| Reading these threads it appears that some members are upset, confused or dismayed by the time constraints that Barbaralee and Jamie are under. Please remember that the PGR are escorts for Barbarlee and Jamie and the “The Famous Monday Flag”. Even though the State SC’s (RC’s and members) are staging some pretty fantastic outings for the event, some things are put aside for a very good reason. Those that are not present with Barbaralee are not privy to what’s going on in the background, such as calls from Washington, DC, CNN, USA Today, State Capitols and so on. And then there is the autographing of posters. Barbaralee will not let anyone go without if their standing there wanting a copy. This takes time and a lot of it. For instance, we completely missed the Alabama State Capitol, two Senators and the Governor of Alabama because we we’re behind schedule and had to make 3 other events. After talking to Barbaralee at length a little while ago, I learned that she is down right tired, worn out and beat to death. Not by the mission, but by her emotions as well as the loss of sleep. If anyone is confused or upset, please call Snap and discuss it with him rather than posting it here. Thank you for understanding that it's Barbaralee time! Dinky Dau |

MO to OK leg June 25
Planned departure time tomorrow is 0800.
It's about 2 hours from St. Louis to Rolla - 1000 hrs I's about 2 hours from Rolla to Springfield - 1200 hrs It's about 1 1/2 hour from Springfield to Joplin - 1330 hrs
Everyone
needs to do their math and plan accordingly. Please be advised that all
times are tentative. I would add an hour, and possibly two, to the
times noted above.
I do not know at this time, if any stops are
planned, other than fuel. I would suggest watching this thread for
continued updates.
Hand off to the "Oklahoma Riders of the Patriot Guard" will be at Cycle Connection Parking lot in Joplin. It
is located just south of I-44 at exit 6. You will see their sign
towering over the trees from either direction as you approach the exit.
Many thanks to the riders planning to support the Patriot Express as it travels through the Great State of Missouri.

Thanks for those words. She is a woman with a mission but this mission is hard on her emotions. When she found out that we were behind she didn't want to stop to eat. We were forced to make her stop. We had to tell her it was for safety reasons and that we needed to refuel anyways. It worked out well, the half hour stop gave her a chance to relax and get out of the heat and it recharged her batteries so to speak. Also the states up ahead if you can get some honey and lemon for her it will be a big help. You will notice that she starts to lose her voice and she usually takes this at home. I know she would appreciate it.

I just want to remind you what was announced at the Ritz-Carlton before the reception for the Illinois-Missouri transfer:
"What goes on at the Ritz-Carlton, stays at the Ritz-Carlton"
The following pictures were taken today during the flag transfer between IL and MO.
We met at the Burger King across from the Gateway Racetrack in Granite City, IL. It was the big day for the races and we all needed tickets. I'm not sure of how they worked getting us in but thanks to the "GO ARMY" race team that made it happen. The number of bikes allowed in was limited and we had to double up. She gave a speech and I saw that she didn't want to let go of the microphone. Later at the hotel, she confessed to me that she was SHY. Jamie vouched for so it must be true. Heck, I'm shy.
BarbraLee seemed in deep thought at the arch.
I was handed the cell phone and got to speak with Rick Monday. I told him how we were enjoying the company and how I was overseas 30 years ago in a "news blackout". I was proud of his courage to save the flag back then. I told him I had heard him on the "Hanity" show with his guest host while at work. I jumped out of my seat to listen close because I knew that I would be meeting the escort the following day. He then had to close and do some pre-recordings.
I left with 5 of the autographed posters to present to our troops farewell send off scheduled for Sunday afternoon in Bloomington, IL.

So far California has received no details on what we are expected to do once the Monday party and the PGR arrive here. I've heard the flag gets delivered to the stadium on 7/3. I saw here it's 7/4!! If at all possible, would anyone who is involved in the planning of this - SNAP!! - please let us know what we can expect!! I have members and Joe Giglio, who is trying to plan this, clamoring for information!

