GySgt Murkerson, Jr, I know you are now walking with all our fallen warriors who have gone before you, including my Marine, also killed in Al Anbar Province. Heaven just seems to be needing more and more heroes. Rest easy now, Herman...you are truly appreciated and you will not be forgotten here.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice in defending and protecting our freedoms. As a nation we mourn your loss, and we will remember you always as a true American hero. To the family, I offer my prayers and support. I understand a little of what you are going through-my son, a Marine LCpl, was killed in Iraq. I pray wonderful memories of your dear warrior help eventually to ease the pain you endure today. Your hero will never be forgotten-he leaves a legacy of honor and courage that few will ever achieve. God bless you. Julie Francis, Matt's Mom

To all that were able to attend the escort mission yesterday Thank you. After talking with the wife and the mother last night, they send their thanks to all that were there.

Second Part: Visitation is from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Brown's Service Funeral Home in Bessemer. Brown's is located on 4th Ave. just of Hwy 150. PGR will not be standing any flag line. Should any of you feel that you need to show support then feel free to go and show your support. The chapel service will be tonight following visitation, this is also where they will be doing any presentations.

Third Part: PGR will stage at the Winn Dixie just off I 459 at 11:00 am (there are places to eat and fuel up before departure) Briefing will be at about 11:15 am and KSU at 11:30 am. This will be for a short ride to the funeral home to meet up with the family and escort everyone to Prudes Creek Cemetery (about 30 miles west). This will be escorted.

Directions: For those coming from East or South AL take I 459 west to exit 6 and if you are coming from West AL take I 459 east to exit 6. Exit 6 is a diamond interchange (straight ramps - no loops) and that Winn Dixie is on the southwest side of the interchange. Turn right at the light by McDonald's and Winn Dixie will be on your left.

We will have flags on Sunday but as always those who have 3 X 5's bring them. There will also be water provided. Please remember to stay hydrated, use sunscreen.

Weather will be partly sunny with tempatures in the middle 80's.

Just a note for future missions, at least for those of us who are directionally challenged.  I use a navigation system and use googlemaps to determine distance and drive time but to use these tools I need a street address.  The more information the better especially if there are those coming in from out of state.

See you Sunday.  I'll be meeting up with Marco and I have TN PGR flags.

May God be with Jeromes wife, kids, parents, brothers and sisters, and everyone that has ever met him. He died the biggest HERO that he could have been. There is no bigger hero in my eyes than one that has died for mine and my families freedom and safety. He will never be forgotten. My prayers are with the entire Murkerson family.

Although I never met Jerome personally, I know he was a very loved person, I am really good friends with his brother, and I know how hard this whole thing has been for his family. I want all of the riders that will be there tomorrow to know that the family is honored to have everyone ride for Jerome. Jerome loved motorcycles, and he loved the military, so the honor of the Patriot Riders fits just perfect.
This man died doing what he loved to do, he loved the Marine Corp., he loved America and especially Alabama. He always said that as long as he was fighting over there, the enemy will not be over here to cause the American people danger.
He left behind a wife and three kids, they will never forget they day they had to bury their husband/father/brother/son, but at least there will be good things about the day, such as the Patriot Riders, the honor of the Military funeral, and knowing that he died being the hero that he was. He was a great person and a very loved person. Again since I never met him I do not know a lot about him except what I have been told, but from what I hear, there was not a person that he ever met that he did not touch their heart. He would help out anyone that needed it, I'm sure that he would give the shirt off his back to any human that needed it. Most people do not know that he gave out toys to the Iraqi children on his second tour of duty. Most men would not want to do that especially since they never know if its going to be that Iraqi child that has decided to be a sucide bomber. It is dangerous work over there, he is a braver, stronger, and much more respected man than a lot of men I know. I just hope his family can get through this without to much pain and suffering. I know it is hard for them to handle but I just want everyone to remember that he died doing exactly what he wanted to do in life, the life of a Marine is all he ever knew since he joined right after high school. There is so much more that I can say about this man, but I just want to personally thank everyone that is riding tomorrow in his memory. It means so much to his family. Thank you everyone and please be careful during the ride.

The 4-legged master and I have arrived home.  I'm sure that GySgt Murkerson rests in peace, the cemetery seems like a small piece of heaven.

And Marco, I hope you didn't get too hungry the rest of the way home, those dogs were for your Dogs!

Thank you so much, Gunny, for allowing me the honor to be present with your family and friends today.  You, as much as any Patriot who has ever been called an American, have upheld the foundation, honor, and purpose, of this Country.  Oversee the placing of the Guard in Heaven, brother, as everyone, including the Lord, knows that Gunny's run the show.  I'll be there shortly to take my place on Guard Duty.  May your family know the "Peace that passes all understanding" from our Creator.

Mission complete rest easy now GySgt H. Jerome Murkerson, Jr., your watch is over and others are taking up the watch now. To the Murkerson Family, thank you for allowing the PGR to give Jerome, the Honor that he is well deserving of.

The day started of warm and very sunny. As the riders started to gather at the staging site, I knew that it would only get hotter for us. With most riders gathered at 1050 and a heads up that they wanted to leave the funeral home at 1145, I then had to shift times at the main staging area. With the briefing done and the bikes lined up to follow the Cager, we departed for the funeral home, where the north AL folks were waiting. Everyone pulled in to the area marked for the bikers and when the time came to depart all bikers took their appointed spots at their bikes. When the police escorts were ready to leave the PGR riders moved out on que with two in front of GySgt Murkerson and then two between each family members vehicle. The rest of the bikes pulled out between the last family vehicle and friends. Our support vehicles brought up the end of the procession. Things went well for most of us but I was able to check on the lost members and then continue on.

The trip to the cemetery was nice but long. Giving me time to ask God to send his angels to watch over everyone especially the family. I had a chance to meet the wife and mother on Friday night. Brenda told me that Jerome rode a Harley and that now his father wants to get a bike and honor his son. Both Brenda and Windy told me that they send their heart felt Thank You's to all that rode to honor the memory of Jerome. Please continue to lift up the families of all our Military who are far from their loved ones and those who we have honored in the past.

Thank you to each and everyone that was able to make this mission. It is because of what you all do in honoring these fallen Heros we are free. Next time you see a Military member or a family member shake their hand and Thank them for what they do for us.

Have a Blessed Day
