Jacob, you are so truly appreciated. Thank you for your willingness to stand for our country. You will not be forgotten.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice in defending and protecting our freedoms. As a nation we mourn your loss, and we will remember you always as a true American hero. To the family, I offer my prayers and support. I understand a little of what you are going through-my son, a Marine LCpl, was killed in Iraq. I pray wonderful memories of your dear warrior help eventually to ease the pain you endure today. Your hero will never be forgotten-he leaves a legacy of honor and courage that few will ever achieve. God bless you. Julie Francis, Matt's Mom

A Soldier's Prayer
(author unknown)

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Thank you , SSgt. Thompson, for the sacrifice you have made for our nation and for our freedoms, the future for my own children. The ultimate gift you have offered can not be surpassed. You join a special group of men and women, including our own nephew, who will forever be heroes and be remembered with honor. To the family, we will keep you in our thoughts, in our prayers. It is our hope for you that your pain will eventually be eased, and that the memories you hold of your loved one will give you strength as you move foward.

Thank you for the mission you gave to your life in protecting our freedoms, and striving to give others, theirs. The lives of you and the men and women who have gone before you are raised high, and not given in vain. I honor you, and pray that our children will learn to do the same throughout coming generations. God bless your family, and may they keep their memories alive and rejoice in the life of a hero.

Mission Report

Tuesday 14 Aug 07
A small group of seven motorcyclists met at the Mankato Airport to form a flag line for the return home of SSgt. Thompson's remains. Then we fell in behind the North Mankato Police Department escort, followed by the Mankato Fire Truck. We were followed by the Hearse and family members. We drove through Mankato, entered North Mankato going to the families home, so their son could return home one last time, before resuming his journey to the funeral home in Mankato.

Thursday 16 Aug 07
We had 33 members show up to stand on the flag lines for the visitation from 5-9pm. We formed a flag line around the Hearse when SSgt. Thompson's remains were carried into the church. We stood outside the church till 9pm. We formed a flag line around the Hearse when SSgt. Thompson's remains were loaded back into the Hearse. Then we broke the flag line for the night.

Friday 17 Aug 07
We had a total of 50 members show up during the day to stand on the flag lines for the visitation from 11am-8pm. We formed a flag line around the Hearse when SSgt Thompson's remains were carried into the church. We stood for various amounts of time according to the members schedules during the day. Some members stood on the line all day, some stood a couple hours. We formed a flag line around the Hearse when SSgt. Thompson's remains were loaded back into the Hearse. Then we broke the flag line for the night.

Saturday 18 Aug 07
We staged at 8am in the pouring rain. We had a total of 125 members show up to stand on the flag line. The Mankato Police Department met us at the West High School parking lot and escorted us to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church where we parked the scoots and cages. Then we walked the 1 1/2 blocks to St John's the Baptist Catholic Church to stand on the flag line. At 9:30am we formed a flag line around the Hearse when SSgt. Thompson's remains were carried into the church. We returned to our flag line in the pouring rain. During the time standing on the flag line, almost no one took a break, even though everyone was soaked, and cold from the constant rain. At 11:35am most of us returned to our motorcycles and the Mankato Police Department escorted us to the Calvary Cemetery in Mankato.  The funeral was supposed to end at 11:45am.  Once we arrived at the cemetery we formed a flag line around the perimeter of the funeral location. We stood in the pouring rain for another hour waiting for the procession to arrive. Those remaining behind stood on an abbreviated flag line. Then they formed a flag line around the Hearse when SSgt. Thompson's remains were loaded into the Hearse for his final trip to the cemetery. 270 people were loaded onto the buses, the rest in their vehicles and the procession started for the cemetery. Al DeKruif with the six flag bikes, and the 12 blockers lead the procession directly behind the Mankato Police Department escort. Police blocked all the major intersections with our blockers taking up position where needed and remaining there till the last vehicle had passed. The route had been published in the newspaper the day before. People from the community lined the route in the pouring rain when the first group of bikers passed by. They were still standing there when the funeral procession passed an hour later. The entire route was lined with people, and flags, paying their last respects to this fallen hero. When they arrived at the cemetery we stood on the flag line as they carried SSgt. Thompson's remains to the funeral tent. After the funeral Monica our State Captain presented the plaque to the family and returned to the newly formed flag line lining the road out of the cemetery. We stood on the flag line till the last car left, then broke and rode to the local VFW Post 950 where they served up some of the best tasting food I've ever had. Finally we were in a place where it wasn't raining and we had a chance to warm up.

I can't begin to thank all those in leadership to assisted with the execution of this mission.  You're dedication and attention to details made this mission a success.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I can't say enough for those brave souls who stood in the rain, to show honor and respect to this fallen hero. Most of us never had the opportunity to met SSgt. Jacob M. Thompson in life, but all will remember his ultimate sacrifice. Rest easy soldier, your duty is done.

Respectfully submitted,

George
