17 Sep 2007 2:02 PM Alert
*******************1530 EDT UPDATE*****************

Spoke with David Hall around 1500.  They were just preparing to depart from the Natural Bridge, approximately exit 180 on I-81N, continuing on their journey to Gettysburg, PA.  They are currently traveling WITHOUT ESCORT, although a Virginia member, Mike Hahn, will attempt to meet up with them along their route.

A contingent of riders will be meeting them at the West Virginia Welcome Center on I-81N around 1730 and take them at least as far as Pennsylvania.  If anyone wishes to participate in the escort from this point, please arrive at the Welcome Center NLT 1715 to ensure you're there in time.  Our two WV Ride Captains, Gary Gaskins and Mark McCarter, should both be there close to 1730.

As was stated earlier, they will be staying overnight in the Gettysburg area, then taking a short tour of the Battlefield and Memorial tomorrow morning, leaving for Philadelphia somewhere around "noonish" (1200).  I will attempt to ascertain their overnight location and post here.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) I will be unable to post updates or be in contact via phone as I'm leaving at 0530 for wrist/elbow surgery.  If you need information or updates, please contact the Pennsylvania Ride Captain, Frank Tacey, at (215) 760-4142.

Thank you for your participation and support.
Respects,
Joe

SE PA and Central PA UPDATE 2000 EDT for Tuesday September 18th

The objective for tomorrow Tuesday September 18th is to provide an escort from Gettysburg to Philadelphia. We will change off from Region 8 to Region 6 at the Bowmansville - Service Plaza on the turnpike EB Only (MP 289.9). From there we will head East on the Turnpike to the Valley Forge Exit to pickup I 76 East. The Surekill Expy. to center city then to a place near Independence Hall. At that time the Bell, 10 Commandments and trailer will be put on display.

I Just got off the phone with David and Phyllis. I have no definite time other than the afternoon to arrive in center city. Based on this I am setting up the following Ride Plan.

SE PA Region 6
RIDERS COMING FROM NORTH, SOUTH, EAST AND SOUTHWEST OF PHILADELPHIA. MEET AT SHELL STATION/MINI-MART/CAR WASH ON RT 611 IN WILLOW GROVE, A STONE'S THROW SOUTH OF AND ACROSS FROM THE WILLOW GROVE ENTRANCE TO THE PA TURNPIKE AT 1030 HOURS. We will depart at 1100 Hours.
Since the Service Plaza is on the Eastbound side we have to go to the exit past it which is Reading exit 286 then come back east 3 miles on the Turnpike.

Weather tomorrow is 74 and sunny which should make for a great ride. For those making the ride email me at ftacey@mac.com or call me at 215-760-4142.

Ride plan for Friday will follow when I can make it up.

WV & MD PGR contingent met the Liberty Bell at the VA-WV State line. Escorted them to Gettysburg, PA; arrived about 2300 hrs. The Halls are going to enjoy the National Battle Feild today and then depart for the City of Brotherly Love in PM. If you can make the escort with the PA riders do so -- this is both a very interesting & profound event! LET FREEDOM RING!!

The Bell was safely settled into its temporary home at the Independence Hall Visitor Center across the street from Independence Hall in Philadelphia at 1830 hours.

The Halls are also safely settled in at the Radison.

Awaiting Plans in PA.

I plan to Meet at the Carlisle Interchange onto 81 South..... I will monitor the thread until Friday Morning. Is there any plans for them to stop in Carlisle area for lunch or such..

Anyone flying flags along the way or on their bikes....

Dave

The flaged bike portion I can answer right now. Yesterday we were running at the posted Speed Limit which was 65 so I would say no. Stayed tuned to this thread as I will be posting info for Friday.

I've got to agree w/Frank on the flag issue.  While many, myself included, have poles that will withstand those speeds, I've yet to find a flag that would not tatter on the ends when riding any distances at highway speed.  I would think flags should be left off your rides until/unless the procession stops outside of Charles Town, if you plan to ride all the way in.

Once we exit I-81 and get on Route 9, speeds should diminish enough to allow you to mount them there.

Frank,
Yesterday was the experience of a life time. I was very honored to be part of the escort to bring the replica Libery Bell and the Ten Commandments to the visitor's center. I was very moved to be able to actually "RING" the bell. To hear the sound of Freedom brought tear's to my eye's. You did an outstanding job in delivering the package.
Standing by for Friday's Mission.

********************* ROAD REPORT FOR TUESDAY******************

As I have said this is a very fluid Mission and the only thing that was fixed yesterday was our departure time from Willow Grove at 1100 Hours. I had three of Lutz's Heros Barbara, Chris, and George make the run west on the Turnpike to meet the Hall's went they departed Gettysburg. On the way we made a stop at the Camil service plaza to pickup Erik. We continued on West then looped back to setup camp at the Eastbound service plaza on the Turnpike just East of the 286 interchange at about 1230 Hours.

It was like a ride with four of my kids in the back seat, "are they going to be here soon" "are they going to be here soon". Soon it was all the employees at the Service Plaza joining in with the same chant since they wanted to see and touch the Bell. We didn't waste our time. We setup our beach-chairs, thanks Barbara, and did Missionary work for the PGR with our flyers and business cards in the parking lot.

When the truck arrived at 1700 Hours we had lost Chris and George who had work commitments but after fueling up the truck we headed East to Valley Forge Erik and I up front and Barbara in her cage riding tail-gunner . That was like sailing in the ocean 200 miles offshore no interruptions or delays. Soon we were on I 76 East in rush hour bumper traffic all the way to center city Philadelphia about 20 miles sometimes sitting but most of the time crawling. I thought Erik and I would be walking our bike to Philly at times. Barbara and Erik were outstanding blocking from the rear when we needed to change lanes safely. Thanks for having my 6.

We arrived at Independence Hall Visitor Center at 1830 Hours and were on site and unhitched and setup.

If anyone had the opportunity to watch the 11 PM news on Ch 6 last night you had the chance to share the high moment of the mission Dave and Phyllis Hall allowing us to ring the bell WOW, Dave also presented us with a commemorative coin.

I highly encourage all to go down to visit Dave and Phyllis outside the Independence Hall Visitor Center at 5th and Market St.

***********************Friday*****************************

Tentatively we will depart Independence Hall Visitor Center at 5th and Market St. at 1000 Hours.
