The following poem was written by my Great-Grandmother during WWII. Three of my Great-Uncles served in the Air Corps:
Three stars I hold before me Three service stars of blue Elmer first, then our Bill, And now Jerome went too.
They are all in the Air Corps, These flying sons of mine, Wives and mothers all must wait, Until they serve their time.
They meant three loving sons to me, Though they weren’t really mine, God only loaned them to me To help them serve their time.
But home was really happy, For each loved each, you see– Til I loaned them to this our land, As God loaned them to me.
They’re safe in His keeping, He loves them just as dear, As I could ever love them, Were I to have them here.