I received this throught a personal email today and wanted to share it and give a little bit more of an explanation so that you all know what happened and what to expect.
Dinky: I thought the whole purpose of this ride was to get the Iraqi flag to Dodgers stadium. I think that many riders feel as if they have been thrown aside on this one Dinky and I (as an SC) felt like I wasted (and I did) 8 hours waiting around for nothing to happen. This was a poorly planned out mission with two many chiefs and when all was said and done........the riders that sat for hours and had to go home without a mission....were left out.
The Iraqi flag is on its way. It's the one we fly every time we stop. The mission was planned correctly, but you can't plan in the 1000s of calls that she receives, a lot in bad areas with no cell phone reception which means she has to wait until she gets to a good reception area and then try and make the return the call. Then their is the media who has been late and other factors like weather. Keep in mind that Robert (Road Name "The Capper) is also taking messages in the chase vehicle for her to return as well as Jamie). I stated in my last email that I'm sure that the AL ST GOV and SEN's feel the same way but I'm sure they understood. My riders standing on the steps for 3 hours (not counting riding time to and from) felt the same way until I explained it to them in a thread. This is not an easy mission and we did not figure in the State GOV's calling her all the time. And Sen. Fritz office, the one that has the vote on the flag at the end of the month is on the phone with her all the time. Not to mention the White House Press Staff and Pres. Sec. Then there has been the weather that is going to slow their 660 miles their traveling today. They didn't get in until after 11:00 p.m. last night and are leaving this morning at 4:00 a.m. As for the flag, it will make it there by the 1st. They have 6 days left. It's a tough mission and we new that from the start. But one problem is that the states that haven't seen Barbaralee are not reading all the threads or they would have known that the schedule is subject to change without notice at any time. Her mission is to get the Flag to CA by 1 July. There was 3 days factored in for problems becasue the actual date she has to have it there is the 4th of July. Her second mission is getting PGR noticed and she has been very successful at that, unbelievably successful at that. Her third mission is a song for PGR which all proceeds will be donated to PGR. Hope this helps explain a little bit more about the mission and how it's being operated. To all the riders that have supported this mission, know that I'm indebted to you for ever. I was on leave and in LA when the saving of the flag happened and this mission really means something to me. Thanks for all that you have done or have tried to do. For those that got bypassed, I apoligize and your have my regrets. I'm sure that it was necessary. If your going to the Gathering of the Guard, see me and identify yourself and your particular mission and I have something for you for your time and dedication to this mission. For those riders that have yet to begin the mission, please read all the threads from the first until you get to this one, then every post after this one. Please have patience and have a PLAN A and a PLAN B in case PLAN A doesn't work out. Thanks for trying to understand that this is an importan mission and we WILL ACCOMPLISH IT. Dinky Dau |

To echo Dinky's post and add a little. From what I understand Barbarbalee was just going to have the PGR relay the Flag to Ca. and pick it up there. She then decided "What the heck" and chose to accompany it. Then she was going to just ride in her cage. That didn't last long as she was talked into riding on the back of the bikes, and her brother joined her. They have been on the bikes almost constantly since leaving Fl. Now bear in mind they have never been on bike before, and her brother has some back problems, but they are sticking it out. They have already been in all type of weather and when I was with them, you can see it's taking a toll on them, the long days are also getting to them, but they are sticking it out.
Now for the delays/change in routes. When someone comes up to her, she is one that can't say no. She will stay and talk to you and will not leave anyone out. If you sit and talk with her as she tells stories of her stops, you will realize this is in her heart and not some publicity stunt. While she was in Illinois and we were getting her something to eat she related a story of one of the hospitals she stopped at. She went into the room of one of the patients with the '76 Flag, started talking to him and asked if he wanted to hold it. Now remember this Flag has very seldom been out of it's protective case. It was taken out and handed to him. He was holding it for a while, then Mrs. Monday said she saw his hands starting to shake and he started crying. Mrs. Monday getting worried asked him "Whats the matter?" He replied to her "Mrs. Monday I have shrapnel in my hands and a piece is starting to come out and I don't want to bleed on the Flag" Now I can't tell it as good as her, but believe me we were all in tears.
Best advise I can give it try to be at the hand off points as the routes can and will change. If I had gone to where I was going to meet-up I would have missed them due to a change in plans, and I know others in Illinois missed her because of the change. So please don't be upset if you have to wait or the route gets changed, I had to wait 4 hours and didn't get to go as far as I wanted, but I would not have missed it for the world. |

Amen Captain Morgan. I was also sitting at that table and the tears were flowing, this mission is so emotional and it's taking a toll on the two of them as they do this everyday. After that meal we went to the VA Hospital in Danville and yes, Barbaralee and Jamie sit and talk with each and everyone. They are truly interested in plight of the people that have put themselves on the line, people that have served our country. Please be patient while on this mission, be flexible, the timeframe and pace is being set by the heros that they encounter along the way. Those of you that come in contact with this mission will see what we mean. Always carry a hankie.

