The owner of Java Java, located at 836 East River Drive in Davenport, has once again offered the use of his parking lot for an initial QCA rally point. Dates/times are TBA.

Also, anyone wanting or needing a place to stay our home will be open. We have an extra room, plenty of floor space, room for a couple tents in the back yard and plenty of garage space for bikes. Aledo, IL is approx. 30 miles south/southwest of Davenport. We will be attending all phases of this mission.

Ride safe,

Preach

My brother Greg and I are working on the Princeton to Aledo part of the escort mission for Petty Officer Tharp. Ed Mueller (wescoot2) is working on the first part from Ohare to Princeton. We will use the truck stop at Exit 56 and I80 at the north edge of princeton for staging. This will also be the place where the Tharp family will first see the hearse and the flag draped casket. Please be aware that the utmost repsect and dignity must be upheld as we bring these things together. You all did a wonderful job of assisting with this for Mrs Rovinski, and we are being asked to do this for Mrs Tharp and her family also.

There is no definite schedule for the escort yet. Details are still in the early stages and as before, may change at the last second. All I can ask is that you watch this thread and stay connected. We will have a staging area for the escort at Dixon, Il for anyone that wants to gather there on the way to Princeton. As always times will be posted when we get them. Right now it looks tentatively like Tuesday afternoon/evening which would mean another late night return for many of us.

Please keep the Tharp family in your thoughts. Another great American hero has gathered at the gates. He will be welcomed there by the finest and the best. We will see that his family is comforted and we will show them the respect that Jerry earned.

As you go throught his ordeal, know that Jerry was there for a purpose. His death., while very painful to us all, served a purpose. He was part of an effort to bring stability, democracy and civility to a people long repressed. The majority of the Iraqi people are indeed saddened, as we all are at his loss.

As a retired Hospital Corpsman of the finest Navy world wide, I offer the family my love and support in these darkest of days. If there is any thing that I may be able to do, please let me know personally.

As a shipmate, I offer this: " All hands attention on deck, maintain silence about the ship. bo'swain, Prepare to strike two bells, side boys prepare to honor a ship mate going ashore. Bo'swain, strike two bells Petty Officer First Class , United States Navy Active duty, departing. Bugler sound taps".

FAIR WINDS AND FOLLOWING SEAS SHIP MATE . WE SHALL NOT FORGET. SeaBees "CAN DO" .

My sincerest heart felt condolences to the family and friends and his Battalion. I am with you always in my heart.

Our prayers go out to the family and friends of this American Hero. Rest in peace my Seabee brother.

WHAT IS A SEABEE ?
Between a soldier and a Marine there stands an individual called a SeaBee.
SeaBees come in assorted sizes, shapes, and weights, but all have the same code, to enjoy every second of every hour of every day, whether at work or at play, and to protest by griping (their most beloved privilege) when issued an order.
SeaBees are found everywhere. On top of, inside of, climbing on, swinging from, running around, or more likely than not, turning to.
Mothers and sweethearts love them, fathers are proud of them, brothers look up to them, sisters admire them, airedales hate them, Company Commanders tolerate them, and Chief Petty Officers drive them.
A SeaBee is a composite. He has the appetite of a horse, the digestion of a sword swallower, the energy of a pocket-sized atomic bomb, the curiosity of a cat, the lungs of a dictator, the imagination of Paul Bunyan, the slyness of a violin, the enthusiasm of a firecracker, and the spirit of a fighting cock.
He likes: liberty, leave, holidays, weekends, girls, chow, beer, movies, gedunks, swimming, pin-ups, sleep, and comic books.
He isn't too hot for: duty nights, watches, taps, reveille, routine discipline, officers, drills, or secured heads.
Nobody else is so early to rise without actually wanting to get up. No other person gets so much fun out of liberty or shore patrol. No one can have so much fun on so little money.
A SeaBee is a magical creature. You can chew him out, but you can't get the work done without him. He is dirty, unpolished, unkempt, often over-bearing, and sometimes reluctant.
A SeaBee is a man of magical abilities. He can weld, build, drive, repair, and fight. He can wreck, or he can beautify. Work never scares him, nor does he ever seem to tire of it.
His motto is "Can Do", to which he has added "Has Done" and "Did". This frequently miraculous occurrence is recognized in the form of a "Well Done" by everyone from the Commanding Officer on down.
The average SeaBee is a thick-headed individual of a variety of nationalities. He won't admit it to anyone anywhere, except in the defense of his corps, that his job is the best in the Navy.
Without him, the Fleet would have nothing to gripe about, Marines would have nothing to talk about, and history would have nothing to write about.
