PHASE I COMPLETED:
Today BJ and I were worried that there would not be enough PGR members to even have a missing man escort. You members really surprised me with the showing of support and I thank you for this. We totaled 53 bikes with 68 riders and 1 cage for support. Members from Roseburg, Vancouver and we even had a few coasties that made the ride over the mountain. We also had 1st time mission riders. 1 rider went by and came back to ask if he could ride with us and of course we said yes, maybe a new member. Lane County Sheriff supplied us with a car to lead and 2 motorcycle riders for road-guards. The family sends along their gratitude and appreciation. The Family has requested that we have a Phase II and BJ will post on this. Again my brothers and sisters Thank You.........

I have to agree with Jim. I was blown away with the turnout for Phase I of this Mission.

The family was Very Appreciative of your showin g of Respect for Joseph and stated he would have been Awed at the site!

Phase II plan.

We will meet at 12:30 on Monday at Ray's Market in Veneta. There are 2 coffee outlets for your convienence as well as a Deli/Bakery inside Ray's.

Once we have gathered, there will be a brief (I hope) ride brief and we will head to Elmira High School (approx. 1.5 miles away) where we will await report that Joseph is on his way. A Flag Line will be formed for Honors.

Jim will have a contingency with him to escort Joseph to the services. They are meeting at a location closer to the Funeral Home and have already been briefed.

Easiest direction I can give:

Choose your favorite way to I-5 and head towards Eugene.
Take the Beltline Road exit and head WEST. Follow to the end!
Turn right on West 11th/Highway 126 (Heading West towards the Coast)
WHen you enter Veneta, Ray's is to the right at the Stop Light.
We will be under the BIG FLAG in their parking lot.

Ride safe and we will see you there.

It was with great pride that I pulled out with the Roseburg group this morning viewing 11 fine bikes and 16 it was a mighty sight going up I-5. The response from vehicles, bikers, and truckers was awesome. We are preparing for a contingency to ride on Monday from Roseburg. We will be gathering at 10:00 a.m. with ksu at 10:30 a.m. from the Chevron Station off I-5 exit 125 on Garden Valley next to Bank of America. The ride today was a direct reflection of the respect and admiration for Joseph and his family, for their sacarifces they all have made and will make in the future. We are proud to ride and stand for this fine young man. Please contact us for more information if needed. See you there.

Spc Kenny, as a nation we mourn your loss, and we will remember you always as a true American hero. We so deeply appreciate your service and sacrifice in defending and protecting our freedoms. To Joseph's family, I offer my prayers and support. I understand a little of your grief-my son was killed in Iraq last year, I pray happy memories of your dear young warrior help eventually to ease the pain you endure today. Joseph will never be forgotten-he leaves a legacy of honor and courage that few will ever achieve. God bless you. Julie Francis, Matt's Mom

My thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of Spc. Kenny during this most difficult time for them.  I want to thank all of you for coming out to the Eugene Airport yesterday to show your awesome support.  I was honored to be the pilot that brought him back home and looked over the fence and saw you all standing by as they left the ramp.  Thank you all for your service and sacrifice.  God Bless you all.

We had a large turn out for SPC Kenny and his family yesterday. My fellow PGR members never cease to amaze me with your compassion and support for our service men and women and their families. It moved me to see so many of you their. A special thanks to those who rode/drove so far. Thank you all.

Falcon20, thank you for bringing our soldier home. If at any time you have a layover in our area, I would hope that you would consider joining us. If I recall, this is not the first time you have brought our loved ones home to Oregon.

I did have an opportunity to meet some of SPC Kenny's family. It amazes me that someone who carries so much grief still thinks of others. Repeatedly, they told us to tell you, Thank you!

Bless you all,

Rick

MISSION COMPLETE

The morning was crisp and cool with a cloud covered shy as crews began setting up Elmira High School Gymnasium. Chairs were placed, the stage set up with sound system and video ability and everything double-checked to ensure all would go well for the Services. I knew in my Heart that all would run smoothly simply by remembering the construction men from Saturday. You see, as we escorted Joseph from the escort on that day we passed a construction zone. The men working on that site stopped what they were doing, turned in our direction, came to attention and placed their hard-hats over their hearts. It was that moment that reassured me that everything would go well today.

