better rate. The rate in Altamont was $32 to PGR and that is 10 miles south of Shumway.
