Odessa R/C Dick Galloway called me to say that things went well on Wednesday. Good weather and a good PGR turnout for Sgt Bacilio Cuellar.
On Friday in San Antonio, the weather cooperated again. Although it got up to 90 degrees, the forecast rains stayed away. Over 30 bikes and a couple of cages turned out to honor Sgt Cuellar.
We rode escort from the funeral home on the far north side to the Main Chapel on Ft. Sam Houston, where we formed a flag line. After the services, we formed another honor line and then led the escort through Ft. Sam to the National Cemetery. As the procession went through the fort, soldiers in uniform stopped, got out of their vehicles and saluted. Civil Service workers came out of their office and stood at the curb with flags. Soldiers in a training area stood up from their break and saluted. Golfers, ready to sink a putt, stopped and placed their hats over their hearts.
Traditional honors were conveyed at the cemetery services, including the rifle volleys, "Taps" and a bagpiper who played "Amazing Grace".
The PGR stood the flag line in spite of the heat and lack of breeze.
After the services, Lori Cuellar, Bozzy's Mom, told me that the family truly appreciates our participation and sentiments and to thank all of you.
So, on behalf of Sgt Bozzy Cuellar's family, thank you to Brad Pierce, his son Brandon (who brought the flags and water), the riders from the greater San Antonio area, Floresville, New Braunfels, San Marcos, Austin, Houston and any other part of Texas that I may have missed. You did a great job and his family and friends do appreciate it. There was a young woman who flew in from California to represent her Brother, who is still in the field. Bozzy died in his arms. She thanked us, on behalf of her Brother and their whole unit, for being there in San Antonio and Odessa to honor Bozzy.
Take care everyone and thank you once again.