As Jim met with the funeral director and 5 other riders at West Lawn, a contingency of 29 bikes and 2 cages in Veneta at Ray’s supermarket where they were briefed and mounted u ptp move to Elmira High School. As we rounded the corner leading towards the gymnasium I spotted a very familiar figure. Q was in the middle of the road doing what he does best: Honoring the Soldier and his Family through his lens.

The bikes were staged and the members took their place with their Flags to welcome home our Hero, Spc. Joseph Paul Kenny.

As the escort approached you could hear the rumble of the engines as the Missing Man Formation came into earshot, followed by Joseph and then his family that attended him. He was carried into the gymnasium by family members, friends and a fellow Soldier that flew in to say one last good-bye.

Joe’s little sister, Sadie, was presented a bear which was passed among all members present for hugs, kisses and personal prayers. Sadie was a little shy to receive this gift, but once in her arms she held it like she would never let it go. She is a precious little girl.

It was truly an unbelievable Honor to see the respect paid to this Fallen Hero by each and everyone in attendance. The family was deeply touched by your generosity and outpouring of respect and love for their son. Thank you to each and everyone that made this mission so special for the family and friends of Spc. Joseph Paul Kenny.

Spc. Joseph P. Kenny Family:
It was truly an honor to serve as co-mission/ride caption for your son, brother, nephew, grandson and friend. I felt his spirit as I rode in the missing man slot during each phase of the escort. This young man is a True American Hero that paid the ultimate price for our freedom. I thank you for allowing the PGR Family to join in your family circle to express our sincere gratitude and express our pride for Joseph. May your pain and sadness be replaced by happy thoughts and the joy this young man bestowed up all of you.

So many thoughts going through my head as I still feel the pain of this wonderful family for their loss. Many people think we, as PGR show up, pay our humble respects to our service men and women, attempt to give some comfort to these families and friends, and then go home. Many people don’t understand that when we leave to get back into our day-to-day routine, we still carry the grief of a lost loved one with us. We continue to carry the sorrow of these kind and compassionate family members, these wonderful friends of our fallen hero’s. It’s not the work of these missions that burn us out, it is the feelings of emotional pain that we carry with us that does.

After meeting and giving a comforting hug to SPC Kenny’s fiancé, I don’t know what compelled me to again put my arm around her and hold her as a father feeling the grief of his daughter. After shaking hands with Mr. Kenny (father), I don’t know why after seeing all of the pain in his eyes, I took two steps forward, grabbed him and held him tight.

Being asked to be in the missing man formation was an honor to me. As we left the mortuary enroute to the high school for the services I concentrated on my distance from the Sheriff’s car ahead of me and Rob and Sue, the riders next to me. After the services we wanted another PGR member to participate in the missing man formation for the ride back to the mortuary. I volunteered to ride sweep with Tom. As we got onto the highway riding behind the hearse a feeling came over me. I felt like I was a protector of SPC Kenny as we rode. I know that no one will try to harm or show disrespect to my fallen brother but I’m also thinking ‘Damn right they won’t. Not on my watch.’ I am honored in any role I can to fulfill the families’ wishes. If I have a choice, I will ride sweep any time. I’ve got your back my brother.

To the family and friends of SPC Joseph Kenny, thank you for allowing us to honor your loved one and comfort you. As you know, there are many who grieve with you and appreciate your sacrifice. The PGR is not finished. If you need us for anything, please let us know.

To SGT Cotner, CAO, thank you for your service to our country and to this family.

Kickstand and BJ, thank you for organizing this special event for our members to give honor.

To those who were there physically or in spirit, thank you!

Respect,

Rick

I want to think Jim Jacobs for all his help in getting me into his families circle, so that I might pay the proper respect to my best friend. I couldn't have done it without you, thank you for all you do for our fallen heroes.

To the rest of the Patriot Guard, you have a mission of honor, and you step up to meet it no matter what. Your showing of support is really something, and his parents were impressed incredibly by it. Thank you for all you do for us.
