Upon learning of this opportunity to honor SPC Gilmore in Fort Hood, Texas, I made contact with Ms. Baker of the Fort Hood CAC, who in turn placed me in contact with SFC Jefferson who is serving as the CAO for the Gilmore family.

As of 0920 hours on Thursday, 24 May 2007, SPC Gilmore will be cremated and taken to Mrs. Gilmore's home of record in Alaska for interment. There will be no Memorial Service of any kind in Texas. Rather, once in Alaska (estimated to be July 2007), a memorial service with military honors will be conducted to honor SPC Gilmore and his sacrifice for America.

May this Black Knight rest in peace!? God's blessings upon those who survive him.

Thank you, Spc. Joseph A. Gilmore for your service to this Nation. It is because of Patriots such as you that I, my family, and the rest of this great Nation are able to lead the lives we do. It is the soldier that gives us freedom, not the politicians. Only two people ever died for our freedoms. One was Jesus Christ and the other was the American Soldier. The least I can do is pay homage and respect to this Hero and his family.
To the family of this American Hero: We as a Nation grieve with you in the loss of one of our Nation’s best. His adherence to “Duty to God and Country” will not be forgotten. Death is a time to rejoice in the life someone had and the lives they touched on this earth. Life is but a blink of an eye. May the Great Architect take this Hero and his family into his council, protect and heal them.

You don't have to love war, but you do have to love the Warrior!

The sound of 200 people holding flags -- is deafening.

A Soldier's Prayer
(author unknown)

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
