We have been asked to participate in the dedication ceremony for this memorial honoring our Heroes who have given their all for our Country and also for all Veterans who have served. A special "Purple Heart" Section of the memorial will have pavers dedicated to each of the Fallen from NJ. The Families that we have stood for in the past have been invited to attend. We will again have the opportunity to stand with them, support them, and honor the Ultimate Sacrifices of their loved ones. Please make sure you flag up your bikes and have your 3X5's on hand. There has been expressed intent of unwanteds attending and we want to be prepared to use our flags as a visible barrier if needed.
I will be setting up a staging area at the Garden State Plaza Shopping Center in Paramus. We will depart at 1030 hrs and head to the school. It will be great to see you all again and to ride for such a worthy cause.
Directions to Garden State Plaza: From the south---take Garden State Pkwy to Exit 161—get onto Rt 4 East and the Plaza is immediately on your right. (Farthest Northeast section of parking lot)
From New York-5 boros---take the George Washington Bridge and get onto Rt 4 West about 10 miles and follow signs for Garden State Plaza—entrance is just past Rt 17.
From NY State---Take thruway or 287 to Rt 17 South into Jersey---go about 15 miles and enter Plaza lot immediately after you cross over Rt 4.
AGAIN, WE WILL BE DEPARTING THE GARDEN STATE PLAZA SHOPPING CENTER AT 10:30AM. |

FREEDOM ISN'T FREE
I watched the flag pass by one day, It fluttered in the breeze. A young Marine saluted it, And then he stood at ease...
I looked at him in uniform So young, so tall, so proud, With hair cut square and eyes alert He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him Had fallen through the years. How many died on foreign soil How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down? How many died at sea. How many foxholes were soldiers' graves? No, freedom isn't free.
I heard the sound of Taps one night, When everything was still; I listened to the bugler play And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times That Taps had meant "Amen," When a flag had draped a coffin. Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children, Of the mothers and the wives, Of fathers, sons and husbands With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard At the bottom of the sea. Of unmarked graves in Arlington. No, freedom isn't free. |

**********************SATURDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE***********************
Just retuned from a recon of the mission area and a final meeting with the organizers. They have made amazing progress and all seems to be ready for tomorrow. The schedule hasn't changed any so all the ride itineraries look good as far as times. A few last minute thoughts:
1) It is getting to be that time of year so if anyone is caging it tomorrow, if you could bring a cooler of cold water, it would be appreciated.
2) The weather forecast is for a bunch of sunshine and temperatures around 75. Sun screen might be a good idea.
3) Finally, it will a nice day so enjoy the ride and everyone be safe. See you all tomorrow.

*************************MISSION ACCOMPLISHED*************************
Well where to start. Again, you people never cease to amaze me. Here we are, the middle day of a three day week-end with bazillions of celebrations all around us, and there you were. Ready, willing, and more than able to put aside your families, a day of rest, to come out and honor the service of our men and women of current and past wars. Absolutely stunning. And in numbers that made me proud as a new papa. First, applause to the Mt. Olive PD. More professional, nicer people you will never meet. Thanks to our ride captains, SRC Rich, Paul, Ray, and Kevin, and thanks also to Bill Hawk Connelly for again riding with us and helping to get our group from the East to the main staging area in one piece. The organizers were absolutely flabbergasted by what we did today. As I keep saying, more and more, event planners are not content to just have us stand around the perimeter silently performing our tasks. Today was another example of the PGR being one of the main actors in this dedication. You were asked to do things differently than you have ever been asked before, and what did you do? You knocked it out of the park. The sight of us all walking in to take our places in the field of flags, each of us carrying two of the ceremonial flags that were being presented to the families as I left, provided just the kind of dramatic opening demanded on a day like today. A quick note before I close. I reached out to our brothers and sisters in NY and PA for assistance with today's mission, and we got Barb Cunningham from Region 6 in PA, and another rider from Region 5. Thanks to our PA brothers and sisters for sharing our day with us. Finally, I was talking to one our riders after we finished, and he said he really supported what we did and was very appreciative of how we have the soldier's backs at home, and that this was his first mission. Upon further questioning, turns out he is deploying to Iraq in mid-June with the NJ National Guard. What a beautiful end to a perfect day. Be safe my friends. Until next time.
