| Our heart-felt condolences to the Jaenichen family and friends in the loss of Mary. Thank you for her service to this great country. Our prayers go out to God for you in this time of loss. Mary served to give us the freedom we now enjoy so much and for that she is one of the GREAT AMERICAN HEROS of the land. God bless your family and friends. Wish I could have shaken her hand and told her thank you myself. God tells us that “Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13) As Christ our Lord laid down His life for us that believe in Him for salvation, so your love one has laid down her life for us for our freedom. This act has made her a Super Hero in my heart and I thank-you deeply for this sacrifice made for our freedoms. I pray that God will now bless your lives and help you see how great a thing this is which your loved one has done. The FALLEN MILITARY MEMBER has shown this country her greatest love for country and friends |

"Eternal Father, strong to save, Whose arm hath bound the restless wave, Who biddest the mighty ocean deep Its own appointed limits keep; Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee, For those in peril on the sea."
--The Navy Hymn, played at funerals to honor Presidents (Navy LT John F. Kennedy, Asst. SECNAV Franklin Roosevelt and recently LCDR Gerald R. Ford)--now respectfully offered to honor this Shipmate, Spc. Mary Jaenichen--one of finest things we can call someone in my branch of the service.
Hopefully it's a comfort to family and friends to see the "unknown" "strangers" fall in, in cyberspace and (those who are able) in person to render honors.
Also hopefully it's a comfort that this veteran's days were spent among some good friends. An admiral's send-off speech to us once observed: "there are two things of which you can be sure when you go to war: you will be changed, you will not be the same again and, two, you will form some of the best friendships of your life."
Soon after 9/11 we Americans got another example of the huge number of our unknown shipmates--when the German ship Lutjens drew alongside our USS Winston Churchill (DDG-81), respectfully flew our flag at half mast and exhibited a sign, "We support you."
"Like ships passing..." you family and friends of this young veteran, Spc. Mary Jaenichen, probably do not know most, or maybe none, of us--but we're here with you.
"Fair winds and following seas," Shipmate Spc. Mary Jaenichen.

I heard the news yesterday and when I woke up I searched for the offical news from the DoD.
With all the faceless sympathy here I felt the need to throw a few words in. I don't think I can say yet that I appreciate your thoughts, I'm fighting the need to tell you all to cram it up your hole, but I know I'm not the only one who's had to hear of a good friends death. Many of you have probably been through the same thing.
What I mean to say is ... although right now it hurts to say. I want to thank you for your thoughts. They're angering at the moment, but thats just because I'm angry at the moment. I've been through these things before and eventually remembering that nameless, faceless people offered their condolences will ... help soothe the scars placed on my soul.
I also feel the need to mention, just incase she might be reading this. I don't envy the pain her mother is feeling. Losing your child, I'd imagine, is hard enough. Losing your child days before mothers day must be like an eternity of rubbing salt in the wound. |
