My prayers are that our GOD may bring peace and comfort to all of you during this tragic time. Please know that not just me , but a country full of people like me owe you a debt that can never be repaid. We know that your loved one is now serving in the Army of our LORD in heaven, and the LORD said if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and recieve you unto myself that where I am there you may be also. I thank you for the sacrifice you and your family have endured so our nation can remain the home of the free because of the brave. We are all brothers and sisters in arms and we don't forget one of our own, rest in peace my comrade, your mission is complete and now it's time for you to rest. Glen Martinez, passed through Alamosa this afternoon at 12:30 pm. His wife and family escorted his remains to the funeral home in Monte Vista, Colorado. It was a little before noon when I saw a lone figure in a black cowboy hat and green jacket holding a Marine Corps flag on the corner of Main and Craft I also saw an APD lieutenant watching from across the street. Seeing the police present, I stopped and got out of my vehicle, hoping some idiot didn't start protesting the USMC flag waiver.

A small crowd gathered in respect as the procession passed. Some veterans saluted as their eyes welled up, others in the crowd stood in respect. The lone figure holding the flag was a Marine Corp widow wearing her late husbands jacket and hat, named Mary Flynn wife of Jim Flynn USMC, Jim passed away a couple of years ago and his USMC flag flew everyday and still does thanks to his widow, Robert Jackson was the APD luetenant stopping traffic, his father was also a marine, and passed away a little over a month ago. Harry Alejo is a sargeant on the ASO, he was heading up the rear of the procession. Fortunatly for the family there weren't any protesters present. Glen's widow was in full Marine Corp dress, riding passenger in the white hurst. Two Colorado State Patrol vehicles led the way. The Alamosa PD stopped traffic and accompanied the procession from the Alamosa Airport, there were several other law enforcement vehicles lending aid as well. I saw his father's stoic facial expression riding passenger in a white limousine behind the hurst. I have seen his face many times before happy to be helping at pee-wee wrestling and middle school wrestling events eventhough his son graduated in 1995. After the procession had passed Mary turned to me and thanked me for standing with her. I wasn't doing anything special, I was just a dad praying for another family and showing respect to a young life stopped way too early. Thank you for your service to our country. Thanks to everyone who has served this great country and especially to those of you who have given all. Oh by the way, I was the Army Veteran with tears in my eyes, thank you Patriot Guard

Colorado and northern New Mexico PGR, we are ready to proceed with plans for this hero. Services will take place at the high school gymnasium in Monte Vista, Colorado on Tuesday, May 13 at 10A. We will begin staging for those who can make it early, at 7A in the Alco parking lot next to Jack's market. The location is on hwy 160, west side of town, south side of the street. The first 12 riders will be directed to the Strohmeyer Funeral Home at 205 Broadway (81144)at 7:30 to arrive prior to the family and stand a flag line, then participate in the escort from there as directed. Please advise me if you wish to volunteer for the "early shift". For the balance staged, we will have our briefing at 8A, moving to the high school (or as UG's might require) shortly after. After the start of services, an escort and small line will remain behind, while we restage at the cemetary in Homelake. I know this is a workday and far from many of our homes. I also know that Sgt. Martinez is deserving of all special effort and honor we can provide in recognition of his sacrifice and that you'll make every effort as you are able. I'll bring flags. Bring more if you're can. Special thanks to Jim Van Ry and our new members and freinds in the Valley for your efforts and assistance.

Sgt Martinez, you are so truly appreciated. I know you have been welcomed as a hero at heaven's gates by all our fallen warriors who have gone before you. Rest easy now Glen, and know you will never be forgotten here.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice in defending and protecting our freedoms. As a nation we mourn your loss, and we will remember you always as a true American hero. To the family, I offer my prayers and support. I understand a little of what you are going through-my son, a Marine LCpl, was killed in Iraq. I pray wonderful memories of your dear warrior help eventually to ease the pain you endure today. Your hero will never be forgotten-he leaves a legacy of honor and courage that few will ever achieve. As I get ready to write to you, the words fall away as almost meaningless because of the pain I know you feel. I know, because I have felt that pain.

Know that you are NOT alone on this difficult path. Others are there to help you: reach out and embrace them, for they are offering not only themselves, but sharing with you that little bit of the Almighty that resides in all of us. This offering/sharing is what WILL give you the strength you will need to get thru. Trust me.

Any service related death, whether accident or illness, wounds received or KIA, warrant the Gold Star for the family. Don't let anyone tell you different.

I offer you my services, such as they are. If you want to talk, feel free to get in touch with me thru the PGR messaging. I WILL return your call/message. ANYTIME!

In the meantime know that my wife's and my prayers are with you.

My deepest sympathy to the family of  Sgt Glen E. Martinez.  I appreciate all of his contributions to our country and may there be a special place for him in heaven. He gave his 'all' so young.   He has joined the ranks of heroes and I love him for that.  He is America's son, and I am an American.  That makes him partly my loss too. I will never forget.

Thank you Patriot Guard for letting me stand in your ranks today. It was with flags waving in the strong wind that I witnessed your faithfull devotion. It is the kind of spirit and dedication that makes this country great. I looked over at all of you and thought about the sacrifice you made for that day, probably a couple of hundred dollars in gas each, meals etc.. And although it was cold and windy I never heard anyone complain or seem to be in a hurry to leave. Standing there in the gusty wind you performed your mission with grace and dignity.

People were coming up to me and thanking me, probably because they recognize me from this area. I had at least a dozen or more people thank me. One that stuck out the most was from the Uncle, Aunt and cousins of the Fallen Hero. Mr. Bird said "We truly appreciate what the Patriot Guard did today" thank you again and I was proud to stand in your ranks, I look forward to being privledged enough to stand beside you again.
