I have been informed that all services for Sgt. Maj. Ellis will be located at Arlington National Cemetery. The land where Heroes lay. I will forward information to the ANC PGR Brothers for contact of this CAO to offer our services. I have directed him to view our web site, and refer the condolences to the family. I have been contacted by his peers who thought a great deal of this man. He has touched many Marine lives, and now has touched ours. There will be no services in Ohio.

My world has changed forever today, for I have heard of Sgt Major Joe Ellis's death. I served in the Marines from 1994-1998. Joe was Staff Sergeant Ellis to me then since that was the last time I saw him 1996 in Salem, Ohio. He was my recruiter and he trained me for a year before I left. I always said he was the hardest and best Marine I ever met, EVER. He taught me what it was to be a Marine. Boot Camp had given me the skills but he taught me what being a Marine REALLY was all about. Sometimes throughout my military career, for I have served in Pakistan as a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force Security Forces, I would sometimes find myself in a rough spot and I would ask myself, "What would Staff Sgt Ellis do?", but then I would laugh at myself for I already knew the answer, he would get the job done and get it done right. He pushed me to perfection all the time. I didn't have the oppurtunity to serve with him once I became a Marine but it didn't matter. Anyone who has ever met him, recon, fleet, it didn't matter, Joe was a Marine for all other Marines to look up to. He was a great American, and the Marines have lost one of our best.

Sergeant Major- I still train those who go forward today, and I assure you they are ready, because I know you wouldn't accept anything less. When I meet you at the gates, have a pint ready, for we have much catching up to do. Rest in Peace Friend. ~Lincoln

I am informed that we are invited to the services at Arlington National Cemetery. Our PGR Brothers and Sisters are representing us all at this time. I know they are truly honored to be invited. I am honored that we are represented, ALL OF US, by those men and women so terribly busy at our Heroes Hallowed Ground. The place where our Heroes rest in peace. I suspect this thread will be moved to Arlington National Cemetery Confirmed.

==============================

When a mans heart is full of deceit it burns up, dies and a dark shadow falls over his soul. From the ashes of a once great man has risen a curse, a wrong that must be righted. We look to the skies for a vindicator, someone to strike fear into the black hearts of the same men who created him. The battle between good and evil has begun. Against an army of shadows comes the Dark Warrior, the purveyor of good, with a voice of silence and a mission of justice. - Steve "Sting" Borden

We as a nation mourn the loss of yet another true hero. To the family of Sgt Maj Ellis, I offer my prayers. I understand your loss; my son was killed near Al Anbar last March. I hope you take pride and comfort in the fact that Joseph was a man courageous and honorable enough to do for his country what so many will not. I hope the wonderful memories you have of Joseph will help to someday ease the pain you now endure. Know that your hero will never be forgotten by our very grateful and deeply indebted nation. God bless you. Julie Francis, Matt's Mom

Thank you for your service and sacrifice in defending and protecting our freedoms. As a nation we mourn your loss, and we will remember you always as a true American hero. To the family, I offer my prayers and support. I understand a little of what you are going through-my son, a Marine LCpl, was killed in Iraq. I pray wonderful memories of your dear warrior help eventually to ease the pain you endure today. Your hero will never be forgotten-he leaves a legacy of honor and courage that few will ever achieve. God bless you. Julie Francis, Matt's Mom

SGT Maj Joseph J Ellis, Ashland, OH, was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery on 21 Feb by his family and a large group of dedicated Marines. Nine Patriot Guard Riders joined in the mission.

We were honored by his immediate family thanking each member of the Patriot Guard Riders. A number of Marine officers made a point of letting us know the positive effect the Patriot Guard Riders' group has throughout the Corps.

We had the special privilege of having one of Sgt Ellis' personal friends and Patriot Guard Rider join us in remembering this American Hero.
