Don't think of him as gone away...
his journey's just begun;
life holds so many facets...
this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
that we could know, today,
how nothing but our sadness

(Navy LT John F. Kennedy, Asst. SECNAV Franklin Roosevelt and recently LCDR Gerald R. Ford)--now respectfully offered to honor this shipmate of ours.
Hopefully it's a comfort to family and friends to see how many "unknown" "strangers" fall in to render honors. Soon after 9/11 we Americans got another example of the huge number of our unknown shipmates--when the German ship Lutjens drew alongside our USS Winston Churchill (DDG-81), respectfully flew our flag at half mast and exhibited a sign, "We support you."
"Like ships passing..." you family and friends of this incomparable veteran don't know most, or all, of us--but we're here with you.
"Fair winds and following seas," shipmate.

Final Inspection
The soldier stood and faced God,

We must never forget who gets the credit for the Freedoms we have, of which we should be eternally
grateful.
I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease..
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.
I heard the sound of Taps one night,
