As I get ready to write to you, the words fall away as almost meaningless because of the pain I know you feel. I know, because I have felt that pain.

Know that you are NOT alone on this difficult path. Others are there to help you: reach out and embrace them, for they are offering not only themselves, but sharing with you that little bit of the Almighty that resides in all of us. This offering/sharing is what WILL give you the strength you will need to get thru. Trust me.

Any service related death, whether accident or illness, wounds received or KIA, warrant the Gold Star for the family. Don't let anyone tell you different.

I offer you my services, such as they are. If you want to talk, feel free to get in touch with me thru the PGR messaging. I WILL return your call/message. ANYTIME!

In the meantime know that my wife's and my prayers are with you.

Our heart felt condolences to the Ward family and friends in the loss of Aaron. Thank you for his service to this great country. Our prayers go out to God for you in this time of loss. Aaron served to give us the freedom we now enjoy so much and for that he is one of the GREAT AMERICAN HEROS of the land. God bless your family and friends. Wish I could have shaken his hand and told him thank you myself. God tells us that “Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13) As Christ our Lord laid down His life for us that believe in Him for salvation, so your love one has laid down his life for us for our freedom. This act has made him a Super Hero in my heart and I thank-you deeply for this sacrifice made for our freedoms. I pray that God will now bless your lives and help you see how great a thing this is which your loved one has done. The FALLEN MILITARY MEMBER has shown this country his greatest love for country and friends

As our "fat" politians debate with all these promises of getting us out of Iraq. Our young warriors without hesitation lean forward in the foxholes and give the ultimate sacrifice. My heart goes out to the family and friends of this brave patriot warrior. He is one of the true heroes and God bless him and his family.

Pfc Ward, you are so truly appreciated. I know you have been welcomed as a hero at heaven's gates, along with all our fallen warriors who have gone before you. Rest easy now Aaron, and know that you will be forever remembered here.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice in defending and protecting our freedoms. As a nation we mourn your loss, and we will remember you always as a true American hero. To the family, I offer my prayers and support. I understand a little of what you are going through-my son, a Marine LCpl, was killed in Iraq. I pray wonderful memories of your dear warrior help eventually to ease the pain you endure today. Your hero will never be forgotten-he leaves a legacy of honor and courage that few will ever achieve. My deepest sympathy to the family of PFC Aaron J Ward.  I appreciate all of his contributions to our country and may there be a special place for him in heaven. He gave his 'all' so young.   He has joined the ranks of heroes and I love him for that.  He is America's son, and I am an American.  That makes him partly my loss too. I will never forget.

It shall be an honor, to say the least, to humbly fall in with the PGR to render honors to PFC Ward.

"Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who biddest the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea."

--The Navy Hymn, played at funerals to honor Presidents
(Navy LT John F. Kennedy, Asst. SECNAV Franklin Roosevelt, recently LCDR Gerald R. Ford)--now respectfully offered to honor this shipmate of ours, PFC Aaron Ward, USMC.

Fresh out of Great Lakes Naval Training Center, a Seaman Apprentice was showing off what he learned, once piped up and said "...you know...the Marine Corps is part of the Navy..."  A nearby Marine didn't miss a beat:  "Yeah--the best part."

I don't know about that but this Navy mustang has an abiding respect for all Marines, having served with Marines in two wars, at sea and ashore, no matter how the Dept. of Defense organizes us.

Hopefully it's a comfort to family and friends to see how many "unknown" "strangers" fall in, in cyberspace and (those who are able) in person to render honors.

Also hopefully comforting, this veteran's days were spent among some good friends. An admiral's send-off speech to us once observed: "...be sure of two things when you go to war: one, you will be changed, you will not be the same again and, two, you will form some of the best friendships of your life."

Soon after 9/11 we Americans got another example of the huge number of our unknown shipmates--when the German ship Lutjens drew alongside our USS Winston Churchill (DDG-81), respectfully flew our flag at half mast and exhibited a sign, "We support you."

"Like ships passing..." you family and friends of PFC Aaron Ward don't know most, or all, of us--but we're here with you.

"Fair winds and following seas," Shipmate.
