************************URGENT MISSION NOTICE************************
***********************POSSIBLE SHORT NOTICE MISSION******************
***********************MISSION CONFIRMATION**************************

I just got off of the phone with the sister of SPC Daniel Mehringer. She is speaking for her mother, who understandably is having difficulty dealing with issues right now. We DO HAVE A CONFIRMED MISSION for the funeral services on Monday. I will post times, staging locations and directions by the end of the day. We will be providing honor guard services outside of the church, before, during and after the services. There will be no procession to a cemetary.

SECOND IMPORTANT ISSUE...although we have already decided to stand down on providing escort from the airport to the funeral home on FRIDAY, the family now believes that they would like for us to be there. I will CONFIRM this within the hour. They have expressed fears because of rumours of unwanted guests, both at the airport and at the church on Monday. Hopefully, I will be able to confirm or lay to rest those rumors by the end of the day as well.

By 3:30 PM today, (Thursday) I will post another notice confirming SHORT NOTICE MISSION to the Morgantown Municipal Airport, tomorrow at 1:00 PM. I advised the family that they needed to make this decision ASAP, as we would not be able to get many participants on any shorter notice. They promised to call back as soon as possible.

Continue to watch the thread, especially later this afternoon, and tomorrow morning for more info as it becomes available.

***************************MISSION UPDATE***************************
*************************STAND DOWN ON ESCORT FROM AIRPORT*********

First let me say that I sincerely apologize for the confusion surrounding this mission. The family has been through a lot and is understandably very upset. This has made it somewhat hard to pin down their wishes as far as PGR participation is concerned. However, following are FIRM plans.

First, the WV State Police are going to handle any issues with unwanted visitors at the airport tomorrow. We are standing down on that part of the mission. This will not change.

Second, we will be providing honor guard services at the funeral on Monday morning. The only visitation scheduled is from 9:30 to 11:30, just prior to the funeral services. Funeral is at 11:30. There will be no procession to the cemetary, so we will not be providing escort services.

The staging area will be at the University Town Center, located just off of the I-79 Star City Exit. This is exit 155, which is the last exit in WV going north, or the first exit if you are coming south. Coming south, turn left off of the exit. IF you are headed north, bear to the right. Turn RIGHT at the first stoplight. Proceed past several restaurants, to the top of the hill. We will be staging in the shopping center parking lot, to the left of the access road, just before WalMart.

We will begin staging at 8:30, with kickstands up at 9:00.

There is a Shoney's near the staging area. I will be there at approximately 7:45 if anyone would like to meet for breakfast. To get to the Shoney's, after getting off of I-79, go through three lights. Proceed up the hill. Shoney's is half way up the hill, on the left.

I will post more later, with motel info etc.

Again, I apologize for the amount of confusion.

I checked around the Morgantown area for motel availabilities and, due to this being the home of WVU, the motels are filling fast for this busy weekend. The least expensive deal I found is an Econolodge a few miles from the site of our mission. If You tell them you are from Patriot Guard Riders, they have offered to lower from normal $69.00 to $58.50. The other motels range in price from $68.00 and up and do not negiate price much due to the university located here. Some do offer free wireless hotspots if you carry a laptop. The Econolodge I spoke of is at (304)296-8774 and is located just a few miles from the mission site. If you have trouble getting the promised rates or need assistance looking for other motels, email at bosnmate820@ussrich.org or call me at (304)366-6296 and I will try to assist you. Weather forcasts call for highs in mid 70's and lows in the low to mid 40's with partly cloudy skies. Our nights are still chilly here but bearable. Keep in mind WV is a helmet law state and is enforced. Drive safe! This is a RWB area if you have trouble with your ride, call me for help.

******************************MISSIONCOMPLETE***********************************

The weather started out cold for riders this morning, as low as 33 degrees in some places. We met for breakfast at the local Shoney's, then went to the staging area, at the University Towne Centre. We had 20 brothers and sisters from WV, PA and NY in attendance. Some left as early as 2:00 this morning to get here. We are thankful for their participation. We may have picked up a few new members today as well.

We were escorted to the church by the Morgantown Police Dept. There we met with several top brass from the 82nd Airborne division and the Pentagon, who all expressed their appreciation for our services. The governor of the great State of West Virginia was also in attendance. There was additional support from the Monongalia County Sheriff's Dept. WV State Police and Morgantown Police Dept. Luckily there were no unwanted visitors.

We met Daniel's widow during the visitation services, and presented her with the PGR plaque. She was very emotional. We were also privileged to meet Daniel's mother and father. No matter how many of these I do, I'll never get used to seeing the grief on the faces of the family of those we are there to honor. Daniel and his wife had been married for less than a year when he died, and they were together for only six months before he shipped out. What a great sacrifice by not only Daniel, but his wife, parents and the rest of his family and friends.

We were honored to be a part of the services. Thank you again to all who posted condolences or participated in the services. Pictures of the mission will be posted later today and tomorrow.

RIP Spc. Daniel F. Mehringer.

   Arrived home, safely, around 1600.

As Daniel's family and friends paid their final respects for another American Hero, all of West Virginia joined in by lowering their flags to half-staff on the orders of Gov. Manchin.  A fitting tribute to another young soldier taken from us much too soon.

Another very good job, Barry, on a most difficult mission.  As always, the PGR adapted and successfully paid Daniel the Honor and Respect he earned.

My sincere "Thank You" to all attendees today.  The participation of our PA brothers and sisters is ALWAYS appreciated as was the stopover by Dave and his wife (NY RC) on their way to the BRP.  Thank you, too, is also given to our WV members who travelled such great distances on this very cold morning to stand for Daniel and his family.  Although this mission was somewhat slow in getting information out to our membership, it was quite apparent that our attendance was very much appreciated by all.

May you rest in everlasting peace Daniel.  You may assume your position among the angels in Heaven.  God Speed.

Respects,
Joe
