Max just emailed me about this mission. Due to the distance from my home, and the fact that the Air Force has already spoken for my time Monday, I will unfortunately not be able to make this mission. This family will be in my prayers, and if there is anything else I can do from my far corner of the world, please let me know.

Ed,

Do you use cages for escorts, or prefer bikes only?

Thanks for all you do for all PGRs, so that we can do for others.

As the song says so well…

where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men(and women) who died,
who gave that right to me.”

OK............Here's an update for the ESCORT part of this Mission. Our Escort will take us from Near Ohare...........all the way into Knoxville Il..........Ruf and tuff thats a 200 mile run, one way, probably in the early to late evening time frame. I believe I have enough who have stepped up as riders, and for those who have asked, yes cages are welcome..........you never know if one of the bikes could develop a problem. I plan on making 1 refueling stop in Princeton.......GBbowman lives out in that area, I believe around exit 56 on I 80. Hopefully I can coordinate with him a Gas Station which we could use as both a staging area for those who would like to join up from there, and a place to fuel up and stretch for a very short time.......We will be running I 80 straight west to I 74 South. The Tentative date as of now is Tuesday 30 May...........No times have been established. I will post further info as it becomes available.........

Weather forecast is not favorable, make sure you have rainsuits, at this point it looks as if they will be needed.

Due to all the activities for Sunday and Monday, my time out here will be limited, but I will try and post up info ASAP.

Respects,
Ed

Sincere condolences to the family.

I'm caged, but I'd be honored to make the ride in "chase" and provide any support I can. I should be back from a trip to Central Illinois w/ an ETA of 17:00, and will proceed to the RP immediately upon arrival. If anyone has additional gear or supplies which they want to bring along, I'd be happy to carry as much as room will allow.

PLEASE! Keep us informed as to ETD from O'Hare, and give us a RP in the area.

29 May 2006 6:16 PM Alert
My last post apparently did not go through.  I'll try again.

I will be assisting Ed with the the second half of the escort for Pfc. Caleb Lufkin.  The meeting point for this transfer of escort is the Road Ranger truck stop in Princeton.  Princeton is Exit 56 on I-80. Road Ranger is just north of I-80.  Look for the 4 monster "Flags of Freedom".  One of them is in the parking lot of Road Ranger.  Premium fuel, clean restrooms, snacks, etc. are there.  We need to perform a quick (20 minutes maximum) turnaround to keep things moving for the family.  They will be having a grueling day.

If Pfc. Lufkin arrives in O'Hare as scheduled it will be about 6:45 to 7:00 PM.  Really good conditions would put the escort in Princeton 2 hours later.  I anticipate receiving a call or email when the O'Hare arrival is known.  I will post to this list just as soon as I hear the word.  This will give a 2 hour lead time for staging at Princeton.  If things go on schedule, and we know what the Department of Defense can do to a schedule, we need to be ready to roll at 9:00 to 9:30 PM.  I will post any updates that come my way.

Feel free to contact me directly as I am not sure why a few of my posts do not make it to the PGR forums.

I live in Elgin.  I run my own company.  My schedule is my own.  Availble from OHare to Princeton or beyond if necessary.  Experienced rider.  Ex-Marines move best after dark and in the rain.

Keep me posted.

It might not be the DoD fault if departure time is delayed. Forecast for Tuesday Night is T-storms. O'Hare has been experiencing delays when a heavy due is forecasted. Hope the arrival time will be in a window without delay. Even so; Ex-Navy Air can't let the Ex-Marines fly in formation alone.

Waiting for info on the RP.
Will bring the wet weather bike and the shower curtain suit.

ESCORT UPDATE..................

Currently we are expecting the flight with PCF Lufkin to arrive at Ohare approx. 6:45pm ......We will be staging up around 6pm.........location yet to be determined, but will be within 10 minutes of Ohare.......Working with the Funeral Director, we will join in the proccession behind the Police Escort.........

Weather still looks to be bleak, so arrival time may vary due to weather delays, and our ride may be hampered by that also......

Please once again, I'm asking for experienced riders who can handle some tough weather conditions, as we will be traveling at highway speeds where safe to do so.........

As soon as I get approval on our staging location, probably sometime late tomorrow morning or early afternoon, I will post it up here on the thread.......

Respects,
Ed

I would like to change my last posting to read, "... Ex-Navy-Air can not let the Marines fly alone."

I have always been informed that there is no such thing as an Ex-Marine.

My Apologies.
