Sgt Vanek, you are so deeply appreciated. You are our hero, and we will not forget you. Rest easy now, in the loving presence of our Lord; your selfless mission here is completed.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice in defending and protecting our freedoms. As a nation we mourn your loss, and we will remember you always as a true American hero. To the family, I offer my prayers and support. I understand a little of what you are going through-my son, a Marine LCpl, was killed in Iraq. I pray wonderful memories of your dear warrior help eventually to ease the pain you endure today. Your hero will never be forgotten-he leaves a legacy of honor and courage that few will ever achieve. To all,

Saturday I had honor to be at the Dupage Airport for Sgt Vanek. I was so amazed at the turn out we had....thanks to all who attended. What really touched my heart was the participation of so many LEO's from every suburb in the area. Glen what a great idea to do the "missing rider" formation in honor of our fallen hero. The last part of the escort when we turned down St. Charles road looking ahead there was a hook and ladder in front of York high school (where Joe attended)
and the ladder was extended over St. Charles road and hanging from there was an American flag along with several residents holding flags....that really got to me.After the escort was over I went and started to thank as many LEOS as I could...the last one I thanked looked at me and replied "thanks for your existance".... I needed to share this with you.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Sgt. Joe Vanek , Thanks for being our hero. At times like this there is no words that can ease the pain of a mother and family that loses a son. God Bless. And God Bless, The fellow soldier that stands for us everyday.

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, soldier.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime.
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord.
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, soldier
you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets;
you’ve done your time in Hell."

I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of this American Hero who stood tall for his homeland in this very sad time in your lives, but remember that you knew a hero first hand while the rest of us just get to hear about their heroic deeds. My prayers are that our GOD may bring peace and comfort to all of you during this tragic time. Please know that not just me , but a country full of people like me owe you a dept that can never be repaid. But please know that your loved one is now serving in the Army of our LORD in heaven, and the LORD said if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and recieve you unto myself that where I am there you may be also. Know that it says in the Bible in 2nd Corinthians 5:8 , we are confident I say , willing rather to be absent from the body and present with the LORD. No one can ever say that your loved one isn't a HERO, they were willing to serve that the rest of us may enjoy the freedom we do today, and the sacrifice you and your family have endured so our nation can remain the home of the free because of the brave. We are all brothers and sisters in arms and we don't forget one of our own, rest in peace my fellow American, your mission is complete and now it's time for you to rest. May GOD Bless each and everyone of you.

To Joe's family & friends...May the spirit that united us today as we honored Joe bring you peace and strength as you go through this most difficult time.  As your pain eases may you again experience the love and laughter and joy that Joe brought into your lives.  There are no words to express the gratitude I have for the sacrifice that he made and for the ones that you will make as you go forward with your lives without him.  Godspeed to all of you.

As the song says so well…
“I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men(and women) who died,
who gave that right to me.”

Thank you to an American hero!
