My wife Robin and I would like to add our sincere condolences to the family and friends of PO3 Michael Avery, and profound gratitude to Petty Officer Avery for his service to the United States of America. At the same time we bow our heads to bid this brave American 'farewell', we will all stand a little taller, and draw inspiration from his conviction and dedication to duty, honor and country.

As I get ready to write to you, the words fall away as almost meaningless because of the pain I know you feel. I know, because I have felt that pain.

Know that you are NOT alone on this difficult path. Others are there to help you: reach out and embrace them, for they are offering not only themselves, but sharing with you that little bit of the Almighty that resides in all of us. This offering/sharing is what WILL give you the strength you will need to get thru. Trust me.

Any service related death, on or off duty, whether accident or illness, wounds received or KIA, warrant the Gold Star for the family. Don't let anyone tell you different.

I offer you my services, such as they are. If you want to talk, feel free to get in touch with me thru the PGR messaging. I WILL return your call/message. ANYTIME!

In the meantime know that my wife's and my prayers are with you.

"Mission Accomplished"

Mission Ride Report:........... September 3, 2008 Brockton MA: I would first like to thank the family of Petty Officer 3rd Class MICHAEL AVERY for inviting the Patriot Guard Riders to honor this American Hero. The day started out a little chilly but became beautiful with sunshine . By briefing time we had a total of 13 Steel Horses plus 1 cage This was more than I had expected being the middle of the week. A small detachment of 6 Steel Horses rigged with American and PGR flags went to funeral home with LEO for escort to church. From the funeral home we escorted the hearse containing P O 3 Michael Avery to the church. Where the PGR was waiting with flag line in front of church . After everyone had entered the church we took a break. A flag line was again formed at the end of the church service while the casket was removed and placed in the hearse. We then escorted P O 3 Michael Avery to Calvary Cemetery in Brockton where a flag line was formed and the Navy gave military honors. 3 man seven shot volley. After service we dismissed and mounted our Steel Horses, On behalf of the Massachusetts Patriot Guard Riders leadership I would like to thank all who attended as well as all those who expressed their condolences through our web site.Your attendance and professionalism made this mission a great success ! A special thanks to Brockton LEO and the director and staff of the Conley Funeral Home . Their assistance made this mission run smooth. To the family of Brocktons fallen Hero Petty Officer Michael Avery, I know I speak for all of the Patriot Guard Riders members who were there when I say it was our honor ........ Rest Your Oar ..Sailor
