Cruizer,

Would it be possible to form up a group here in Augusta for the trip south? Would like to head down in a group if at all possible. Just pick a spot and a time, I'll be there.

Thanks Bongo and you too Sargie for mentioning the idea of forming a group up in Augusta. Here is the plan then and anyone who wishes to join us for the ride to Portland is welcome. Lets all meet at the Civic Center at say 9am. We'll roll at 9:15. Meet at the main parking lot. I'll get there a few minutes early, so look for a short/fat guy on a black bike.
I'm guessing Swaybar and Pushboats will join us. Drop me an email so I'll know how many to expect at the Civic Center. Lets see, me, Bongo, Sargie, Swaybar, Pushboats, and Mainer makes six thus far. Anybody else?

INFO.....INFO.....INFO

Hi Everyone, Cruizer here.

We have been asked to provide an escort from the Cathedral to the cemetery.  I know as of yesterday a decision had not yet been made.  It now has.

I have taken the liberty of piecing together some MISSION maps.  Please download and print yourself a copy if you desire.  I will not have copies for everybody the day of the mission in that   I do not have saddlebags on my scooter and my storage capacity is limited. :-(

Thanks for being patient, more info is coming.

INFO.....INFO.....INFO

Friday is going to be a long day.  First we stage at Hannaford's in the morning and head over to the funeral home at 11:30.  Family arrives there at 12:30.  We depart the funeral home at 13:45.  Services begin at 2:00pm, will end around 3:00 pm I'm guessing.  Then we ride to the cemetery for services there.

Please be sure to bring something to eat and drink.  Although there are plenty of places to get something to eat and drink at the staging area, your choices are limited at the funeral home and at the Cathedral.  Just down the street from the funeral home is a Dunkin Donuts....walking distance.

I have not been to the cemetery, so no idea about what might be available in that area.

I know that in addition to my first aid kit, I'll carry a bottle or two of water and maybe a sandwich that I'll pick up at Hannafords.

Oh, and don't forget to bring your flags. ;-)

Cruizer...what about us coming from the west and down 495? Which Hannaford's is this? In order for me to get on 295 I would have to go NORTH on 495 to get onto 295 South! That would be an additional 15 minutes or so. Please provide a street address and town for this Hannaford Store. Thanks.

The Hannaford's physical address is 295 Forest Ave, Portland

Cruizer has supplied directions from exit 7 which is the easiest Rt, But alternately:

It's just off Route 302-coming from the West take left before you go under 295 overpass.

You can even take the Westbrook exit go Down Rt 25 (Brighton Ave), then when almost to 295 take a left on Bedford ST. Then a right on Preble and the Hannaford will be on the right. Exit 6a and 6b on 295 will also put you there.

It is almost directly across Deering Oaks Park on the north side of 295

To the Family and Friends of Capt. Damon,

My sincerest heartfelt condolences go out to all of you in this difficult time.  Capt. Damon epitomizes the ideal that I wished that every American held true to their heart..."Service above Self."  May you all gain strength in the knowledge that his sacrifice has earned him the highest regard amongst all that are true patriots.  His service to his country will neither go unnoticed nor be forgotten.  God bless all of you and Capt. Damon...may he rest in peace.

FINAL ITINERARY

STAGING AREA

Arrive at staging area no later than 11:00am Friday morning.
Pre-ride briefing will take place at 11:10am
Kickstand up for ride to funeral home 11:30am

FUNERAL HOME

Park and form up at main entrance to funeral home with flags and banners.
12:30 family arrives.
1:45pm funeral procession departs for Cathedral

CATHEDRAL

Park and form up at main entrance with flags and banners.
Memorial services begin at 2:00pm.
At the conclusion of the memorial services, we will leave and escort the
funeral procession to the cemetery.

At the conclusion of the cemetery services, we will all depart and regroup
at the staging area. Because will will not have an escort from the cemetery
to the staging area, there is a good chance that we'll get seperated at
intersections.  This is why I'm calling for a re-group at the staging area so members can once again meet up with fellow riders for the trip home.

Please review the posts in this thread.
Consider bringing something to drink and eat for yourself.
Be sure to download and print yourself a copy of the maps I've included below.
Ride safe and don't forget your flags. See you tomorrow.