Guys, As I read through this thread I am amazed. who would have thought that a simple mission to transport a commemorative flag from Florida to California would have evolved into a mission that has touched so many service members lives. But unfortunately when this happens we complicate the mission signifigantly. Snap I would like to personally voice my support and gratitude for all that you have done logistically to make this a reality. Like battle plans that change the second that the enemy is engaged you with the help of some very understanding members have been able to adapt and overcome the obstacles placed in front of you.
Reading the stories of time spent visiting with the troops and our ailing veterans seems to make it all worth while for every ones sacrifice. Thanks to each and everyone of you who have made this mission a success so far and those that will continue the tradition on as BarbraLee and the Flag make it across the rest of the greatest country on the face of God's green earth.

Amen, IndyHarley - well-put my Brother.
Frustrations can be tough to deal with - stepping a few steps backwards and seeing the entire picture from a distance often reveals the secrest to deal with frustration.
From beginning to end, regardless of the miles ridden in acompanying this Mission, few or many, or maybe none, the PGR is as united in this joyous Mission and honor as we are in protecting the Patriot families from the U.G.'s - I commend EVERYONE for this unity.
Doc
The following pics are what this is all about -- Barbaralee at the VA in Indy and sometimes things do not always work out as planned - when you look at the second photo, you might see the 1976 "Monday" Flag slipping in it's container - but you can also see Heather Fench Henry, former MS. America from KY. Take a few steps back and look!!!! |

I missed this mission due to mechanical difficulties and I wish I hadn't. The previous threads are saying everything. Remember why we do what we do. Remember why this mission is so important not only to the Monday Family and the PGR but to the citizens of this great nation. Remember that Flag Babe and Helmet Killer have never been on a ride of this magnitude and from the threads they are worn out but hanging on. When I find myself wondering why I step back and begin to remember why...
Dinky, Snap and all the SC's, no matter what anyone says you all have done a marvelous job in pulling off this feet of patriotism! My hat is off to all those that were able to ride and those that will soon ride. "Here's to us and those like us, DAMN few left!" |

One week ago today, a small group of Patriot Guard Riders waited for the Patriot Express at Andersonville National Cemetary in Georgia for the handoff and escort to the next stop. I observed Miss Barbara Lee and Jamie spend lots of time with the parents of a fallen soldier who had recently been laid to rest on this hallowed ground. I can't begin to describe how uplifting this was to observe and be a small part of. I've followed this thread and watched the momentum build as the Express moves West. Today, it travels through my ancestoral home state of Missouri and I would so love to ride with you great Missourians.
For those still downstream, hang in there and remain flexible. It's not unlike when we were in the service......the mission comes first. I guarantee you will be richly rewarded in your spirit for participating in this most noble mission. Barbara Lee and Jamie are the real deal and deserving of our patience and support. I thank God for Great Americans like them and the members of the PGR!

Hello All,
The honor of carrying this flag, which flew over the medic station where many of the PGR missions began, is larger than the personal efforts of an individual. This flag flew over the hopes of the injured as they were brought in, the flag comforted troops when the news of a lost brother or sister was passed on, this flag flew in a battle zone as proof that a country at home was proud of their service!! What an honor to be invited to relay it!! What a massive undertaking!! Snap, you are commended for taking on such a huge logistical task!!!!!!!!
That said, and it should be plenty, in true PGR fashion, it has become an improvise and overcome situation at times. How many of our missions do this? I myself have seen many missions where at the last minute a change was made. I was the lead flag bike on an unknown rote hundreds of miles from home and the police road blocks ended and I had no clue as to where to go, so I slowed down to a crawl, kept looking back for help to arrive and PRAYED;"please dear God, don't let me lead this group astray!!" Well, I was questioned on why I slowed and everyone laughed later, The pucker factor lasted long after the event. We made it safely!!
Well fellows, we are in another adapt and overcome situation!! You folks are doing a great job. Continue on in true PGR fashion. We may face some struggles, but we will over come!! I have faith that each and everyone of you involved will be proud of your efforts once your personal pucker factor subsides(LOL)!!! You are representing each and every member of the PGR, and each and every member is proud of the job you are doing!! Remember that as you post....

I wrote yesterday and requested information as to what California was supposed to do once we took possession of the flags and Barbaralee, et al. Snap, being the efficient man that he is, called me immediately. He explained what has been happening on this trip across our great nation. As the state captain of a state that is pretty large and one which has an inordinate amount of missions, I truly understand the logistical nightmare Snap has been faced with. Snap, I thank you for the work you have done on this special mission. I look forward to meeting Barbaralee. I understand, from reading this thread and from you, she is a most gracious and caring woman, a true patriot and one who stands behind those who served and are serving today. I know California will honor her for her dedication to our cause.
