May the road rise up to greet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,

Thanks Kat,
Your offer is very much appreciated. By chance do you have any contacts or leverage with the NAB LCRK Security / DOD Police ?  On Saturday, Hollmon-Brown will transport MCPO to the NAB LCRK Chapel (Gate 5 is being renovated so Gate 3 is the primary enterence for now).  My concern is focused on NAB  Base access for non DOD stickered bikes & vehicles....

Normally, the Security Dept wants a "LIST."  I'm sure some folks might not be able to determine participation until Saturday, 07/29 (been there, done that!).  I'm coming up with some "alternative ideas" and will suggest them if I need too.   BTW,  In the Regional / VA Forum Topic Thread: I've started a thread on MCPO logistics & Support...  if you have any ideas for that..  please feel free to post them.

I know you'll be heading for AZ real soon for your husbands,  "welcome back to the world reunion."  Pass all of our regards and thank him, for all of us, for his service.  And most of all, for both of you, pleas be safe....

To Master Chief Carl Brashear,
Although you may never read this personally I somehow feel you will still know about it, I never had the chance to actually meet you, but I was on duty the day you came through my base. My crew and I serviced the plane you was flying on, One of the gentlemen in our operations center knew you personally and told me of the story of the adversity that you faced as your plane proceeded down the runway past our office. I knew then that I missed a great chance to meet one of our true American heros. Later he showed me pictures of you and him and I could then see the struggles that you made and the Honor, Integrety, Determination in your eyes. I have based my life on the courage, integrety, honor, that you showed us and that no matter what your color, poverty level, or background, you do not have to let adversity get the best of you, but, how to use it so you can get the best of it. Since that day you have always been one of my HEROS, I have many times in my struggles with pain and limitations because of health, supporting a family always looked back at that day I learned of you and used it to help me to find my own way past adversity through your life. In 2000 when your film came out I learned even more about you, things that I did not even know, Now I am not claiming to be any where near the kind of person you are, but you have helped me to be a better man and the person I am today.
My god bless you and your family, you have my condolences and prayors.

Master Chief Carl Bradshear, atten utt, You Master Chief are hearby releived of duty, for now you can rest in peace knowing that those of us that you have taught will stand for you.
You may now enter my plane which will carry you on silver wings to slip the bonds of earth and deliver you unto the house of the lord, our God, and take your seat with him.

Mark Hutchens "Sarge"
U.S.A.F. 1977-1980
P.S. I will not be able to make it to honor you, but I will be there in spirit,

FROM: Hospital Corpsman First Class (AW) D. E. Lee USN (RET)
TO: Master Chief Petty officer (DV) Carl Brashear USN (RET)
Subj: Letter of Appreciation

A letter of appreciation is awarded to Master Diver C. Brashear USN (RET) for actions set forth in the following citation.

During a long career, Master Chief Petty Officer Brashear, endured not only adversity of normal life but also the sting of racism and bigotry. Perservering against all who would rather see the African American "stay in the ward room and galley", Master Chief Brashear unknowingly paved the way for equality with in a Navy that resisted change.

Facing daily persecution for his belief that any man, regardless of color of skin could accell, Master Chief Brashear, stayed the course towards his goals and graduated obtaining the coveted designator of deep sea diver.

Later in his career, a tragic accident seemed to curtail his objective of becoming a Navy Master Diver, a very prestigious designation, carrying responsibility and the ultimate trust in a senior enlisted man or woman.

Master Chief Brashear at that point, with one leg amputated partially, failed to surrender. Instead, he took on the system again. He proved once again that determination can over come bias, this time bias based on physical ability or percieved lack there of.

Because of Master Chief Brashear's victories and examples of perserverance and steadfastness, many doors were open to minorities. Having served with fine men and women in my twenty years, I can say that his efforts allowed me , a white person to serve alongside some of the greatest this country has to offer. I've never even noticed the color of their skin, as Master chief Brashear wanted it.

Master chief not only upheld the highest standards of the navy and reflected great credit upon himself and the Naval services, he wrote them!! For a job well done and life fiilled with examples of all that is honorable, I offer this small token of my appreciation.

Fair winds and following seas Master Diver. The watch is set ship mate, your time to rest is upon you. You will be missed, the Navy and this country owe you more than we can ever pay.

Signed,

Dennis Edward Lee

We've gone onbase a couple of times here in AZ and the biggest thing to stress to all is the required safety gear. Helmet, full fingered gloves, long sleeves, eye protection, over the ankle boots, and reflective vest. The vest was even waived if they went straight to and from the services. But all this depends on base security.

Good luck. Someone leave their passenger pegs down for me as I will be riding along in spirit. Truly wish this mission was close enough to partake in.

Thank you, Woody, I'll be sure to pass your sentiments to my husband.

Unfortunately, all my contacts with NABLC have since transferred or retired... but I'll be on that base later this afternoon and can stop by Security to ask questions/clarification if you wish. Let me know.

Do you plan an entrance to base in parade formation or a rally point on base? Are you looking for what to do about getting unstickered bikes (stragglers) onto base? I just want be clear what answers you are seeking so I make sure I ask the right questions of Security. Do you know if the funeral home has contacted Base Security with these same concerns? I don't want to step on their toes if they are already trying to address these concerns on behalf of the family.

**I will be caging it Friday night since I've already sent all my riding gear to AZ.
Regrettably, Saturday's attendance is questionable for me... I was supposed to fly out that morning but am trying to see if I can change my flight.
