It is with the utmost respect that I offer my condolences to the family of a true American Hero. Brock, may you rest in the knowledge that your duty was well done and you have the gratitude of an entire nation for your sacrifice and your service. I know that you will now be in the company of your fellow veterans who have gone before you and who will welcome you at the Gates upon your arrival. Stand down now and know that we will carry on your legacy of freedom for all our citizens. To your family and friends I ask that God comfort them now in their time of despair and remain with them as they adjust to their loss.

The thanks of millions yet to be”.

i'm very sorry to learn that SGT Chavers was killed. I listened to comments made about sgt Chavers by his teachers, his coach community. The words of a song came to my mind at that time, ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG. He died for a cause he believed in. He fought the good fight and now rests from his labors for which he will richly be rewarded by his father in heaven. Our prayers are with his family and many friends.

How do you say thank you to a family like the Chavers family? Where do you find the words?
What do you say to a family who has given so much more than their share?
There are Blue Star banners for families who have a member serving. Sometimes the Star is changed to Gold and that symbolizes that their loved one has left their all on the field of battle.
There are banners with two Blue Stars and sometimes a Blue and a Gold Star.
Loice Chavers' banner would have one Gold Star and four Blue Stars. Yes...four.
You see, when SGT Brock H Chavers paid it all on the field of battle in Afghanistan, two of his brothers were there with him. Yes...two. His bride also serves. His younger brother is in AIT.
With so many serving, how many birthdays have been missed? How many Thanksgivings have been on Tuesday? How many hours of sleep has SGT Chavers' mother lost over the past few months?
Brock Chavers knew what he was doing when he signed his name and raised his right hand. We were already at war and he was not the first one in his family to do so. He signed anyway.
He signed anyway.
My heart hurts because Brock Henry Chavers, Sr will be forever 25 years old. He won't see Brock, Jr start - and finish - school. He won't go to a basketball game in his alma mater's brand new building. He won't see his grandchildren born, He won't grow old with his bride. Brock Chavers knew this could happen...but he signed anyway.
How do you comfort a family whose young hero is forever 25, even as they lay him to rest on what should have been his 26th birthday?
As I sit here searching for words I don't think will come, I am reminded of the closing scene of Saving Private Ryan. In that scene, an elderly Ryan is at the grave of Captain Miller in Normandy. Tearfully, he asks his wife to tell him he is a good man and that he had lived a good life...that he was worthy of the sacrifices made for him. I hope that I will be found worthy of the sacrifices made for me by American Heroes like Brock H Chavers.
What do you say to the Chavers family? How do you repay them? How do you even make payments on a debt so huge?
I don't have the answer. All we can do is be there on Wednesday and on Saturday and on any day they need us...and remember that Brock Henry Chavers signed anyway. Rest in Peace, Soldier. And thank you.

We all know the sacrifices that our soldiers make. SGT. Brock H. Chavers has made those sacrifices so that our world will be a better place. He made those sacrifices without any reservations. Now his friends and family must also make many sacrifices.

I am truly sorry for the pain that this family is going through. Please find some measure of comfort knowing that SGT. Brock H. Chavers will always be remembered as a true American Hero.

America is the greatest, most powerful nation in our world. The success of our nation can be contributed to two things. The compassion found in the hearts of America’s citizens and the unselfish conviction to doing what is right by America’s soldiers. An American soldier sets the bar for being compassionate, dedicated, professional, and sincere in doing his duty. There are three things that are important to American soldiers. Honor, sacrifice, and remembrance. SGT. Brock H. Chavers, you have exemplified honor with your actions, you have made the ultimate sacrifice for your nation, and you will always be remembered as a shining example of America’s best.

SGT. Brock H. Chavers, your war is over. You have fought a gallant battle. You have made a difference in the future of our nation and in our world. Rest easy my combat brother. Rest in peace.

Gene Altman
GA Pointman

A person is not judged a Hero by the way he died-rather by the way he lived.

The price of freedom is visible at any Veteran's Hospital.

If you want to salute, or cover your heart with your hand, or just stand silently holding the flag, it's your choice. The only thing I request is that you do it in a respectful manner. I am a combat veteran. I served my country. I led young men and boys face to face in combat with their enemy. I also am a disabled veteran. War related. I have certainly earned the right to salute in a respectful manner but my salute is no more important than any nonveteran standing in our flag line. My love for America and my respect for our fallen warriors is no more or no less important than anyone else that comes to our PGR mission. I have fought for my country and I will continue to fight for the rights of every person that stands in our flag line.

Georgia PGR.... PART OF IT- PROUD OF IT!

If it's truly not about us, then it doesn't matter what logo we wear on our backs as long as we honor our warriors in a respectful manner.
If it takes a village to raise a child, then it should take the nation to honor it's warriors.
